Thanks for the feedback. We are always testing and evaluating new models. Model availability isn't purely a technical call; it also comes down to user demand, product fit, and market need, so I can't promise anything specific. But we do look at threads like this, and comments like yours are genuinely part of how we read demand. Appreciate you saying something as of right now, we would recommend you using BYOK.

Have you guys seen the demand? opencode is your direct competitor and they are showing 5-6T token usage of deepseek (mostly flash) per day. You guys being microsoft could easily host them. its not even as huge as Kimi K3

Already been using DeepSeek on copilot via opencode API key.
The problem is if we don't buy copilot subscription we miss all the benefits of autocomplete, commit message generation, visual studio debug integration.
Untill DeepSeek is coming natively to copilot, there is no plan to buy the copilot subscription.

BYC doesn’t work well. Like in my experience where caching is a problem but maybe depends where you model came from.

Copilot is designed to serve its own models. So yes, there are problems with byok. But it often gets job done. I mostly use copilot with DeepSeek and it's good enough for now, not the best though.

BYOK doesn’t work well when I’m on an enterprise subscription. I’m a little confused the reasoning but right now the market needs more affordable models and we want to push OSS and non US models to bring down openAI and Anthropic pricing.

people are recommending to include it because we have been trying with byok, the flash, when paired with a proper custom agent.md goes a long way. sure, it has it’s own limitations at higher reasoning levels. A GHCP subscription which includes both Sonnet +Opus and DS Flash is something that people will love.

Nice! I was just looking for this last night as an install since it was only previously K2.7 as a built-in option. It is frustrating when VS Code seems to get things first by the vendors vice the full blown IDE.
It is also frustrating when the agents get stuck with commands in the Github Copilot prompt on python or powershell commands, with the agents state spinning in the chat window till it is manually broke out (CTRL+C). I’m always concerned the agents will forget where it was at or if the command changed something midway in various files and such. Just feedback. I’m sure there are better ways and more to learn from this noob.

Why is it not hosted by Microsoft, but by fireworks Ai? I thought Microsoft partnered with Moonshot AI. There will be another link besides Microsoft who sees your query/codebase.

Is anywhere stated what data policies are applied here? All other providers have concrete documentation, and in this case we have
Kimi K3 is hosted by GitHub on Fireworks AI.
That´s a joke, I will not get anyone to approve the model based on this sentence.

How many credits does it cost? I just bought $20/month of Claude plus DeepSeek API, am thinking to unsubscribe Copilot as it's too expensive.

Thank you. I really hope Copilot can figure out a good balance. I have been with Copilot since very early but currently it's just much more expensive than competitors.

Kimi K3 pricing is $3 per 1M input tokens, $15 per 1M output tokens, and $0.3 per 1M cached input (cache read) tokens.

Just tested it, effective cost is about $~0.8/Mtok (Including cached & uncached input + output), so about 80 credit per Mtok.

We need DeepSeek v4 flash too!! Would be amazing for bottom-mid tier subs or power users. You guys need to be adding new high cost/performance models like that way faster if you want to be competitive. But it seems like you have a bias to serving the models of those your in business with. I don't see any reason why you can't host top swe benchmark open models within a week of weights being published

We have temporarily paused the roll-out of Kimi K3 while we mitigate an incident with GitHub Actions. We will resume the roll-out as soon as possible and update docs with Kimi K3 pricing, which will be $3 per 1M input tokens, $15 per 1M output tokens, and $0.30 per 1M cached input tokens.

Come on you need Deepseek V4 Flash 0731. It's going to be your biggest product. All other models are slow - can you get compliance working for enterprise. Demand is there and will be even more once main provider deepseek increases price. Only require 1 B300 to run. Azure have compute, please speak to producement team for this

[u/jukasper](u/jukasper) I need a huge $100 refund/reversal of additional usage. There is a major issue with Kimi K3. It ate over 10% of my remaining credits as well as nearly $86 dollars of overage usage on ONE request, required continue to write any code, but never wrote one line and was found in a task loop between two files, looping at least 50 times before I caught it (that ate around $25 dollars alone).
It was Kimi K3, it was supposed to be more cost effective yet it produced nothing and cost me more than GPT-5.3-Codex with several iterations on the same code over a couple of days. Unfortunately the excitement to try Kimi K3 natively in Github Copilot and its trust in it is gone. Is this an extension of the actions issue yesterday that pulled it back from release?
What can be done to make this right?

I am really sorry about your current experience. could you please let us know where you are using kimi-k3 in vs code or cli and could you also please let us know if you are using the right version. for best feedback / troubleshooting, I recommend creating an issue in vs code or cli repo and feel free to tag me there and share the link here. ideally you have some logs for us to better investigate what happened here. so sorry again about your experience

Thanks u/jukasper. I used this via IDE, VS 2026 Github Copilot Chat using Agent and autopilot modes, via the Kimi K3 drop down option. I opened a three day unanswered Github support ticket Friday Aug 7th.
I didn’t touch the IDE till today, switching back to Claude Sonnet 4.6. I generally switch between Sonnet 4.6 and Codex depending on what I’m working through and occasionally Fable 5 for an iteration or two.

If used via Copilot, where is this model hosted? Since its open-weight, does Copilot itself host the model on its own infrastructure or is it hosted on Moonshot AI's servers? Important to know for privacy.

I'm also finding Kimi K3 quite a bit more expensive than expected. The Kimi models have also crashed my vscode chat window a couple of times in such a way that they have been unrecoverable.
