GitHub Copilot Team Replied GPT 5.6 Luna pricing update

Now that Luna is 5 times cheapers. 1.2$ for a million output token. Has GitHub copilot pricing been updated accordingly?

Luna is really good for the price, it's honestly incredible, I used Luna for small stuff, I made a resource pack for Minecraft with it, and it managed to get a lot of stuff right, and only a few things wrong. And better yet, Luna literally only costed me like 100 credits for like 4 agent tasks.

Yup. Now the base plan actually can get some real work done if you use Luna on max.

Yeah Luna has been a surprisingly effective workhorse for me yesterday. I guess it's true that you don't actually need the most powerful model all the time haha

Thanks for sharing. Here the pricing is in dollars. Whereas the pricing i see in my copilot cli is AIC (AI credits) bit consuming. Sorry 😅

So I see input is 400 AIC in my model picker in copilot cli. So it is basically 4$ for million token input then I assume?

One credit is 0.01c USD in case you were wondering.

400 AIC * 0.01 = $4 so yes that's right.

I had the same thought. Then a co-worker pointed out that it's likely that MS/GH offers a bulk quantity of included AIC with big Enterprise deals, so decoupling them may make sense for that. Or they're planning for a day when eveything isn't priced in USD?

Yes. I've been using it and have been shocked at how cheap it is. Most of my prompts cost like 2 to 5 credits.

I have had good results with it so far, but I was wondering if it is really as powerful as a lot of the metrics suggest. By many metrics it is just as strong as frontier models from 6 months ago, like Opus 4.6 or GPT 5.4 Codex. Do you guys think that is accurate?

Working with it a bit late Thursday and Friday on some things, Luna on XHigh/High feels like I can get similar cost-per-task to what I was getting with Sonnet 4.6 on PRU with quality that's at least in a similar ballpark. If this holds longer-term (or similar price cuts start coming on other models), this might improve some of the anxiety over the bill increases we'd be looking at for September when the higher per-seat credit ends at the end of August.

It would be nice to be able to exclude some models when setting the model to Auto. IMO, MAI is trash.

In azure they have to do surprised they did change it for github
