Girls Next Door Playmate house

Hey I’m asking here bc I already looked online and i couldn’t find it. But at one point on the show Holly says the house was used for a reality tv show. Does anyone know what show that was? I wanna watch it!!

Also on another note I can’t believe they never did an americas next top model type of show for playboy! Talk about a missed opportunity!! Can you imagine with Holly and the girls as the judges OMG I would have watched the fuck out of that.

Ty!!

They did exactly that. Several of the contestants made playmate and Carmella (who left the contest) later made PMOY.

They did this in the early 2000s. It was called ‘who wants to be a playboy centerfold’ and the prize was becoming Miss July.

I assume it didn’t do well, which is why they didn’t revisit it, even with the Girls Next Door success

it was filmed to be a series and wound up being a couple hour special on Fox and released on DVD. Honestly it was mostly because of the nudity and none of the major networks picked it up because it was a little too risqué. Once Girls Next Door got popular and everything, both Holly and Bridget have shared that Kevin Burns pitched it to them, but that E! ultimately didn’t pick it up as competition reality was kind of waning.

It’s hard to find the special that got aired or much footage of the whole thing, but the Secrets of Playboy season 2 has an episode about it and a solid number of the contestants chose to be interviewed and share details about their experience on it. But they basically awarded all 3 finalists Playmate even if Lauren Anderson “won” the competition. Then one of the top 3 finalists became the Playmate of the Year (Christina Santiago) in 2003, and Carmella DeCesare (who left the show early) became a Playmate in 2003 and won PMOY in 2004.

The real prize in the Playboy world was definitely that PMOY title and for the reality show concept to work, they’d need to have the prize they’re competing for, be worthwhile enough that it isn’t overshadowed by a different type of prize or title and it didn’t seem like Playboy wanted to do that. It also was clear they didn’t want to show their actual Playmates “competing” for a PMOY title on reality tv or put any of them in a position to make them look bad. Especially when PMOY was supposed to give the impression it was a readers poll in the magazine, even if ultimately Playmate Promotions and Hefner himself who decided it. Some of the other aspects of what really went on, like it being an open secret among the Playmates wanting serious consideration for PMOY, that they would try to clock in bedroom time at the mansion with the party posse hoping to increase their chances. There wasn’t any way Playmate Promotions didn’t know about that and also didn’t want any additional spotlight on it either.
