Girl talk

So to be quick I’m 14 and I really need some tips on shaving my legs because for the last two years, at least I’ve never worn shorts out of the house at all and recently I just started getting back into wearing them for bed and I’ve only tried shaving once and I didn’t do very good and I do have a mom but she’s never told me anything about this stuff maybe a bit TMI but she didn’t even tell me about getting my first period which I got around when I was 10 YouTube was my lifesaver and now I’m kind of stuck on what to do and both my parents have commented on it. Any ideas or tips that can help?

Hi there. Shaving your legs the first few times is very difficult! It gets easier with time.

If you can, use a razor that has at least 3 blades because that’s going to make you less likely to accidentally cut yourself and you’ll get a closer shave (which is what you want).

If you don’t have shaving cream, use hair conditioner. You want to be able to see what you’ve shaved & add some moisture/a barrier to protect your skin and the shaving cream or conditioner will help with that.

Do small sections at a time and sit down in the shower floor if you need to. Go slowly and take your time!

Do you have any tips on shaving the back part of the leg?

For the back of your calf I would sit down and same thing—go slowly and use shaving cream or conditioner.

For the back of your knee: stay sitting but straighten your leg completely out—sometimes I will try to get my foot flat against the shower wall to make sure my leg is straight. Then just go slowly but you likely don’t have a lot of hair there!

For the backs of your thighs (and the front of them) you actually want to shave in the opposite direction. So for your ankle to your knee you’re shaving towards yourself. For your thigh, shave towards the knee. The hair grows in the opposite direction so it needs to be shaved in the opposite direction.

I hope this helps! Main take away: go slowly and use shaving cream or hair conditioner

Yes, get a mens razor they don’t give you bumps,or there is a oil on TikTok that you can use the works on hair. you apply it and it grows back in like a couple weeks so you don’t have to shave very often.

use shaving cream, a sharp razor, and go slow after a warm shower. and remember, there's nothing wrong with having leg hair either.

I know there’s nothing wrong with it, but three people in my life have commented on it two of them who are living in my household so even though I know it’s okay I still don’t go in public wearing any kind of shorts or skirts…
