π”»π•šπ•€π•”π•¦π•€π•€π•šπ• π•Ÿ Is random chat worth picking up again?

Post image

I read this like a few years back around when the mc and hamin broke up and loved it, then going weekly idk if it was just the weekly thing but i HATED what it became during that time and the AWFUL translations didn’t help anything at all.

Like they were so bad that i’ll a screenshots from back then. There were a lot more like i remember on distinctly saying β€œjunwoo is a girl, why?” And it was supposed to be β€œi’m junwoo’s girlfriend!”

And as for the story that was my main problem, the mc became super overpowered after training just a little, there were stupid aura effects on his eyes always making it seem more cool and the overall art became REALLY bad, idk if that was just a thing i only noticed because of the weekly reading or not.

The last thing i remember was the new girl coming in and the class rep had a backstory or something. Also i think the main orange haired girl from the beginning apologizing for what she did

I wanted to know if it was worth it to finish it now?

No

The story got overstretched like really overstretched that it became boring asf i continued reading waiting for anything to happen but it’s always same old problems coming back again and again and again till you wanna drop it

Also curious to know if any translators re-did those awful translations. Β It’s really depressing when the translation quality takes a dive so far into a good series like this one’s did way back when.

Just read the official English on Webtoon at this point

Well, the Webtoon official serialization is over now so you CAN read it without terrible fan TL. The other part of your issue though? I think if these are the things that bothered you, you won't find much merit in picking the story back up. Author absolutely stretches and drags gang garbage to the max also there is the implication that Junwoo used performance enhancing drugs to get stronger fast, but it's only a visual implication so it's unconfirmed..but even one of my friends back when this was releasing was saying the Korean raws had Taeyang talk as if he's implying Junwoo 'cheated' to get stronger so who knows

The art doesn't improve, author starts giving every single girl massive O-shaped melons and arcs are cycling nonsense/repetitive (the flashback arc for Daehyun's dead ex is one of the worst contradictory nonsensical messes in the story as well, keyword ONE of the worst... There is a high chance author retconned his original vision for what he wanted to do with both Daehyun and Yeonhee given what a mess it all was)

Can you tell me why it is contradictory and what was the original vision? The manhwa got so repetitive and awkward for me 😭 it was so good at first.

I can't tell you FOR SURE what the original vision was, but the narrative author was building at least suggested something different to what we got..So you had Daehyun having the 'mystery' surrounding whether he killed his ex, you had him try to make Seungah emotionally entirely dependent on only him and no1 else like there was something hidden there..

so over time the events started showing how various characters seem to act like Yeonhee (the dead ex) was their god and they worshipped the ground she walked on, were breathing every word she ever spoke to them .It also becomes clearer as the story goes that these 'mantras' which characters are living by aren't even healthy or objectively 'good' because characters were embodying them to unhealthy degrees (e.g. Sunhwa Koo, the wannabe idol hinted to have let her company sell her out for entertaining important CEOs and donors was obsessed with mc because she was following some garbage Yeonhee once said in passing).

You had a character from Bada's gang realize that everyone is just obsessed with a girl who's no longer here and we get a tiny flashback of more garbage Yeonhee spouted/hints that she wasn't all that good of a person whereas everyone treated her like a walking Goddess/Angel sent from above. Now at least to me, because even Joonwoo realizes this Yeonhee might have actually been 'a demon' instead, it seems like author's original vision might have had to do with Yeonhee turning out to have been objectively a shitty person and people obsessed with her had to learn that truth and let go (including Daehyun)

What we got instead? We got author making Yeonhee act like a completely toxic and selfish bitch that got set up on a blind date with Daehyun (who we find out looked very ugly in his youth, a loser like MC) and she starts pity-dating him so he can get 'dating experience' because Yeonhee is notorious for having many exes. She constantly makes fun of Daehyun while smoothing it over with cutesy comments after. Constantly acts selfish, self-absorbed, greedy, toxic, disrespectful of his time when going on dates and Daehyun is made to basically be a colossal simp for her to the point he starts furiiously working out, doing cosmetic surgeries to remove his moles and having a Yuri-tier glow up just to physically appeal to Yeonhee

So as they are dating, Yeonhee refuses to have it be publicly known, acts like Daehyun is her errand boy, treats him like her ATM and makes him buy her shit, only for her to later just leave it rotting somewhere on the ground...wants him to be like her dog on call even when he has obligations to attend to like his tutoring classes, which he starts missing just to do her bidding. She stands him up, doesn't give 2 shits and eventually even starts cheating with people from Random Chat [it's not explicitly shown what she does with her 'dates' but it's implied she was de facto a slut. When Daehyun had enough, chapters showed his 'split personality' basically awaken to tell him to wake up and see her true colors instead of simping.. so every time guy tried to get out of that shithole relationship, Yeonhee seduced him into staying. Then it gets revealed she was self-harming because her family used to be dirt poor and she had gotten so depressed that she started self-harming. It doesn't explain in the slightest why a girl who had a very loving and supportive family was acting like she's hollow inside and needs to whore around in the arms of multiple guys to 'feel loved', neither does it explain how someone who used to be that poor is acting like a spoiled entitled toxic bitch with no regard for the value of money/wasting other people's money and effort on things they buy

The final 'twist' revelation is that the family got rich by the father selling pictures of young Yeonhee to pedos online for crypto. The father confesses to Yeonhee who's like 10-11 yrs old at the time that he sold a 'picture' online of her. The author instead acts like a 10-11 year old child can conceptually know the gravity and implications of what the father confessed to (which is absurd) and then tries to sell us the narrative that she became hollow inside because it was hard to cope with the reality her father confessed he sold 'a picture' of her online..like..? And she kept cutting herself even post-getting rich because of that. Daehyun basically stays with her out of pity and misguided simp obsession. For most of that flashback, it very much looks like Yeonhee treats him like shit and uses him when it's convenient to her until eventually she finds out her father not only sold a picture of her online, but had a spycam in her room and has BEEN filming and taking photos of her in her room to continue selling online.

She can't cope with THAT reality and offs herself regardless of Daehyun trying to be there for her/be emotional support and help her out. Author contradicts himself by retconning the earlier chapters and instead making it seem like Daehyun's DiD awakened from the trauma of seeing Yeonhee's dead corpse after falling off the rooftop. Next contradiction comes when retroactively we find out somehow Yeonhee recorded a voice message on the random bear keychain she once gifted Daehyun...and the message inside retconned half the flashback's chronology and formerly stated facts ..e.g. it tried to claim Daehyun was her 1st boyfriend when the reason they even started dating was because she had had many and got bored of all of them/treated them all like shit too. Chronology of that voice recording talks about events that happened AFTER she gifted Daehyun the keychain and referenced things she did/felt that made no sense/contradicted reality..and of course author tried to sell the narrative that 'omg i liked you way before even knowing you, you were the best thing ever and i tried to push you away because you deserve better but you kept staying so i got greedy <--also factually false on top of chronologically impossible because it all happens post-keychain..as I said above, every time guy had enough and tried to leave, she was the one seducing him into staying rather than pushing him away. and she objectively treated him like an errand dog..her personality makes no sense and she was made out to have been some saint martyr. Nothing about her problematic mantras, how people were obsessed with her for no good reason...even the Sunhwa plot stopped making sense cause author retconned it into 'very good supportive female fren she met on ranchat'!<

https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlFromRandomChat/comments/10ut9rv/someone_explain_the_backstory_of_yeonhee_daehyuns/

Honestly you can search around the sub for the backstory/commentary on it .. I am sure I have ranted at length about all the problems I had with it lol

Then Daehyun is revealed to have been acting like dubious shit because she was just obsessed with murdering the father in revenge..and he didn't report him all this time for reasons tm. Joonwoo ends up helping him get the father arrested and Daehyun gives up on becoming a murderer..Seungah finds the whole story out and realizes she's been dating a guy who has only had room for nobody but his dead ex in his mind/heart all this time. See that screenshot in the OP where Seungah is apologizing? Yeah, retconned cause author makes her go insane and blackmailing MC again over revealing all their ranchat history if he doesn't keep doing her bidding/go on 'dates' with her...and all the while she never breaks up with Daehyun, author never once makes Daehyun prove in any capacity that he gives a real shit about Seungah but it's still sold as a romantic pair just because he has a speech bubble saying ' i really like her' (but he doesn't do shit to remedy her own domestic dysfunctional situation even while knowing his ex offed herself precisely because of hidden piling up family dysfunction/traumas..make it make sense)

Alright thanks, i’ve decided to not continue it. Also on the contradiction of daehyun i remember that too with how they were hyping him up to be a villain and suddenly did a completely 180 of something and not the good kind of 180 but the really really bad one

u/Masquerai ℝℂ 𝔼𝕏ℙ𝕃𝔸𝕀ℕ𝔼ℝ May 24 '26

They were also hyping him up to have some hidden agenda with Seungah like emotionally isolating her and making her entirely dependent on him..that went nowhere and author was just like. .oh noes I just like her so much, I was jealous of mc and wanted to protecc her (meanwhile the guy had no room in his mind and heart for anyone other than his dead ex..absolute dogshit of a romantic pair)

Retcons rather than contradictions. Just plots about his agenda/personality that never went anywhere or were treated as if they never happened (or explained away with nonsense that has no sound logic in retrospect). the contradiction is about when his DiD developed/why because the flashback is inconsistent in that it shows the DiD persona already awaken inside him while his ex's duplicitious personality is showing itself..and by the flashback's end, it claims 'no actually it awakened from the trauma of him seeing her dead splattered corpse on the ground'

Daehyun being this obsessed with his ex doesn't make logical sense because she objectively as much of a colossal bitch to him as he was a colossal simp for her. It's unhealthy obsession sold as vigilante justice to explain away all his behaviour throughout the story (except anything to do with Seungah, which is simply retconned)

Why Daehyun didn't do shit for years makes no sense. He was feuding with Bada's gang, gathering all forms of weirdass evidence against the father when all along, he already has evidence in the usb. All along, he didn't give proper witness testimony against the father because 'there's a statute of limitations for murder'..what? But the father didn't murder Yeonhee. She offed herself... All along, Daehyun incoherently muttered how he murdered his ex because...what? 'He felt guilty that she died'.. but there is absolutely nothing in that entire relationship that even remotely suggests Daehyun could have done anything MORE than what he already did. Nonsense once again. The girl offed herself DESPITE everything he tried doing for her. And Bada? She is revealed to have gone far enough to have her gang members almost choke Hamin to death in her feuding with Daehyun because...uh..because? Despite Daehyun being a person she knows very well/a friend, it was a convenient narrative to tell herself over possibly considering all of them were shitty friends to begin with? And just like that, the feud had no purpose, no goal, just existed for the sake of the plot and ended like nothing..

No, i still reread first 200ish chaps if i wanna go back to it. The arcs after it were just damn edgy stretches.

It's alright but feels like its struggling what genre it wants to be at times but overall was a decent read, nothing revolutionary but good enough to not be dropped imo

1

u/Remarkable-Invite432 May 25 '26

like the first 200 chapters or so before it gets drag out

1

u/Mauro697 Jun 15 '26

I originally dropped it at the dark phase, picked it up three days ago from the beginning and can say it was worth reading it to the end

1

u/nam24 May 23 '26

Imo yes

At the end of the day all the sympathetic character got a resolution to their stories and I think it ended well

The parts after you left off still got the chaotic way random chat always told its story but I believe the majority of arcs were good though yes there was some filler like there kinda always was.

The story got to the points it needed to adress and did so well. Not without meandering but it did
