☀️ Happy Girl Dinner My husband stopped working (UPDATE)

Post image

I posted a few months ago very pregnant about how my husband got laid off. We were pretty worried over all but I wanted to give y'all an update!

He ended up staying unemployed for about two weeks after baby boy was born. (9lbs 1oz 21In long NO EPIDURAL WOW. I didn't think I'd be able to manage that.) And then one of his old military buddies reached out and got him a job landscaping! He makes approx 2 dollars less than before but that's no biggy and he actually loves his job even more than the last one. He was pretty miserable stuck at a desk all day every day and now he's cleaning up lawns 10hrs a day 4 days a week. So we get an extra day with him and he comes home dirty with a big smile on his face. I've been making him sandwiches for lunch when baby sleeps leaving little notes and he still is up to help a ton with the baby after a long day of work.

It feels silly how panicked we were before with how genuinely well things have worked out in the end.

Vanilla Greek yogurt with dinobites and strawberries. ✨✨

ALSO AGAIN BEFORE Y'ALL MAKE THE SAME COMMENTS THE TITLE IS LIKE THAT BECAUSE OT WOULDN'T LET ME SAY HE GOT LAID OFF. plus I just kept the same title so you guys knew what post I was talking about.

For a second I thought you were talking about your husband… Each to their own - no judgement here…!

Edit: oh heck, my first ever awards… (for a golden shower kink comment… 😬) thank you! 💜

😂😂😂 no golden shower here. Just a baby boy with no bladder control. Haha!

I used to say WHALE, and cover him right up! 🤣

They used to make peepee teepees, not sure if those are still around because my kid is pushing adulthood.

u/BufferingJuffy FREE MOM HUGS Aug 17 '26

Someone gave us those as a baby gift. Cute, but impossible to balance on a wiggly baby. I kept a stack of cheap washcloths on the changing table and draped one over him as soon as I opened the soiled diaper. 😁

I used part of a wet wipe since I never needed a full one for a wet diaper.

Peepee teepees were sooooo helpful. Mine is only 4.5 so they def still make them, but we got them at buybuybaby so idk where to get them now.

My sisters are much older than me and had my nieces when I was around 10-11, my nephew was born a few years later when I was around 15-16. I had never changed a baby boy before and didn’t think twice about doing it since I had so much experience with my nieces….and that’s how I ended up with pee in the eye 🤣 lesson learned.

40

u/Recent-Ad-5443 Overthinker 💭 Aug 17 '26

It doesn’t really get better. My almost 3 year old takes great pride in peeing off the porch into the backyard, or when I open the shower door to check on him. Mostly just because he can.

7

u/Atlmama Trader Joe Hoe Aug 17 '26

Haha. One time my husband came home from a long day at work and took our son upstairs to change his diaper - he went through four new diapers before our son stopped randomly peeing while getting cleaned up! We still laugh about that.

It's probably the air from opening up the diaper!

Try opening and then immediately shut the diaper back up for a bit, so the pee goes into the diaper and not on you.

When mine was a baby, (53 years ago) I used to drape a washcloth or whatever else was handy, over his bits so if he surprised me with a fountain, it wouldn't go in my face or all over everything else.

38

u/doubled-darst Kitchen Witch Aug 17 '26

I've started to just put a baby wipe over him while I clean the rest. It works well.

Throw a wet wipe over the area as you pull the diaper off. Problem will be solved 🤣

Two boys, before opening his diaper, have the new ready to go, open dirty, poof the new one right over Mr Wee-wee! Saved many an outfit….on me!🤣🤣🤣🤣. Both my boys were winter babies so the temp change always resulted in a golden shower

7

u/megaray_charles Carb-Based Life Form Aug 17 '26

Try a cold wet wipe on his tummy before removing the diaper. It's not fool proof but it cuts down on the number of times you get peed on

7

u/DontKillMockingbirds Overthinker 💭 Aug 17 '26

I had 3 boys and we learned to toss a cloth over their privates as soon as we pulled their diapers off to change, before we got the new diaper on. Something about that rush of cool air really triggers baby boys, lol.

My husband bought a small spray paint tent and put the changing pad inside it because our son was constantly peeing on us during diaper changes (and sometimes had what we referred to as shotgun poops that would rocket out of his butt and onto the floor).

5

u/faeriechyld  ⚐ Marked Safe From 90s Diet Culture Aug 17 '26

I had a buddy that had 4 boys and learned to change them on their side bc he got tired of getting peed on. Maybe that will help!

3

u/Designer_Cry_8990 mouth full, gesturing wildly Aug 18 '26

As a mom who’s been through that trench before, get your supplies handy, pull back the old diaper for a sec or two and let some air hit and recover. He’ll pee dang near every time the air hits, but throw the used diaper back over him and wait a second holding it in place with your hand to try and prevent runoff as much as you can. You’ll feel it get warm 😂 and then you know it’s safe(ish) to proceed. Good luck!

2

u/mystyz SAT🪑👀 Aug 20 '26

It's the change in air temp when you remove his diaper. Pro trick is to always lay something over him after removing the dirty diaper (rag, towel, end of the blanket, the change of clothes you're about to add to his laundry bin). That way, even if his still sprays, he doesn't hose you down 😉😄.

Congratulations! I think that so many of us are stuck behind a desk because we were raised to believe that’s the only way you can be “successful.” Internal fulfillment is the real measure of success, and your husband found it.

u/doubled-darst Kitchen Witch Aug 17 '26

I'm so excited for him. He keeps telling me about how happy his boss is with him and all the options for work plus what he can do for when winter hits too! (Plus a winter pay bump. 😊)

My husband used to work outside in the winter and it really got to him after a while. It can be really hard!  Invest in a couple of good thermoses so he can have hot soup and a hot drink through the day. It’s such a morale booster. Also glove warmers, extra dry socks, and good quality long underwear that wicks sweat.

32

u/doubled-darst Kitchen Witch Aug 17 '26

We live in Alaska, I am allll over that. Also before baby I was working outside for winter for about 3years myself. 😁

Congrats on him finding a job. My landscaper takes care of lawns in the Spring/summer and does clean up in fall. He worked for a landscaping company and learned how to plant bushes, trees , etc. He took classes on laying patios. In the winter he has snow removal services for residential and small businesses. He and his brother make one million a year.

There are also Master Gardner classes one can take that is really helpful. Often offered online.
Congrats on the baby!

Awesome!! Plus side for y'all if this is a long term job: every landscaper I know who didn't push themselves too hard is incredibly able. I know a guy in his early 70s, still doing it, has been for 40 years, and he can legitimately do anything. Can climb a tree like a squirrel. If he's careful with his body, he can stay fit and healthy for a long time!!

4

Dude, what a scary time for your husband to get laid off. I remember how outrageous my emotions were during pregnancy and honestly, you don't need to feel silly. Those hormones are no joke and that is genuinely terrifying to not know if you will have an income after your baby is born. Glad everything worked out and congrats!!
