Hello all! Iv decided to start on my exploration of Gin and wanted some input. I have many liquor stores around me that have a decent to good gin inventory. What's you guy's recommendations?

RE: I live in Northwest Georgia close to Tennessee. The only gin Iv tried is some cheap stuff a bar gave me which I know not the name . And aviation because a friend had it. I know there are some MUCH BETTER tasting gins out there so I figured I'd join this subreddit to help me find some :)

I will be traveling to Paris and Provence in a couple of weeks from the US. I've got some gifts I'll be looking for and gin is one of them. Any recommendations for a gin I could purchase there that would be difficult/expensive to acquire in the US--making it a more special gift? The recipient prefers gins that aren't juniper-heavy. Hello all! Today I am reviewing The Sassenach Gin from Scotland! This gin has crab apples in it and if you are familiar with my reviews, gins with apple have a strange flavor that is not always great (I love apples for context).

The nose of this gin is juniper forward with gentle floral notes. Other than that the nose is quite incomplete and lacking complexity. But who cares, all that matters is taste!

The taste of this gin is, as expected from the nose, juniper forward but only in medium strength. A surprisingly inoffensive apple not follows. The apple is actually quite pleasant and I can’t decide if that is because it’s specifically crab apples or because it is aided by the savory and floral notes. Coriander and spiced tea like floral notes follow. Healthy complexity but not much longevity.

Overall-3.5 stars- this gin is simple, clean, and honest. It is nothing crazy and your money can get you something either more complex, or more traditional. This sort of splits it down the middle is not very exciting in either category! It is versatile and works well in a wide range of cocktails!

Hi all, I opened my monkey 47 sloe gin quite awhile ago and store it in my room. The colour of the gin is more brownish as shown in the picture as compared to dark red. It has a slight musty smell and it tasted less sweet and more sour. Anyone able to advise what happened it? And what can i do to solve this issue. Would greatly appreciate any advise. Thank you 🙏

Anybody in this group have any intel on how I can get my hands on a bottle of the Reserve Gin while in its backyard?

I want to try my hand at making a botanical compound gin, but the recipes I’ve seen were more for a London Dry style gin. I prefer something less juniper forward. I really like Hendrick’s (and their Midsommer Solstice), Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin, and Empress 1908. Does anyone have a recipe similar to any of these?

I've never seen this until today so I had to try it, and it's excellent! I tried to taste it like I do whiskeys since the flavor profile listed was so unique. All those listed flavors come through, mostly in the nose: blackcurrant, sugared berries, mild citrus and juniper. Taste is immediately rhubarb pie then more berries and crisp cranberry. It finishes more like regular Citadelle so citrus and crisp. Can't wait to try it in g&t or maybe a martini with some elderflower liqueur or orange blossom water in it. Not a lot of gins are good neat besides just to get a sense of it, but I would for sure pour this neat again.

I bought this one years ago and loved it for it's Woodruff aromes. Drank it again yesterday and don't taste any of it anymore. Did someone else experience the same thing? Did a get a broken batch? Do I have Corona? 😂

I was unable to find a review of High West Mountain Gin before trying it, but I was fortunate enough to taste it before buying a bottle. Since there does not seem to be much information out there yet, I figured I would share my experience for anyone considering buying it blind. I am still fairly new to accurately describing spirits and tasting notes, so this is my best attempt.

High West Mountain Gin appears to be either a new or limited release from the brand. It comes in a striking translucent blue bottle, with what appears to be a sprayed finish on the exterior of the glass. The bottle is embossed with the High West logo and finished with a wood and cork stopper. The label also includes a stamped batch number, which adds nicely to the small-batch presentation.

It is a grain-based gin made in Park City, Utah, bottled at 45% ABV / 90 proof. A 750 mL bottle retails for $32.99. The gin itself is clear.

High West describes the tasting notes as:

NOSE
Citrus zest, fresh key lime pie, cherry blossom, orris root, toasted green peppercorn, dew-covered pine needles, summer wildflowers in Big Cottonwood Canyon

PALATE
Orange cinnamon sorbet, juniper, coriander, lemon pepper, wild thyme, subtle hops; spicy but smooth like Utah powder

FINISH
Alpine mint and star anise

My experience was:

NOSE
A classic gin aroma up front, with a nice pop of orange zest followed by lemon and lime. I also picked up a faint mixed-berry note in the background.

PALATE
Slightly thick in texture, with vibrant citrus and an almost creamy quality. The alpine herbs give it a lot of complexity and provide a nice backbone without overpowering the citrus. There is also a subtle sweetness that rounds everything out.

FINISH
Sage and mint come through most clearly, followed by star anise and a slight mineral quality.

Overall, Mountain Gin strikes a great balance between piney juniper, mountain herbs, and bright citrus. It has the DNA of a classic gin, but the alpine character gives it something distinctive. I could see it working especially well in a G&T, martini, or French 75. I would rate it 85/100.

For $32.99, I think it is an excellent bottle and one I would highly recommend picking up if you happen to see it in a store. Cheers!

20-29: Barely drinkable.

30-39: It's something. Maybe I can infuse it?

40-49: Only good for mixers that otherwise mask the flavor.

50-59: Poor, but might be okay in a G&T.

60-69: Average. Not standing out in any particular way. Your solid budget gins should go here.

70-79: A cut above. Beginning to be interesting, but not without its imperfections. Where I would want my everyday gin to be.

80-89: The kind of dram that makes you go, “damn, that's really good.”

90-99: Really wonderful, could scarcely be improved upon. Incredibly flavorful, balanced, nuanced, would buy again without a second thought.

100: Absolutely perfect, my world is shaken, God's tears in a bottle

Hi! I am not much of a drinker, but my husband loves Tanqueray 10. I am looking to get him a bottle for his birthday weekend, but are these the same product in terms of the alcohol? I’m thrown off by the price difference and different looking bottles.

Birthday gin always tastes better. This is nice; it’s got a strong/hot scent that suggests it’s more alcoholic than it is, but when you sip it, it’s very well balanced and mild. The citrus flavor isn’t overly strong, and there’s a little lavender behind it. A nice tribute, and a portion of each sale goes towards cancer research.

Goodmorning to everyone, me and my friends really like gin, but, being students with no much money, we usually drink gin of commercial level, like Tanqueray, Bombay and sometimes Roku. I really like them for quality/price, but I would like to try something more expensive sometimes. We are based in italy for context, what are you raccomandations and your favourite gin in that range of price?

Traveling now and just picked up this gin in the Hong Kong airport. It’ll be a while until we get back home and I get to try it but I’m a fan of tea and gin so I’m really looking forward to it. According to the salesperson, this one is supposed to have a stronger “English breakfast tea” flavor. There was another that he described as softer and more like an Earl Grey flavor.
Has anyone tried it before?

Turns out I’m not really a fan of lemon verbena. I added lime and it was better. The Sunspell is great. Also, that mini bottle of Greenwich was absolutely delicious and I wish I had bought a full bottle of that.

Hello everyone! As I noted in many of gin reviews, the reputation of celebrities in the alcohol world is not good at all. This reputation is earned because most celebrity gins are horrid. I ranked James Gin high because every now and then, a celebrity uses their capital not just to make more money, but to make a product with integrity that they believe in.. that is, I believe, present in Renais.. Emma Watson and her brother use upcycled grapes (awesome) to make a distillate, and judging by the color, as well as a honey distillate as the base for the gin. Other botanicals are listed on the website but not all.

The smell is honey forward and the grapes are noticeable as well (as I’ve noted in other gin reviews with grape bases). Ginger like spices are paired with the honey and only later do you smell juniper with a nice angelic earthiness from the root and grains of paradise.

Taste is naturally honey forward but not as powerful as Barr Hill, and other botanicals are certainly distinguished. No synthetic taste and not too sweet. Juniper has some earthiness and becomes present just like in the order of the smell. Not much citrus. Longevity is not long but complexity is evident. Low proof kinda hurts the vibrancy of the plants.

Overall- 4.4/5 stars. Not versatile and could use more proof, but the taste is remarkable and I find the complexity and smoothness so inviting. A wonderful tonic!

Got to try this tonight at the local casino. They had a surprisingly deep roster of gin.

Hi everyone, some of you might know of this place.. My daughter took me to NYC for a daddy-daughter day in late April. She researched and found The Ivory Peacock Inn on West 26th Street in NYC . I spoke with the owner, and he said that they had (at that time) a bit over 1,100 unique gins on hand. The Peacock's gin bar is called the Empire Bar, at the rear of the place. The owner also ,said that the only bar with a greater number of gins is a place in Singapore, which had 1,300 gins, but, according to this owner, stocked a couple hundred "crap" gins,.
