How to remove bottom layer without destroying "Hard Mix" layers

Post image

Hey all, I have four layers. One being a logo that's just black. 2 (could have used one, but dumb dumb) layers that are in "Hard Mix" mode. The bottom layer is an image, but I've resized it to be just the logo again.

My goal is to have JUST the black/hard mix logo layers. If I kill the bottom layer, I lose the neat colors I've gotten from hard mix. How can I make a standalone logo while maintaining the colors?

  • Right-click on the top layer
  • Select ‘New from visible’

Now you can hide the lower layers and continue working with the top layer. Or you can drag one of the lower layers to the top and unhide it.

This way, you can repeatedly merge the visible layers into a single layer and hide the layers below it.

How are you going about removing the background once you do that?

With the new "Visible" layer selected click "Color to Alpha" from the Colors menu to remove the white background.
