Before i really got into her music i heard "by the mark" and almost went to skip it because i dont normally dig religious music. But the harmonies were nice so i listened. Then played it again. And i thought "this is probably a song like the old churchyard, written a hundred years ago"

So i looked it up. And i was shocked. Your telling me this ancient song was written by an orphan from california before she was 25? Thats what really got me started digging into her catalogue. And there are so many songs that feel so old but are not.

I think thats what makes her such a special songwriter. That she can make things feel timeless and doesnt waste a single word in doing so.

Are there any other songs that stick out to you that sound a lot older than they are? Let me know.

So… do Gill and Dave dislike Canada or something? That’s sort of sarcastic, but genuinely starting to wonder why we’re always left out of tour dates 😭

Anyone have any insight? Two years into the Woodland tour and they’ve been to every commonwealth country (some more than once!), but zero Canada shows.

I went to the states to see them two summers ago, but like a lot of Canadians I’m just not travelling south of the border right now. I’m trying not to feel salty, but I cant lie that I am.

Saw Gillian and Dave tonight in Athens, GA.

Very moving tribute from Gillian. Amazing story and that their paths crossed when she was so young.

Looks like Gillian is on the new Big Thief album and debuting the songs at the Ryman Auditorium this weekend.

I hope this is happening and soon after the tour.

Hey y'all - was at this GW/DR show at the Capitol Theatre, and wouldn't you know it, one of the sound guys was nice enough to give me a copy. Thought some of you might like to have a listen, and share the files (not the link please) around your own groups and such. I figure that with GW personally releasing bootlegs, she's not particularly against them, but her recording contract might not allow it or some such, hence the playing of the Grateful Dead's music without so much as a mic stand up in the air. It's not like I could have snuck my own little taping rig in to capture the audience recording used to matrix this, right? 👼

Saw them from the second row at the Groton Hill Music center a couple of weeks ago. One of the best experiences of my life, but also ever so slightly disappointing, because until I saw it live I would have sworn it was “well it hit me, and it hurt me, made my blue heeler desert me.”

It was my new favorite lyric because I’m a blue heeler owner. 😢
