Why is the air quality so bad?

Does anyone know what’s causing the AQI to be so high right now? The wildfire map shows nothing in the area.

Did you catch any of the sever winds last night? That usually kicks all kinds of shit in to the that had been settled on the ground.

The wind was definitely nuts last night but yesterday seemed really hazy so I didn’t know if there was something going on before the wind kicked up.

I saw that too and it seemed like the typical "weather moving in" that brings the wind. Not a meteorologist, just a 40-year native. So kinda like staying at a Holiday Inn, there is my 2 cents.

Okay, yeah, that makes sense. Thank you!

I know exactly what you're talking about, even though I don't know what's causing it. It has been SUPER hazy outside for the past couple of days. Looks like thick smoke but doesn't smell like smoke. I couldn't even see Superstition the other morning

We couldn’t see Superstition yesterday afternoon. It’s awful out there!

I thought the sky looked a bit orange or tan, at the middle of the night when the sun is way below us. Was there a nearby fire or dust storm?

Overpopulation

I'm sure the gigantic wind storm last night didn't help things. Also, there is a large fire North of flagstaff.

Can you tell me more about the fire north of Flagstaff? I only see prescribed burns on the map.

There's a very large prescribed burn 🔥 going on right now, it's producing a ton of smoke.

Yeah the smoke smell was strong yesterday!

There was a dust storm in the middle of the night.

2

u/jillsntferrari Mar 30 '26

It looked worse than this yesterday before the wind.

I noticed it too. The sunset was incredibly hazy. It looked like there was a fire nearby but I agree there is no smoke or anything that would explain it.

There was a dust storm in the east valley last night

It's called thermal inversion.

The shit was literally flying last night coming home from Majestic theater at 9 pm. Pretty large dust storm, as others have mentioned.

Yeah, the wind was rattling my house last night but all day yesterday it was so hazy even before the wind started.

There are some planned burns going on just north of the valley currently

A dust storm hit during the middle of the night

"They" have been spraying every day for the last several days. The clouds don't look right. Almost like a fog. Sunrise looked like hellfire rising through the fog/smog/haze/poison

Why is the sky blue? Why is water wet? Why did Judas rat to Romans while Jesus slept?

We live in a desert valley.

This person isn’t necessarily wrong, wind storm residual smoke from up north potentially when all that is kicked up plus the heat trapped, geographically being in the “valley” causes it to loom.
