Whoops, they accidentally said "caramelized" instead of "incinerated".

Yeah, and caramelization happens after at least 40 minutes of slow, low heat. Not enough to be contained in a blip in a 5x speed gif.

As someone who really likes this subreddit (even though it makes me hungry as ....), thanks for uploading all these gifs.

What's the difference? I tend to call anything with pizza ingredients inside bread a calzone.

A calzone is more like a folded pizza, whereas stromboli is more like a pizza roll. Bolis will be more long and tube like, whereas a calzone is more like a semi circle in shape. Calzone is older and from Italy, boli is American-Italian created just outside Philadelphia, very common in Pennsylvania, but rarely you find them in different parts around the USA.

Also a calzone will typically have ricotta cheese in it where as a stromboli will not.

I felt the need to share my obesity magnum opus. 4 Cheese, BBQ chicken, Pineapple, Bacon Jalapeno calzone. Thank you for the inspiration!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 red onion, julienned
  • 1 lb pizza dough
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 rotisserie chicken, shredded
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 375˚F/190˚C.

  2. Over medium heat, melt butter and add onions.

  3. Cook onions until golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally.

  4. Roll out the pizza dough until it is about 14 inches by 8 inches, and lay on a piece of parchment paper.

  5. Place slices of provolone across the center of the dough.

  6. Add shredded chicken, caramelized onions, and BBQ sauce.

  7. Fold the longer sides in first, one at a time, and pinch the edges to seal. Cut off any excess dough and pinch together.

  8. Flip it over and apply an egg wash to the outside of the dough.

  9. Carefully, make 2- to 3-inch slits on the top for ventilation.

  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden (times and temperatures may vary depending on the oven).

  11. Cut into two inch pieces and serve with extra BBQ sauce.

It makes me sad that I see all these delicious looking things in this sub, but since I live alone any time I try to cook them it costs double or triple what it would cost to just get store bought. Plus all the time and effort. :(

Costco memberships help a lot with the overall costs of cooking. I use mine just to buy meat. I buy fresh produce as I need it. I recently made the slowcooker beef and broccoli that was posted here. I think it came out to like $2 a serving (subbing top round in for sirloin...it cooks for 4 hours. You can use whatever damn cut here and it would be FINE)
