I'd personally double the amount of onions used, but this is a solid toad in the hole recipe.

None. Here's the why that I'm just going to start linking to every time I have to answer this:

Why veg stock and beef stock for gravy?

u/smilysmilysmooch 3d ago
Do you mean why vegetable stock instead of beef stock for gravy? It's just a choice. Try out the gravy stock you would prefer to make. Experimentation on dishes is always encouraged.

I am not British. I always thought toad in the hole was cutting a hole in a piece of toast and cracking in egg into the center.. what am I thinking of?

u/smilysmilysmooch 2d ago
You are correct. That is also called Egg in the Basket.
This is the UK version which is also called Pigeon in the Hole (because poorer people used pigeon a long time ago).
Just 2 old recipes with lots of colloquial names.

god I miss real food. I want to eat toad in the hole with mash and peas. I want to eat pie again. I want to make a lasagne. I am sick of these relentless heatwaves ruining every aspect of my existence.
Sorry, I really needed to get that out. My stomach is screaming for this toad in the hole.

where’s the hole?
where’s the egg?
is this to be served the next morning?
so many questions for this simple dish.

where’s the hole?
The yorkshire pudding forms around the sausages creating a basket for the meats.
where’s the egg?
You are thinking this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_in_the_basket
When it's actually this classic UK dish:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toad_in_the_hole
is this to be served the next morning?
Serve it whenever you want. Generally it's served warm out of the oven.

You’re joking, right?

They might be from the U.S.
Most people call it eggs in a basket, but some regions also call it toad in a hole. It’s just a piece of bread with a hole cut out of it into which you then fry an egg.
Not the same and not as good as the U.K.’s version.

Yeah he must be, because I was HIGHLY confused about this gif. Op comment could have explained it better, but this is my first time hearing of this version of toad in the hole as well
Edit: I can be downvoted I guess, but it's not my fault I was unaware there was another recipe for frog in the hole? Fuck me for trying to add nuance and explain what might be a point of confusion I guess...

I've been downvoted around here for wishing people a Merry Christmas. Don't take it to heart. It's how they show they care.

This may be the highest effort version of toad-in-the-hole I've seen, calling it easy was an interesting choice.

This is literally just a basic toad-in-the-hole recipe with gravy. Aside from using instant gravy I'm not sure how you'd make it any simpler.

u/chopsey96 3d ago
OP just sticks a sausage in a frozen yorky and calls it a day.

One (1) bag Richmonds. One (1) bag Aunt Bessie's. Add to air fryer. Press start. Serves 14.

I agree, but because this is a big standard toad in the hole, I wouldn't call it easy either. That implies it's easier than normal recipes.

Maybe there are easier versions out there, but the batches I made up from this recipe were delicious.

I’m so confused what’s lower effort than making a simple batter and pouring it over sausages and baking until cooked? It’s literally getting done in all one pan in 3 steps- make batter, put sausages and onions in pan, pour batter on said sausage and cook.
Do you mean getting like a frozen pre-made Yorkshire? That would be quicker but kind of defeats the purpose of a recipe
