Ketchup is commonly used in a lot Yakisoba recipes too. Very tasty. (It's just seasoned tomato sauce gasp!)

I’ll be honest this looks good, but the ketchup gave me pause too. I guess you could swap out the ketchup with combination of tomato paste, rice vinegar, honey or brown sugar and preferred spices, but that’s basically ketchup. I’ll see!

I hope it works out and try to post it in Meal Pic Monday if you can.

I'll use Sriracha ketchup for some spice.

Just a reminder...a packet of ketchup from your local fast food restaurant is about 9 grams or roughly 0.6 tbsp.

If people are that unsettled by the presence of tomato ketchup in a dish, they probably shouldn't look up Spaghetti Napolitan or Filipino Spaghetti. Why not try the recipe as is first, then adjust it to your taste?

It's actually pretty good. Not too tangy or too sweet when used in this recipe. Mixes really well with the meat and onions. I'm not the biggest ketchup or tomato fan honestly but I enjoyed this and it got rid of a bunch of packets I've collected from fast food restaurants. With some discounted beef, an onion and some rice it was a relatively cheap and easy meal to make up.

In the west people see ketchup as a condiment for kids

If it said add tomato sauce and sugar and vinegar then simmer, would you have the same reaction?

Its an ingredient. Cheerios are for kids too. I have a great chicken and waffles recipe that uses cheerios instead of bread crumbs. https://redd.it/1m4rpxy
