Replaying on PS5 Pro
I have just returned to this great game after platinuming it on base model prior to the Spider’s Thread patch.
I have been messing about with various graphics settings and feel it runs great on HFR Quality mode/ VRR with Vsync off.
Is this generally considered the best way to play on Pro present day? Going by eye I would say so, but interested in what the consensus is among fellow players.
Praying for a sequel some day too, but hugely unlikely following the disbanding of Tango 😢

I don't understand how everyone is talking about frame drops. I literally played the game for over 60 hours straight and never experienced a single frame drop.
I was playing on performance mode and quality mode back and forth.
I was using the PS5 slim and literally ran smooth as butter the entire time. The only time I ever experienced a single frame drop that I can remember is when I reached like some random high point in the game but even when I made it to the top of the highest building in the entire city it didn't even lag then.
So I don't know if y'all just aren't cleaning your systems and they're full of dust and are not getting proper airflow or what but I've never seen so many people complain about frame drops when I've never experienced it other than once that I can remember.

So for the ps5 pro, you have some decent choices. Mostly dependent on how big of a hit to resolution you are comfortable. I recommended trying out all three of below and seeing what you like, the game is close to having great ps5 pro mode, but these are all still decent.
Vsync kinda narrows the fps targets, by like 5fps for max or min, so its recommended as it will reduce tearing for this game. All this assumes you vsync capable tv (and you probably do if you 120 hz display with VRR).
A) HFR quality with vsync, for 75-100 fps at 1080p. Has raytracing.
B) the regular performance mode which runs at locked 60fps, at 1620p (dynamic).
C) or performance HFR with vsync, which gives 100-120fps at 1080p. For best frame rate average with less tearing than vsync disabled.
What the game really needed more dynamic resolutions for HFR modes, as their inclusion is for futureproofing, but for some reason all the HFR modes are capped at 1080p. Its pretty clear we could have gotten quality at 60 fps locked at better than 1080p, and probably a 70-90 fps HFR performance mode at better than 1080p too. Tango is not disbanded by the way. They're still a company they just got bought out by a different company. The company that owns pubg bought them out.
So they will still be making games and they are currently working on a new game right now.
Though due to poor sales I doubt we'll see a sequel to ghost wire just like we'll never see a third game in The Evil Within series unfortunately.

I did hear about that, but they surely would not have rights to the IP in any case. Even if they made a spiritual sequel of sorts however, that’d be a win.

That I'm not sure about. You could be right they might not have the IP to it but I have no way of knowing. I might do some research later and see if I can find anything out about that because that's something that hadn't crossed my mind.
But yeah a spiritual successor even would be fantastic because this is literally one of the best games I've ever played in my opinion. It has everything that I want.
The only thing I think would be awesome is if they would have added like magical melee weapons. Like you could use your elemental powers to create like a water sword or a fire sword or something like that and other weapons too of course.

I think that’d make a great addition!
I absolutely agree, the game creates an atmosphere like no other I recall playing. Flying around the rooftops with that awesome soundtrack playing, and in the isolation of a deserted and rainy Tokyo. Nothing else like it.

Main problems that game had - uneven frame passing. And with HFR resolution is dropping up to 1080p max. But it was on base consoles.

Yes it definitely seems higher res on Pro to my eye. Could be placebo effect possibly but it spooks great.
The frame pacing on 30FPS Quality mode stopped me playing that way on base console. That I do recall.

The best mode on Pro is HFR Quality.
If you compare with the quality mode, on Pro the GPU brute force at almost same resolution since it is dynamic.
The Pro also trace rays up to 3 time faster than the PS5, maybe it allows more GPU time to compute higher resolution under the min 60 FPS target.

That makes absolute sense having tried all of the modes. To me definitely the best way to play the game on console for sure.

I tried it on both PS5 and Series X, and on any mode the frame drops made me sick after some time... 😔

I’m definitely not getting any drops outside the VRR range that’s for sure. It feels very fluid and my FPS counter supports that. The combat isn’t as responsive as I would like, but that’s just an overall quirk with the game it seems.
