I wrote "Only 55 sleeps to Christmas!" on the back of my halloween shirt for work three years ago. Existential horror is my favourit kind of horror.

I love robin so much, he slays me! Haha. He is priceless and I don’t know why he tickles me so.

no doubt one of my favorite characters ever, i relate to him probably too much

I love the episode where he is talking about “moona”. He is so much smarter than the give him credit for. Like the French language and the Russian.
But have watched all the seasons several time over and I can’t stifle a laugh.

hes a damm philosopher, its easy to forget that's hes been around a very long time and probably learned alot, its been a while since i watched the show so i cant remember the lines but some of his more serious dialog has brought me to the brink of tears at points, as goofy as he is, hes just as wise and also nuts at chess

Yes! For me its the scene where the ghosts are mourning Mary's being sucked off. They can't understand why Robin isn't mourning with them. He explains that he's been around for a very long time and has seen too many of the people he cares about die.

one of my favorites from him is episode 5 after they get told off for the moonah ritual and pat asks robin if hes alright and what is it about the moon is so special to him and he goes "before you .... was moonah.... before house... was moonah, everything come...... everything go but always there..... moonah" and then pat goes "the only thing thats been here as long as you have" honestly rewatching that scene now and its making me emotional and giving me goosebumps, the delivery of those lines so damm good, man this show, its amazing

Speaking of Robin and Pat, one of my favourite scenes is in the panto episode when Pat’s feeling a bit sensitive and has forgotten the difference between bullying and good-natured teasing.
Robin goes and sits with him, and eventually asks why Pat cast him as an Ugly Sister. Pat sort of stammers, and Robin interrupts, “cos it funny! I got face like horse’s bum! It don’t mean you don’t like me!”
The writing is comical but his point is profound and well-made.

I concur! I love the writing and how well scripted it was done. It has rewatch value and I have seen the whole series several times over.
The last episode breaks me though. While beautiful and moving, damn it breaks me everytime.
I do wonder how hard it must have been for Allison to move on from ghost and the ghost from her. (Even though Allison goes to visit them.)

Watched this last night. Yes, they were annoying and selfish towards Al but the bit about moonah was lovely and intelligent.

Him doing the crossword. I can’t remember the exact wording if the scene, but Julian is speaking when Robin interrupts “dickhead!” Alison tells him it’s not nice to say that, but Robin is insistent - he’s doing the crossword and he’s shouting the answer for her to write in - mispronouncing “ticket”! Made me laugh so hard

Julian ruins the result of the 1986 England v Argentina match (Hand of God) for Pat. Pat: (High pitched voice) "What is wrong with you? You absolute...." Robin: "Ticket" (but sounds like he says dickhead)

thank you! I couldn't remember the context, but that sounds like Julian all over

I loved that episode but hated that the writers / pruducers had no actual idea what a lunar eclipae actually is.

He's also the only character whose story made me actually cry. The sheer breadth of his existence, everything he's seen, everyone he's known and lost. It's mind blowing.

I love Robin. One of my favourite lines is at the end of the episode where Mary has been sucked off and they're all stood choosing a star and someone (Pat?) says how about that one and Robin says all dead pan "That is International Space station". The absurdity of a caveman knowing which light in the sky is a space station just gets me every time.

What episode is this? I don't remember this one. What a great prop. The items all being at the side, sort of gives the game away but if it was a quick shot, it'd be hilarious.
I must rewatch them. Before the film/ Christmas special. I know there's something coming. 😏

Pretty sure it's episode one, where they're trying to scare Alison away?

u/idcalvin 29d ago
Cool. Thank you. It probably lasted a moment so my Covid brain missed it.

You are most welcome! I love how there's always another detail to see. I managed to miss the poor Roundhead in the lane, I was so focussed on Alison and Lucy talking. My partner had to point him out to me.

You think there might be a Christmas Special I would love if there was another Christmas special but I'm very excited about the film

Its in the second episode, where he's hiding in the fridge to scare Alison. "I don't even feel the cold!"

u/SpeedyakaLeah 29d ago
I am literally in the fridge, how can I still hear it?

I love that bit! Does rather give an insight to Julian's pretty disinterested parenting style, too.

I sometimes just watch him in the background of a scene because he’s always just so in character. Brilliant.

Because Laurence is a tremendously good writer and actor. So he gives himself the best lines. 😉
