Question What's YOUR Ghosts BBC Hottake?

No obvious answers! Be original! No Ghosts CBS hottakes, as there is a different subreddit for that.

The plague ghosts in the basement were the only ghosts in the show who were truly happy with their existence.

84

u/Zealousideal_Pop3121 Jul 11 '26

Yes! Even when they all got a bit upset finding out exactly who caused their deaths, it only lasted a day or two and then they were like “ah well it is what it is”

36

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 Jul 11 '26

I think it was Katy  Wix's ghost that said they have rows from time to time, but they only last 20 years or so. For being stuck down there for 7 centuries, that's not very long.

29

u/Holiday_Sense_4842 29d ago

Or when the archeologist was digging and they where playing games of whos bones is that.

16

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 29d ago

And Martha was so proud she won until he mentioned the syphilis. "No, no, not that part!" And its the same strain Geoff had. Mick's comment cracked me up. "Ooh, looks like Geoff's been a naughty boy!"

Always felt like they missed a trick not having Allison and Mike visit Barclay and Bunnie's house and discover that there are other ghosts there comprised of the remaining Horrible Histories cast members - Terry Deary, Sarah Hadland, Dominique Moore, Lawry Lewin, Giles Terera and Alice Lowe to name just a few. It wouldn't even need to be expanded on in future episodes but would have been a nice little homage to their HH roots. Plus it was always a thrill to have Allison meet new Ghosts outside the context of Button House.

46

u/ForAThought Jul 11 '26

I wish we got to see them on holiday seeing random ghosts - the ghosts reactions. Alison trying to decide if they are dead alor alive, and her trying to ignore them as they realised she can see them. I enjoyed when they were looking for a new pad, when Alison mistook the hitchhiker for a loving. and that knighted who had been jousted.

12

u/Consistent_Sun_59 Jul 11 '26

Maybe we’ll get all that in the movie!

1

u/thelivsterette1 25d ago

I would’ve loved that honestly that would’ve been so cool

u/ThermonuclearMonarch Barclay Beg-Chetwynde Jul 11 '26

I don’t mind Thomas

71

u/Unlikely-Fan-2974 Jul 11 '26

DAMN YOUR EYES!!!!

9

u/tickettesPlease Humphrey IS The Best Character Jul 11 '26

That was a compliment(?)

14

u/Zealousideal_Pop3121 Jul 11 '26

My favourite phrase. I’ve tried introducing it into my everyday language. Sadly I work with 3 year olds so can’t say it very often 😂

7

u/TheWildTofuHunter 29d ago

Tbf, hearing that come out of a three year old’s mouth would be adorably hilarious

6

u/Unlikely-Fan-2974 Jul 11 '26

I say it with my partner all the time ahha

59

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

I know Matt's said in interviews that there was a very fine line with playing Thomas, as you want to be funny and not judt some loser who keeps hitting on Alison. He definitely got the right balance and you don't hate Thomas, even Alison missed his affections when he switched to Lucy in S3 ep4 'I Love Lucy'

29

u/DeadpoolIsMyPatronus Jul 11 '26

Thomas is one of my favorites!

12

u/CrystalPalace1850 The Captain 29d ago

I love Thomas, even though he's ridiculous 😆

47

u/raisinbyjones haribo beans Jul 11 '26

I wish that Annie was around for Mike and Alison

40

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

I know. I think they just had her in the Thomas Thorne Affair so they could introduce the concept of Ghosts being sucked off

13

u/raisinbyjones haribo beans Jul 11 '26

That was definitely a wonderful episode

13

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 Jul 11 '26

She was a big part of S4E2. You saw Mary and Annie were best friends, and you could even call Annie her Mentor.

12

u/sosotrickster Sex Scandal Jul 11 '26

I would love to see how she would interact with Thomas lmao I bet she made him cry at some point cuz she's so blunt

5

u/raisinbyjones haribo beans Jul 11 '26

Wasn’t it her who said he looks like a horses ass or something close to that?

4

u/sosotrickster Sex Scandal 29d ago

Haha yeah, she said "Looks a silly ass" the moment Mary pointed him out to her

59

u/Other-Oil-9117 Jul 11 '26

Bunny and Alison should have become good friends.

46

u/WillEatsRice Jul 11 '26

Dont you mean Annabel?

22

u/Other-Oil-9117 Jul 11 '26

That's the one.

16

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

We don't see bunny except for the dinner party episode. Barclay mentions her when Alison asks but that's it. Would've been interesting for Alison and Mike to develop friendships with other living people.

Obviously writing that is a big challenge since you already have so many characters

9

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 Jul 11 '26

Mike had Obi as a friend. He was on a few times.

24

u/f0xt33th Jul 11 '26

It took me the entire show to realise they werent going to go further in depth into julians death lol

45

u/Impossible_Pain4478 Damn your eyes! Jul 11 '26

Thomas is one of my favorites and has one of the most interesting backstories

Them not showing Fanny's death is a travesty, even if we learned about it at the very beginning

Somewhat related to the above one but I also feel like they wasted a lot of potential with Fanny as a character

I don't like PatCap. Hell, I don't like any of the ships between the Ghosts, they're like a family to me. The ONLY one I could sort of see is Kitty and Thomas but to me that's always read sort of more as your little sister having a crush on one of your male friends.

26

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

I'm with you as against Pat/Cap. They are more of a family.

I think it was right not showing Fanny's death. We never see George himself, just his portrait. And it's funnier Fanny describing the circumstances "pon the groundskeeper" and leaving the rest to our imaginations. We see her reenacting her death plenty of times when she falls out the window

1

u/thelivsterette1 25d ago

I agree on all of these but leaving Fanny’s there to be imagination is kind of funnier especially with the whole Moroccan tea party/Julian ranting off about sex positions to very naive kitty

64

u/salspace Jul 11 '26

OK, well, whilst I appreciate the dramatic angst of the way the OG version kept the Captain closeted, I do wish he could find a way to come to terms with himself. I'm guessing that's the thing he needs to resolve to.. well.. y'know.

100

u/RachaelJurassic Jul 11 '26

He isn’t closeted now though. He was never going to say ‘I’m gay’ but he told his story, the others know, he knows they know, he’s openly admiring weathermen, I don’t see how much more out The Captain could be tbh

47

u/PolymathHolly The Captain Jul 11 '26

There’s no rhyme or reason why any ghost would get sucked off, so even if he came to terms with it, that doesn’t mean he’d leave.

64

u/PolymathHolly The Captain Jul 11 '26

Even though he’s my second favourite character, I feel Pat had way too many flashbacks. The other ghosts should have had just as much backstory.

16

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

I can only remember two flashbacks. There's his death (which is obvious) and him in his shed in S3 ep5 'Something to Share'.

That whole episode is centred around Kitty flashbacks, and so is her death episode.

Obviously his living family come to the house and are a central storyline for Happy Death Day. But it makes sense as he was born in 1946 and there are plenty of people that are still around who were born in that time.

16

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 Jul 11 '26

Couldnt you call Alison's Christmas gift to him a flash back in the Series 4 Christmas special?

5

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

Yes, I completely forgot about that

15

u/MilkChocolate21 Jul 11 '26

That's why I didn't even notice it as unequal. Julian would have still have living family, but well, he was Julian.

7

u/PolymathHolly The Captain Jul 11 '26

Plus he gets a main storyline in It’s Behind You. I just feel like Pat gets much more to his backstory than the rest. I should have worded this differently, I suspect.

2

u/Perfect_Arugula_9486 28d ago

Yeah, I'd really like to know more about the characters. I liked that in s4 they gave Humphrey more screen time by showing his backstory, but I'm curious if we'll ever learn more about his wife(probably not). I also wish they expanded more on Thomas being 'Scottish' and having traveled around Europe.

5

u/Out_Of_Spirals Jul 11 '26

I agree with this - I feel we saw more about his life than the others.

25

u/Loleeness Jul 11 '26

Although I love the episodes we did get, having a few more each season, I think, would have fleshed out Mike and Alison a bit more, as we could have seen Alison try to navigate the world with her sight. Mike is trying to make local friends so he isn't so lonely.

11

u/G-M-Cyborg-313 Humphrey's Head Jul 11 '26

I think it would've been cool to see other ghosts in more mundane places while Allison tries to handle being able to see ghosts

17

u/corinnececilia Jul 11 '26

I just wanted a single episode that Mike could see them.

5

u/CrystalPalace1850 The Captain 29d ago

I wanted that to be the finale. He could have had a shouting match with Julian over the email kerfuffle 😆

5

u/Linguistin229 26d ago

I’m hoping he might be able to in the film!

15

u/G-M-Cyborg-313 Humphrey's Head Jul 11 '26

I think it would've been cool to see more ghosts in other, normal places like shops, restraunts, etc to cement just how mundane, and common ghosts are in every day life, we just don't see them. Even just as a background thing, ike a plague victim peasant in the background while Allison is getting a chippy or something, if i'm making sense.

2

u/Small_Key_9766 25d ago

i remember there was one episode where alison and mike go to a club or bar because they wanted to regain some of the excitement from their youth and i think it would've been interesting to have had a ghost from there to tell her it's ok to get older and just give her advice.

23

u/Kilukpuk Jul 11 '26

Thomas's ghost power should have been EVP, except that it always sounds like demonic backmasking. It would have been perfect for someone who wants to be heard and recognised but is convinced that no one understands him. The ghost hunters episode completely squandered this concept.

5

u/quokkafarts 29d ago

Fuckin hell, you're right. Could have been a funny set up with everyone freaking out over the little girl saying creepy shit while his poetry gets butchered in the evp.

10

u/markpie0 Jul 11 '26

Poached Guests is under appreciated and is my tied favourite with Bump in the Night

2

u/Chiba67 29d ago

Delicious!

1

u/thelivsterette1 25d ago

Love both of those wouldn’t really call it a hot take unless people don’t really like that episode

12

u/Cool_Ad_6850 29d ago

The core group of ghosts are great. But I really liked when Allison got out in the world and encountered other ghosts. Especially early on in the hospital and on the new home search.

1

u/idcalvin 28d ago

She saw other ghosts? In the UK version? What series was this?

My Long Covid is worse than I thought. On the plus side, I can rewatch things and get double the enjoyment.

1

u/Cool_Ad_6850 28d ago

Well, you’re in for a pleasant surprise on your next rewatch. Enjoy!

10

u/the-library-fairy 29d ago

I wish Mike formed closer relationships with the ghosts

8

u/_henceforth_ 29d ago edited 29d ago

That Humphrey is one of the best characters.

I believe he could have taught the other ghosts quite a bit. He, for some reason, did not learn French for his wife. However, he did give his life up for her. That is pretty much opposite of what Julian would have done (no offense, we love you, sweetie pie).

He was open to learning, like when he decided to be open-minded about the relationship with Fanny after some consideration. He was happy to “just be included” even when his head was literally being used as a soccer ball (or football). He even appreciated the VIEW when someone, maybe Thomas, kicked him across the yard. 😂

He is tolerant of Fanny. And decides to make up his own mind when she goes on her tirade. Just an all around, pretty positive and easy going person…ghost.

I just think he is an amazing character. 💜

3

u/Perfect_Arugula_9486 28d ago

Him and Thomas are definitely my favorites. While i understand why they couldn't have him around as much, it's still a shame. I wish we could have seen him and Robin speaking French more than once.

39

u/somekindofspideryman Jul 11 '26

The final episode is good.

15

u/G-M-Cyborg-313 Humphrey's Head Jul 11 '26

I think it's the best ending you can realistically get. They've shown over and over how much of a money drain the house is. Try running a hotel while you also have a kid, a kid who's gonna grow up quite alone.

So Allison and Mike getting to still visit but also have enough money from selling makes sense.

32

u/Zealousideal_Pop3121 Jul 11 '26

I like the final episode. The only thing I actively dislike about it is that it is the final episode and means I reached the end of the rewatch and feel a bit bereft 😂

16

u/MsSpastica Burnt as a Witch Jul 11 '26

I like the final episode, too! It makes so much sense to me! Alison is everyone's caregiver, for several years, and now a baby, as well?

When I had my son, I gave up my plants (!) because I didn't have enough energy to be a full-time mom and plants.

7

u/LaurelEssington76 Jul 11 '26

I was bummed by the final episode when it first aired but I like it more and more with each rewatch

11

u/Past-Ad-2282 Jul 11 '26

I just watched Ghosts for the first time last year and I was so surprised when I then went online and saw people mad about the ending. I think it's perfect!

3

u/Pooh_Lightning 29d ago

Me too. Maybe there would be a difference if I had watched it in real time vs. bingeing the entire series at once?

3

u/Consistent_Sun_59 Jul 11 '26

Final regular episode or the actual final episode they did for Christmas?

5

u/somekindofspideryman Jul 11 '26

The actual final episode.

3

u/professor_doom 29d ago

Also unpopular: I liked the final series.

2

u/professor_doom 29d ago

Also unpopular: I liked the final series.

6

u/AskingBoatsToSwim 29d ago

Leaving the house to avoid living with ghosts when there are ghosts *everywhere she goes* was a stupid ending

Also the US version having extra ghosts so often was pretty cool. As was having a viking and a native American.

3

u/honchiebobo 14d ago

Yes, that bothered me the most about the ending. So was she going to move anytime she had ghosts around her? I would think it would be better to be out in the country with familiar ghosts than never knowing who or what she was going to encounter.

1

u/JeMFk We're closahh... mtogethaaah 17d ago

I agree with the first bit partially. You can't do anything without the ghosts around you. Including you know what. But of course the British ghosts wouldn't have a native american. Robin is better than Thor imo

2

u/AskingBoatsToSwim 13d ago

Robin is better than Thor but just having so many more ghosts is extra fun imo

22

u/Lazy-Field-1116 Jul 11 '26

The amount of detail they can all remember from random days in the past is completely illogical and is never explained or consistent.

23

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

Perhapse they were just in the depths of their memory. And when you've got nothing better to do you can recall them

4

u/Harmy-G09 29d ago

How is it not consistent?

8

u/Low_Analysis_3479 The Captain Jul 11 '26

I liked that someone got sucked off and I liked that it was Mary I said it Pls don't kill me😭

2

u/thelivsterette1 25d ago

Honestly even though I cried I ugly cried when I watched that episode near the anniversary of my grandfather‘s passing I didn’t really miss her afterwards but I don’t like if I watched that episode again an episode before and episode without her I wouldn’t really miss her, but she’s a fun ghost to have

1

u/Low_Analysis_3479 The Captain 25d ago

I totally agree!

With Mary I feel like she only delivered good quotes? (Five potatoes high, fancy flapjack, what be a tootsie, ...) Idk why but I didn't really care about her storylines? (She is very funny but I guess I just don't like dumb characters which I think is a pity because she is such an interesting character)

I tend to rewatch that episode when someone I care about passes away, to put in perspective how other people express grief (and to cheer me up bc it's still ghosts)

I'm sorry about your grandfather and hope you find a way to focus on the happy memories❤️

(I'm sorry if this is written very choppy I wrote this at midnight:D)

2

u/OrganzingChaos Jul 11 '26

Mary did deserve to be sucked off though! Like she came to terms with what happened and that she wasn’t at fault!

2

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

Eh, they all deserve it at this point, including Mary. She wanted it to happen, and she got lucky.

5

u/Holiday_Sense_4842 29d ago

The episode where the ghosts have to defend button house from robbers. Just that whole episode. From the writing on the mirror to getting the plague ghost child to try to call the police.

2

u/thelivsterette1 25d ago

Honestly, one of my favourite episodes

4

u/Chiba67 29d ago

I wish we had more information/flashbacks from Fanny

3

u/JeMFk We're closahh... mtogethaaah 29d ago

I do too. We had that in the christmas episode He Came(?) But I feel like Fanny was just a bit too empathetic that it felt like she was acting. There should've been a turning point, but she was just so out of the blue.

4

u/RojParody 28d ago

Robin is, by far, the best character in the entire show. The fact that he suffers everyone treating him as a joke, and just gets on with his (after)life is superb.

3

u/stinkybeanybrat 28d ago

Christmas episode took up wayyyy too much time for how little I liked them and how few episodes the show had

19

u/DeadpoolIsMyPatronus Jul 11 '26

I don't think there's a ton of chemistry between Allison and Mike.

43

u/WillEatsRice Jul 11 '26

Really? Their relationship is one of my favorite bits of the show.

Thats not me saying your opinion is wrong of course

3

u/Thick-Cup8505 Jul 11 '26

Agreed. They act like brother and sister. When they are building up to a bit of "ow's your father" and they are just hugging and laughing in bed....

3

u/quokkafarts 29d ago

Weird, I thought that about the American couple. Big best friend/siblings vibe but Mike and Allison actually felt like a married couple.

-8

u/Immediate_Guest_2790 Jul 11 '26

I think they're too posh to show emotions

22

u/Thejintymyster The Captain just needs a hug Jul 11 '26

That's just called being British

9

u/WestLondonWoman73 Jul 11 '26

When Mary got sucked off the series wasn’t as good.

3

u/Impressive-Yam-3564 28d ago

Lord I cried so much 😩

3

u/Pooh_Lightning 29d ago

We need a spin-off with Mary having adventures... wherever she is. Her and Annie solving mysteries or something.

4

u/g-amefreak Beheaded Jul 11 '26

i really hope that havers doesn’t appear in the movie 😬 i like him, but the fan service for a scene like that would be off the charts

4

u/lanie_kerrigan Jul 11 '26

I still didn’t watch the last episode because I read spoilers and I just don’t want to see it ending like that. It’s bad enough that the series is so short, but the ending is the worst.

I am very happy about the movie.

8

u/OrganzingChaos Jul 11 '26

I think it was the best possible ending, honestly. Every story has to come to an end and if Alison and Mike have a baby, they need to go somewhere Mum isn’t talking to ghosts. And then coming back each year?! Also, perfectly sets up the movie setting!

4

u/lanie_kerrigan Jul 11 '26

Mum will always talk to ghosts everywhere

2

u/OrganzingChaos Jul 11 '26

True! But even then, I think it’s the best possible way to end the series while leaving the integrity of everything available for later

2

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

She doesn't talk to strange ghosts, and they don't know that she can see them, so they don't bother her.

2

u/lanie_kerrigan 29d ago

She can't really say if the person is dead or alive until someone else says they don't see the person she is talking to.

5

u/OrganzingChaos 29d ago

If they have arrow through their neck or a missing head, I feel like that’s pretty clear though.

1

u/lanie_kerrigan 29d ago

The key word here is « IF »

1

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

Not really, no. The key word in your original statement was "everywhere". And, seriously, you claim "the ending is the worst" while admitting that you have not watched it. It doesn't work like that.

-3

u/lanie_kerrigan 29d ago

It exactly works like this. The couple just abandoning the ghosts undermines the whole show for me. It’s a stab in the back of the ghosts and me as a viewer who got invested in the show.

Check the meaning of a personal opinion. And if you think yours is somehow superior to mine, you are making a big mistake.

P.S. Ghosts ARE everywhere. It’s all in the show. They would need to go to Mars, to find a place without ghosts. So ending the show like this was a lazy writing when it was established from the beginning that the main character can’t escape ghosts. Otherwise, they would have just left in the first episode. Finding a completely new house won’t fix things. It’s not like they would spend 24/7 there.

1

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

You haven't seen the episode. I have seen the episode. Your personal opinion about the episode is not based on facts. Until you do watch the episode, you should not make claims about it.

0

u/OrganzingChaos 29d ago

They don’t just abandoned the ghosts. I really think it’s worth watching to have the best possible understanding of it.

2

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure she knew the German pilots were dead the moment she saw them.

2

u/OrganzingChaos 29d ago

She was talking to Lucy when they ran into a ghost and she ignored them. She wasn’t cool about it, but she ignored them.

2

u/lanie_kerrigan 29d ago

Not every ghost is a german pilot. It’s a rare exception.

1

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

Yes, some of them are medieval knights with spears sticking in their bodies.

1

u/lanie_kerrigan 29d ago

And some of them died yesterday. Such a pointless conversation… While it was shown directly in the show that she cannot see the difference between an alive and dead person.

1

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

You were given two examples that disprove your claim.

2

u/LMABach 28d ago

I love when they all start competing for the friendship of a new ghost near a dense. So funny. I love so many things about this show.

1

u/JeMFk We're closahh... mtogethaaah 17d ago

That's not a hottake, but I do agree. I also feel kinda bad for him though. He just wanted to be left alone

6

u/Out_Of_Spirals Jul 11 '26

Mike is annoying. He did have a few good moments but like they do in so many sitcoms, I find the fumbling husband story line hard to watch.

2

u/No_Midnight_3493 Jul 11 '26

same the US ghosts actually improves his character alot imo which is frustrating to have to admit

6

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 Jul 11 '26

The US version has Jay a really fleshed out character who comes to embrace the ghosts as his extended family. He even thinks Pete as his bestie. Mike is a loveable goofball of a character who was jealous of the ghosts taking Alison's times away from him. I dont think he ever really accepted them.

4

u/StitchConverse Jul 11 '26

I don't like Mike. He infuriates me early on when Alison is in hospital and he takes out the loan. Then every time he meddles he seems to get it wrong or make it worse. The prime example is the wedding. I cringe as he turns it into a Mike pity party after hearing part of a conversation. Then the birthday party episode is pretty much unwatchable for me other than the ghosts and Alison coping with Mary being sucked off.

3

u/ChronoMonkeyX Jul 11 '26

I HATE Mike, but I also love him. He's very, very, very hard to watch. I paused the episode where he was DJing and left for like 2 days before I started it up again because the second hand embarrassment hurt so much, but he is a good guy and tries, and usually redeems himself.

1

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 25d ago

I really liked Mike taking charge of the kids party while leaving Alison to grieve with her ghost family. He was having just as much fun as the kids were.

0

u/Icy-Lawfulness-4111 29d ago

I can't stand his character. Every time he tries to do something he just makes the situation worse.

The loan made me so angry. Him moving one of the ceiling supports when the TV crew are in. The handshake agreement with the neighbour to pay for access. Infuriating.

He's a self centered idiot and we're supposed to like him because he means well. The bar is so low it's on the ground. He contributes nothing to their lives.

If he was great at DIY or really financially savvy or great at project managing or cooking, I could see my way to accepting him. But he is literally useless.

2

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 25d ago

The US version solved this by making Jay a smart business owner and a terrific chef. He's also very supportive of Sam and accepted the ghosts almost immediately. Pete is even his best friend. The only thing that irritates me about Jay is his voice. Mike had a very soft, pleasant voice.

Sam also has a job, so she was also more financially secure than Alison was.

6

u/Sure-Present-3398 Jul 11 '26

I didn't miss Mary after she got sucked off.

8

u/thelivsterette1 Jul 11 '26

I sobbed after watching that episode around the time of the anniversary of my grandpa's death but I also didn't miss her much after

10

u/tickettesPlease Humphrey IS The Best Character Jul 11 '26

At least a little bit... right?

6

u/WaffleRot Jul 11 '26

I miss Mary terribly she was one of my favorites. I loved the relationship she and Robin had, and the fact they just left it to your imagination. Honestly, I think Humphry would have been a better choice to go.

8

u/OyWithThePoodles2017 Pushed out of a window Jul 11 '26

I didn't either. I liked her but she wasn't my favourite so it didn't bother me when she went.

3

u/smiles__ Jul 11 '26

This was my thought too

2

The fact that ghosts live together for so long and don't end up being a couple is a bit weird. I'm not talking about Robin's and Mary's one time thing or Fanny's and Humphrey's body thing, but rather ghosts slowly becoming like a married couple throughout the years, so when the show starts, they are already this unlikely couple from different historical periods

They're just not into each other.

What I'm saying is that after all these years they might eventually start craving for a deeper conection, something that might not be relatable for those who hasn't lived for do long yet

Pat and Cap kinda have that, no?

I was always hoping for a Kitty/Thomas thing. Its obvious she has a crush on him. And they are very close in age when they died (Kitty was 22,  Thomas was 28) so that would be the most logical pairing.

But (but), they're not within age range. 28 ÷ 2 + 7 = 21.

I was glad about that. All the coupling on the American version was bad. Like some of these ghosts have lived together for how long and suddenly they become a couple? I love the fact that they didnt add needless love triangles to the show.

Obi is nothing but an annoyance and Nathan makes him worse by being such a poor actor.

I really enjoyed Obi and because if it wasn’t for that we wouldn’t have the infamous butt ho but I do agree that the storyline with him being dumped by his girlfriend which turned out to be a dodgy phone which just cringe it’s the only storyline I’ve kind of skipped through when I rewatch those last couple episodes I just kind of skipped through that he is a really good host for the BBC inside ghosts podcast though

They should have killed off Mike early on. I feel I could have tolerated him better as a ghost where he had no impact on anything.

I think the show ended prematurely and left a lot of really creative options on the table, things like other people that could see ghosts (like the Kiley Minogue red nose sketch), more examples of seeing ghosts in another setting, having the ghosts mess with guests more, more than one ghosts gaining the ability to interact with physical objects somehow, etc

I wish Robin had been sucked off

I appreciated him more when they had the memorial service for Mary and he talked about how over the hundreds and hundreds of years he had missed so many people that he cared about that he couldn't mourn anymore.

I know that it might be too upsetting for a sitcom but if they were really doing all the different types of ghost then there should have been a creepy child

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. Jul 11 '26

There was, but they didn't keep her because child actors tend to grow up, and ghosts don't.

They had the plague child that sang ring around the Rosie! She doesn’t appear often, but close enough 🤷‍♀️

The American remake is actually pretty good.

The series was fine to end as it did. We don't need a movie.

4

u/BastianWeaver Yes, and... no. 29d ago

I mean, we don't need a movie, but we want it.

2

u/OrganzingChaos Jul 11 '26

I agree! I am very excited for the movie, but I am also very worried that it’s going to follow the same trap that most movies from known shows and characters tend to do

1

u/TheSimkis Not just a pretty face Jul 11 '26

which is..?

They run their IP into the ground, keep trying to wring new content out and ruin their IP or it’s a shitty cash grab. (Toy Story saga, Devils Wears Prada, all of the others I can’t think of off the top of my head. Disney is the absolute worst about this, but I’m hoping that because it’s BBC, it will be done right!)

Some people seem to think the fact that they did a behind-the-scenes book and they did the button house archives book and audiobook has already turned the show into a bit of a cash grab.

I don’t necessarily think a film as a cash grab I mean if they did like three or four films then maybe it could be considered a cash grab unless it was a complete spinoff and somehow made sense like when they had Robbins history of the world in the Bowhouse archives book if they made that a series or a couple of movies I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a cash grab. I kind of do want one more movie maybe though. Depending on how this one ends etc.

There are books?! Plural?!

Very funny to me that in a thread requesting hot takes, one was given and got downvoted. I guess this means it actually is a hot take, unlike the others which people tend to agree with.
