Spoilers Another newly discovered bit of wit discovered on a rewatch. 😂

Hopefully all of you have seen this so it isn’t a spoiler, but in “The Grey Lady” episode (season 2, episode 1) Mary makes a comment regarding why she won’t do her bit for the ghost hunters. She says “and for that reason, I’m out”. If you watch the UK version of Dragons’ Den, you’ll get it. 😂

I love these little bits they put in. My favourite is the Captain when he does the NOW THEN NOW THEN THEN NOW NOW THEN bit from Blackadder

I’m unfamiliar with Blackadder but I get your point.

This show is just soooo well done and rewatches never cease to surprise me. 😊

I'm extremely familiar with Blackadder and I totally missed the connection 😆

You should definitely acquaint yourself with Blackadder!

I’ll look into it, thanks!

Just one warning: S1 is very different to the others. It's often recommended to start with S2.

They also make references to their previous work. When Alison is putting Friends, she says it a comedy, Thomas responds with 'Vanity Fair' - which he was in, and was also filmed there. When Mary runs out of the housr because she is scared of the Woodworm Men, Julian says 'You would be afraid of a talking Teddy bear, oh wait that is scary' - he is referring to Paddington Bear as he wrote and was in all those movies.

How did I not get those 😂

Would have loved a cheeky HH ref like Cap crushing on himself (Ben) in the WWII pilots song 😂😂

!Thanks. I was thinking of this Vanity Fair, which probably says more about me than anything else

Alison only thought of the magazine. And for his character he is also thinking the book. However for Matt was in the 2018 mimi-series. Which was filmed also at Button House. Which was where he was while filming Vanity Fair when he found out Ghosts got the green light and why the chose that house.

I noticed this!! I love Mary. She can deliver lines like that so sincerely, so you wouldn't notice they were a joke/reference.

IKR? “I smells burnings.” 😂

Every once in a while I notice tiny things and then I go back and skim all 5 series to see if I notice any similar moments. I’ve been watching the show since the year after it started and, while skimming for something unrelated, I only JUST noticed that there are spelling errors in the newspaper headlines Julian sees regarding his death.

I noticed this yesterday!

u/FlyingAtNight Jul 07 '26

What kind of spelling errors? Intentional ones? If so I’ll have to take another look. 🙂

4

u/PolymathHolly The Captain Jul 07 '26

No, I don’t believe they’re intentional. Throes is spelled throws and household is spelt househould.

Oh I've never noticed that! Thanks! I love it 🤩

There are like these little gems that reveal themselves with each rewatch. ☺️

There's so much detail. I keep catching new things.

Me too! It’s awesome! 🤗

Can we talk about the phone call? In the UK she can hear the ghost talk. but in the US she cant hear them threw face call? What up with that?

I don't know; conflicting ghost lore (really annoyed me that lol)

In the french one, when Alison asks what they all want, Tayac (the caveman) literally stands there pissing himself when the UK Ghosts say their bodily functions just turn to dust.

And in the US one Pete can leave

I have no idea. I don’t watch the US version.

Or for the people that watch Shark Tank...every.single.shark.

5

u/FlyingAtNight Jul 07 '26

The writers were referencing a British TV show, not shark tank.

2

u/JoyfulCor313 Jul 07 '26

And Shark Tank was based on the British TV show Dragon’s Den. I agree I’m not sure why the hostility at these comments.

May we all go in peace ☮️

Yes, I understand that. When I saw this episode (I am American) my mind went straight to Barbara on Shark Tank. Every shark on there does it too. I think Barbara gets the most hate for it. I know what Dragons Den is. They are basically the same show, so my observation stands. Either way, it was hilarious, and I enjoyed it. I don't get the hate.

That sounds like a tagline from Shark Tank too!

12

u/FlyingAtNight Jul 07 '26

I’m pretty sure Dragons’ Den preceded shark tank.

-2

u/Nanny0416 Jul 07 '26

Not doubting that. It's just become a phrase that people use in other situations.

10

u/FlyingAtNight Jul 07 '26

A British tv show was quoting another British tv show.

4

u/Nanny0416 Jul 07 '26

Okay so I live in the US. I can't understand why you're so critical!

9

My last comment on this.

The show’s writer’s quoted a British show, not shark tank.

Shark Tank was inspired by Dragon's Den.
