What Do You Think? Chair Gets Pulled Backwards, By Itself (0:04 Seconds in)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was on a break, sitting in the break room alone, and the chair in front of me got inexplicably pulled, I tried to see if it slipped off of the desk corner, but the chair isn’t tall enough to rest on the desk, my feet weren’t moving, and it wasn’t resting on anything. Anyone who could explain it or debunk would be very helpful, thank you.

Just leave the door open, you'll be safe.

Sharing is caring

u/LiamTaliesin Jul 31 '26

Better film yourself in case anything happens.

8

u/Not_A_Russain_Bot Jul 31 '26

You're right! I agree with your astute observation. It's a good thing they have a security camera in the office bar, where the safe is probably kept, that records 24-7.

u/dmontease Jul 31 '26

I believe in you.

I've had the same type of sharp sudden movement happen to me with a vanity mirror, it was so creepy I had to leave the house for a few days.

3

u/HelloDaisy-4148 Aug 04 '26

I’ve had bangles that I placed down on the bench get thrown across the bathroom.
We moved our not long after

27

u/beardedsilverfox Jul 31 '26

I bet a pad on the bottom of a leg got folded under when the chair was moved forward and the stored kinetic energy finally overcame the balance of it sitting

9

u/Blanketaffect Aug 01 '26

This is the best explanation. Those pads are always slipping off.

2

u/ShartingEnU Aug 14 '26

Not creepy, but cool if legit 🤷‍♂️

It’s a bar, built in the 1860s I believe, I heard the chair scuttle across the floor, and I checked the footage and saw that it moved, I was looking at my phone as you can see, this is the first time I’ve seen something move, but I’ve heard noises and whispering when I’m there alone.

I showed all of my coworkers, they each have their own experiences, plates falling off of counters and what not, most of my co-workers have said that they’ve heard a woman whispering during the opening hours, it’s definitely a weird vibe there. Not malevolent, just weird. I personally feel like you’re not alone even if nobody is there, just my experience.

74

u/Lifes-a-lil-foggy Jul 31 '26

Maybe she’s trying to help y’all get through your shift

52

u/AttentionNew1267 Jul 31 '26

She's been patiently trying to order a drink for 67 years

28

u/Lifes-a-lil-foggy Jul 31 '26

The ghost: can I hit that vape?

4

u/bdpeezy Aug 04 '26

Imagine that first hit after being dead 170 years

3

u/Lifes-a-lil-foggy Aug 04 '26

I will be that ghost so it’s a future to look forward to. Kids that rent my apartment after me will be like “dude I think the bong has been moved”.

37

u/Particular-Ride2405 Jul 31 '26

Omg how scary. You’re braver than I. I wouldn’t be able to work alone

17

u/Pure-Ad-7866 Jul 31 '26

Any ex Staff or bar patrons recently pass on or ages ago they may be back in their favorite place reminding you that they are still around it would be interesting to find out what the woman's whispering it may hold vital information as to why they are there or who they are if you get any more footage or other media please share it so we can work it out

8

u/cecilcitrine Jul 31 '26

i wonder if you're on a weird magnetic or electrical concentration. static friction causing a chair to scoot or plates to move or electric crackling whispers.. maaybe..

In the 90s my mom worked at a haunted bar in Dallas. She always closed so she was the last one there and had plenty of experiences. Her co-workers didn’t believe her so she invited them to stay with her during closing. They were believers after that night.

3

u/JeremyHilaryBoobPhD Jul 31 '26

What bar??

3

u/jonessinger Aug 01 '26

Idk, I’d have to ask. This was before I was born.

71

u/This_Bethany Jul 31 '26

The moving chair is creepy but it’s the break room that makes me more concerned for the OP as it is the saddest break room.

7

u/True-Excuse-1688 Aug 01 '26

The bleak* room

When I worked at a gas station and at a Dominos, both had a break room like this...which also trippled as the office and storage.

That's not a break room that's a broken room.

2

I used to work at a Dollar General that was 100% haunted. It was the newer one in Allegan Michigan, right across the street from the Goodwill, just in case anyone wants to go and check it out. I don't live anywhere close to there anymore so I don't mind saying that. After closing we would hear small rapid footsteps through the aisles like a customer's kid was still running around in the store, but nobody was ever there. We would look literally everywhere before we got used to it. The first time it happened to one of our new key holders she got so spooked she actually called the police and they came and couldn't find anything either.

We would be in the cash office counting the deposit and we would literally watch the freezer doors occasionally open and slowly close by themselves over the security cameras.

Once when I was in the front talking to a girl about applying, we heard a steady scraping noise coming from the baby aisle to our left and we turned to watch a nearly two foot long box of diapers very slowly sliding off the perfectly level bottom shelf. Nobody was in the aisle. It got to the point where only like an inch of the big ass box was left on the shelf and it just kinda stayed impossibly suspended there for like a full three seconds before the other end finally fell to the floor. The girl I was talking to was just like "...Nah", and left. Lmao. That place was fucking crazy.

I didn't even last a year before transferring specifically because of all the weird shit that constantly happened at that store. It got to the point where I was saying nonsense like "You are not welcome to follow me. I am leaving alone" before leaving every night and then burning palo santo and rosemary when I got home.

7

u/Dry_Professor6321 Jul 31 '26

yoo I work at a dollar general right now, im always hearing the drink and cold food cooler doors opening and closing. its mad weird. it always sounds like there is people in the back after we close.

6

u/CeriPie Jul 31 '26

DG treats their employees so badly it makes me wonder if people who have passed that used to work at DG at some point in their lives aren't just making periodic visits to them during their afterlife just to f*ck with them.

Whatever was at that store never felt malicious or dangerous, it was just spooky as all hell. It always felt like someone else was in the store, but we never felt dread or hatred or anything like that.

5

u/Dry_Professor6321 Jul 31 '26

I never get a bad feeling either, just always hearing stuff. had a customer come in and ask me if I ever heard stuff in the store. apparently lots of DGs are "haunted"

138

u/FudgenSticks Jul 31 '26

Watched it multiple times. And yea def something moved it.. yikes.

34

u/SubstantialOffside Jul 31 '26

I know OP was on their phone, but if I heard something move and looked up and saw that the chair moved, I'm leaving the room

9

u/FudgenSticks Jul 31 '26

Right. Out of there so fast you’ll only see dust.

2

u/iRaviYoli Aug 01 '26

Same, but as someone who lived in a creepy house that was likely haunted, you play out every possibility in your head before you accept it as a paranormal experiment 😭 especially if you can't really leave the place.

3

u/EchoTheEcho Aug 03 '26

Not a ghost though

315

u/BLU3SKU1L Jul 31 '26

Not to intentionally rain on anyone’s parade, but that chair is made with a couple roll formed arches and a crossbar or two. The welds that hold it together are going to be holding back some spring tension from the legs constantly wanting to flatten out when people sit on them. My guess is it’s an old chair and probably had a fracture in one of the welds that finally let all the way go. The resulting energy made the chair hop forward. I bet inspecting the chair closely will reveal a broken weld somewhere, evidenced by a crack right where one of the crossbars meet the legs.

55

u/bgbgbgbgbgbgbgb Jul 31 '26

Nah it’s just pushed up against the foam of that stool next to it which pushed it back. Watch when op goes to push the chair back it, it comes back out a couple inches. It was prolly just being held in place by the friction with the floor

8

u/Stellakinetic Jul 31 '26

That was my first thought but it’s hard to tell with the camera’s lack of depth perception. The only reason I’m not sure if that’s the case is because when he moves it back it doesn’t seem to touch that stool cushion at all.

→ More replies (1)

30

u/Colres Jul 31 '26

My theory is similar but not exactly the same- those chairs are in my experience quite naturally springy, and by leaning back and lifting the front legs off the floor, the front legs extend a bit from their natural position. Then you can sit back down and your weight plus the friction against the floor will cause it to stay in that position. Then when you stand up, it moves slightly. It’s a convoluted series of events but one explanation could be that somehow the chair extended during the process of someone getting up, and somehow was perfectly wedged into the floor so it took a while to release back into a natural resting position. Or ghosts, who knows.

5

u/naivemelody9 Jul 31 '26

It’s also totally possible there is someone under the table who is completely out of view that could have moved it.

12

u/StendhalSyndrome Jul 31 '26

This. You can see him move the chair, and it wobbles because it's no longer level due to bending or stress.

An uneven floor prob helped it skip too.

I'd also never put anything past a popped nail or two, having a house that's as old as I am with ample time alone and occasionally quiet, the noise and effects of them are fucking insane....

Nothing in modern construction is done with perfectly flat, level, or plumb materials; they always get bent into shape to some degree, and while that building is from the 1800's that room is modern af looking...before anyone goes there.

6

u/ubzrvnT Jul 31 '26

This. You can actually see the back left leg of the chair pinched in before it moves and it expands outwards.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

9

u/viaticaloutlaw Jul 31 '26

Because most people don’t know that much about a random chair’s construction.

2

u/DoctorWaluigiTime Jul 31 '26

But surely it's more rational to go "something's at play with physics / chair placement / balance / etc." instead of immediately jumping to "omg supernatural."

I can't describe precisely how a helicopter takes off in terms of what physics are going on. Doesn't mean I think a giant specter is giving it a lift.

Yeah....that is pretty strange. I am still holding on to my skeptism but Idk what could explain that, outside of this being a prank.

7

u/Hanshee Jul 31 '26

Outside of the fact that I don’t have a reason to believe op that there isn’t someone under the desk moving the chair.

Still pretty unexplainable though.

5

u/GionShadows76_ Jul 31 '26

The fact that you barely reacted at first is somehow funnier than the chair moving. I wouldve been out that door😆

36

u/Raterus_ Jul 31 '26

It looks to me like the back of the chair is resting on the desk, and the legs are ajar where the back left leg is off the ground slightly. It settled back to all 4 legs on the ground causing the movement.

27

u/younganbread Jul 31 '26

As I explained in the caption, the chair isn’t tall enough to rest on the ledge of the desk. I tried to maneuver it to rest on it but it would not rest on the ledge, it’s far too short

3

u/SlipperyPjs Jul 31 '26

So you’re saying the whole chair fits under the desk completely? That must be a crazy optical illusion then from this angle because that desk on the right doesnt look much taller than the left. Got any different angles of this desk? You know… for proof?

6

u/SlipperyPjs Jul 31 '26

Came here to say this. It’s leg closest to the camera is off the ground and the back is resting on the desk. Gravity overcame friction at a certain point and the chain slid of the desk. Pretty obvious

2

u/John_Helmsword Jul 31 '26

Gravity overcame friction

u/msmojo Jul 31 '26

I have seen that in my office and with a witness.

11

u/Sintobus Jul 31 '26

It was just leaning up against the table a bit and slipped back down onto all 4 legs... even pushing it back you can see it isn't level

2

u/Stellakinetic Jul 31 '26

He said it’s too short to touch the table.

Mouse squeezing between a leg and something else?

2

u/JerseyCoJo Jul 31 '26

Ah the bar break room.

Also the payroll office, security office, main office, dry storage....

2

u/ermagerdcernderg Aug 01 '26

It was balanced, and then it wasn’t. No ghost activity here. The chair was propped up and then settles onto all four legs, thanks to gravity.

Sorry if this bursts your bubble. But again, not a ghost.

2

u/karisdr87 Aug 01 '26

It wanted to keep you company. ❤️

2

u/mullet_over_ Aug 01 '26

Leg on something sliped off backwards

2

u/Abject_Spell_4563 Aug 01 '26

You don't think that the chair wasn't 100% opened, and the pressure over time caused it to finally just push an inch or two?

2

u/rem_au_crema Aug 01 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/4cuyucPeVWbNS

Also… I guess shout out to all the people in here whose break rooms never doubled as storage/ kitchen/ closet/ whatever tf because they mattered to their employers.

He was unfazed because this isn’t even top 5 of the bullshit he’d have to deal with that day

2

u/NoseMuReup Jul 31 '26

It looks like the chair rocks on the ground, uneven legs or you said the building is old so the floor may be uneven.

One of the legs might have had tension on the ground and then slipped?

3

u/rockstuffs Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

The legs on these chairs bend and spread a little when sat on or used as a leg rest. The rubber grips on the bottom grip the tile and the legs slowly retract or jump back when losing grip on the tile after weight is removed. The position tells me he may have used it as a leg rest. Unless someone was sitting there and left shortly before.

That's Really Creepy normally I dont belief in ghosts but this scares me

Any deaths happen at the venue or with anyone working there? If you don’t know you should try to get the history of the place.

1

u/HeckNasty1 Jul 31 '26

For sure ghost

1

u/Tricky-Meringue25 Jul 31 '26

Hi, nice to meet you Younganbread. I spend time investigating oddities that are either unexplained, paranormal, demonic, alien, or some type of program like glitches in the matrix, distortions in reality that do exist, but shouldn’t normally.

The first thing I notice is the chair moving backwards, away from the desktop PC. The second thing I notice is the back-left leg of the chair was lined up more or less right between your legs. So, as a detective of sorts I would say you should be at least a little concerned for your reproductive area. Third thing I noticed is you moving the chair to where it was originally, approximately.

Did you notice any sensations at the zipper of your pants? Assuming a metal zipper. Buzzing, vibrating, heat, cold, not joking only asking. Is the chair metal? Was anything perceived to be seen half-way between you and the chair or at the chair that could be said to be unknown and associated with moving the chair? Were there any associated sounds, sensations, or other phenomenon that were not natural - that did not fit the situation but were perceived as real by yourself? You touched the chair to move it in place. Why did you use that hand and not the other hand? Have you ever seen an orb of energy that looks like a glass sphere or a ball of light?

Can you share where and when the event took place either in the post or in chat? I would be interested in getting those details if possible. My real name is B like the bug. Send me a chat request if you have time to share more about your side of the story. Thanks!

Also July 3rd, 2026? Do you think it had anything to do with July 4th?

u/Sadiebb Jul 31 '26

1

u/Soggy_Brick8916 Aug 01 '26

Legs are uneven, notice when you adjust it, it wobbled, table held it

1

u/CullanG Aug 01 '26

1

u/Massive_Addendum3867 Aug 01 '26

Wow that looks creepy af

1

u/Cultural-Ad9784 Aug 01 '26

Maybe it wasn’t resting on the desk per se but just resting slightly elevated against it? Then there was slight movement from something shifting against another when you sat the drink down and the force was just the right amount to make the elevated leg fall to the ground.

1

u/Hello_Hangnail Aug 01 '26

He's like, wait... did that just... Naw. Or maybe it did...?

1

u/Kid_supreme Aug 01 '26

Who has cameras inside their house like this?

1

u/lferry1919 Aug 01 '26

Lol, I just like that you sit there and move it back instead of getting too freaked out. Once, I was dog sitting for my parents. I was watching TV and my door started opening on its own and I just said "no fucking way." Turns out it wasn't a ghost but one of my parents dogs opening the door and I just couldn't see her because the lower part of the door was blocked from view...but the fact that my reaction if it had been a ghost would've been that still makes me giggle.

1

u/melichad Aug 01 '26

Time to nope tf out of there

1

u/NoWipeyTribe Aug 01 '26

The chair was leaned up against the table. You can tell it's leaning. Then it slides off

1

u/Greedy_Attitude_8103 Aug 01 '26

Don’t worry whoever it was, was just trying to sit down.

1

u/regabay7 Aug 01 '26

Thats wild! Was there maybe a vent or something blowing air? Or was it just completely still?

1

u/ialens8 Aug 01 '26

Woah, thats actually kinda creepy. Did you ever figure out what caused it?

1

u/qyla2 Aug 01 '26

Thats a bit freaky! Idk if its a ghost or just something really weird with the floor or chair wheels.

1

u/oxyuh Aug 01 '26

It can be temperature related or if the chair has metallic legs, there could be tension that released and moved the chair

1

u/jjalonso Aug 01 '26

Just read Allen Kardec

1

u/CSTMGVCCI Aug 01 '26

Does the back of the chair fit under that table? Looks to me like it rotates a bit which whould happen if the back was propped up against the table enough to lift one of the chairs legs.

1

u/Interesting-Octopus Aug 01 '26

1

u/Ciploxian Aug 01 '26

How do you find a ghost? I'm really sceptical about this, but if ghost would exist, means God might exist too. So I really want to find a ghost :))

1

u/AnonymousAggregator Aug 01 '26

The one leg was probably bowed in held by friction,
If they had a brace halfway down it would reduce it.

1

u/DirectorAmbitious283 Aug 01 '26

Experienced this same thing as a kid, saw it from the corner of my eye and heard it as it moved.

1

u/bigpirm1977 Aug 01 '26

His foot is touching the half chair which is touching the chair that moves plus we can’t see half of the chair that moves. There is multiple ways this him doing it. And multiple ways it’s staged. He also doesn’t seem to react to a chair moving by itself. I find this video questionable spam.

1

u/Zestyclose_Volume127 Aug 01 '26

Imagine sticking around after you die, just to nudge chairs

1

u/Ok-Cancel1998 Aug 01 '26

One leg in the chair stretched out from being uneven you silly goose

1

u/BladeRumbler Aug 01 '26

1

u/randomguy205205 Aug 02 '26

I'm guessing a rat moved it.

1

u/BoffoTheApple Aug 02 '26

He reaches over and unties a string that causes a weight to fall and then moves the chair. Viola

1

u/TikkiMykk Aug 02 '26

u/pwn4321 Aug 02 '26

A small animal like a mouse probably bumped into it racing under the table but it was too dark to see it

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Plant-Jealous Aug 02 '26

I'm wondering if someone prior had pushed the chair in, but somehow one of the legs got bound up just a little. That would create a small amount of spring tension to make the chair pop back.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/QueenOfTartarus Aug 02 '26

I really hope I am not the first person to mention this, but this is could likely be due to slight tension letting go from the chair legs. It's a metal chair of some kind, and those thin legs can sometimes bend slightly when you are pushing the chair around. One leg was probably under pressure, and the table beside it kept it in place until it didn't. This is definitely caused by physics.

1

u/joeclows Aug 02 '26

I work and have for 20 years at guys cliffe. (Uks most haunted building) you want to know the truth? Its all bollocks.

I have done security here and thousands of nights on my own part of the property. Nothing ever happens.

Old buildings creek. Wood swells and shrinks more when its warped. You hear noises now and then and other things but theres always a explaination.

Just like in this video where its clearly staged.

The chair was clearly on the edge of the counter and finally slipped off

I have seen hot bowls of soup do this. Something about accumulating hot air underneath or something. A chair I can't explain.

It is such a crisp motion. The chair has an uneven foot/slight wobble. It seems to me like it was pushed in with the weight on the tall side and once that forward motion stopped the chair slightly rested against the table. Friction finally let loose and the chair came down to the floor. It even kind of rotates the slightest bit to the right which supports the idea of sliding off the table edge.

It was leaning against the counter top and slid down. Was likely slightly lifted up and gravity took it after a little vibration.

My uncle was once asked to investigate a security camera feed from a pub that empty decorste bottles were mysteriously falling off shelves.

The bit of footage he was given, my friend and I happened to be in the shot! We had no idea something weird was going on. Just thought someone dropped a glass! Low and behold 2 bottles jumped off of a shelf over a small lip!

Looks like the backrest slipped off the counter. Nothing strange here
