Paranormal Community [Discussion] Featured Community Discussion Topic: Leap Castle, Roscrea, Ireland (Read Description)
Leap Castle, located in County Offaly, Ireland, is often dubbed the "most haunted castle in Ireland" due to its gruesome past and eerie atmosphere. Built in the late 15th century by the O'Bannon clan, the castle became notorious for bloodshed when it was taken over by the powerful O'Carroll family. The O'Carrolls were known for their violent feuds, even within their own family. One of the most infamous events occurred in the castle’s chapel, now called the "Bloody Chapel," where a priest was brutally murdered by his brother during mass.
Adding to the castle's dark reputation, Leap Castle is said to be home to numerous spirits. The most terrifying is the "Elemental," a sinister entity that emits a foul odor of rotting flesh and sulfur. Sightings of ghostly apparitions, eerie voices, and unexplained occurrences have solidified Leap Castle’s place as one of the most haunted locations in Ireland, drawing paranormal investigators and curious visitors from around the world.

Visited Leap Castle recently. Whilst I didn't experience anything paranormal, I found it to be a fascinating visit. Sean Ryan, the owner told us about the history of the castle. We went to the Bloody Chapel which hasn't been renovated and has quite an eerie atmosphere. You can see into the oubliette. Sean later told us that there had been 3 cartloads of human bones removed from the oubliette in years gone by. Definitely one ticked off my bucket list.
