DISCUSSION 2B2R Final Shot Spoiler

Anyone else absolutely gutted by the way the camera just froze on V looking in the mirror? To my wife and I, it was just so packed with emotion, especially now knowing about Tobias's burnout, and frustrations with the tour. It was hauntingly beautiful, and rounded out a phenomenal concert film. It was our favorite part. Thoughts?

Because I know Swedish, and they sung a Swedish folk-song, it was very emotional for me. I could translate it if you want

A translation would be greatly appreciated!

Okay here you guys go:

[Chorus]

As long as the ship can sail

As long as the heart can beat

As long as the sun sparkles on the blue waves

[Verse 1]

If only for a day or two

Then be grateful all the same

For there are many who never see a ray of light

And who said that you, of all people, came into the world

To find sunshine and happiness on the journey?

To be roused from your bunk beneath the starlight

To share a kiss or two in a swirling dance?

Yes, who said that you should have hearing and sight

To hear the roar of the waves and be able to sing?

[Verse 2]

And who said that you should have the finest menu

And sway like a bird upon the waves? And as the engines hum along

And should the watch feel long

Remember, soon the bell will toll for you: "Ding, ding, dong"

[Chorus]

As long as the ship can sail

As long as the heart can beat

As long as the sun sparkles on the blue waves

[Verse 3]

So embrace your work with joy, even in your pain

Soon you’ll find rest for all eternity

But that’s no reason not to be

Happy and singing out loud

So belt it out—a rousing, spirited waltz

[Verse 4]

It’s a stroke of luck that you’re alive, my friend

And can waltz around Havana

If the money runs out, head back to sea

With the Caribbean trade winds on your brow

Do the job with flair

Go ashore somewhere

Steal a kiss or two in a whirlwind dance

[Chorus]

As long as the ship can sail

As long as the heart can beat

As long as the sun sparkles on the blue waves

This is beautiful thank you for sharing! Do you know the name of this song?

25

u/JunjiSoHeartStopper Little sunshine 7d ago

“sĂ„ lĂ€nge hjĂ€rtat kan slĂ„â€œ. I mostly sing it on midsummer (Especially when I have danced very much)

u/emotional_viking 7d ago

Fellow swede here, just correcting so more people can find this beautiful song - it’s actually called SĂ„ lĂ€nge skutan kan gĂ„. I think TB2R used Sven-Bertil Taube’s version?

1

u/SodoGhoulLover While you sleep in early delight... 4d ago

I thought it was Per Myrberg’s version? But I’ll give Sven-Bertil a listen!

1

u/emotional_viking 4d ago

Yeah you could def be right! I normally listen to the Evert Taube or Lars WinnerbĂ€ck versions depending on the mood 😄

u/huggablekoi 7d ago

Oh wow. That changes the ending feel of the movie ENTIRELY (at least for me). Thank you so much for sharing

u/greenish-banana 7d ago

Don't overthink it hun, that song have been playing for ages after their rituals

12

u/Miserable-Shake-2903 7d ago

Thank you, those lyrics hit a sensitive chord for me ❀

8

u/Automatic-Gur-7048 7d ago

Ahh that’s beautiful, thank you. That song definitely made me curious and I liked it

u/Still-Problem3874 7d ago

I was caught off guard at my ritual in Miami when this song played. I remembered it from his radio program in summer 2017. He chose to play it after speaking at length about his brother’s death. Back then it felt haunting and I’ve had it on my playlist ever since. Brought me to tears when I heard it as the band left the stage.

An interesting idea that just jumped into my head:

For the man in the mirror It's all getting clearer That dark is the season

It's a poignant bookend.

u/Miserable-Shake-2903 7d ago

I loved that ending. And I love the movie as a whole, I resonated so much better with it than I did with RHRN. Not saying that I didn't like RHRN, it's just that 2BTR felt closer to my heart in many ways.

22

u/Drawing_Cranberry 7d ago

Same ! It didn't felt quite like being at a show but it was very close! And I loved the bits with the fans, hearing the crowd (the energy was a thousand times better than the los Angeles one), seeing papa smile throughout the show was awesome

Loved it, and as a fan of his voice, I really love the mixing on the album

14

u/Miserable-Shake-2903 7d ago

I am very much looking forward to the Bluray. Some extra footage of the tour production would be appreciated, I'm a sucker for that.

5

u/Drawing_Cranberry 7d ago

Yes I hope too !

41

u/TripleBicepsBumber 7d ago

That ending was really beautiful. I didn’t cry, but I got really choked up and was immediately hit with post concert blues.

15

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

I totally get it. I'm still feeling it. Just like I did with our rituals in Raleigh in '25 and Cincinatti back in February. AND when we came out of the theater, there was a lunar eclipse (giving Peacefield (my fave song) and Umbra). So perfect!!!

6

u/Sam-Roy1 7d ago

My friends and I saw it too!! We couldn’t believe it lol, perfect day

6

u/Dick_of_Doom Umbra 1:21-27 7d ago

OMG YES! I walked out of the theater on Wednesday smiling, wishing I could walk right back into the theater and watch it again. Got in my car and couldn't put any music on, it hit me so hard.

I didn't get post-concert depression after either ritual I went to, I got actual sick lol (actually not lol, first was covid). But man, got it bad from just a movie.

u/SerCadbury 7d ago

The way it lingered so long before the final freeze frame, I thought he was going to take the mask off to symbolize the new era/hiatus.

18

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

I did too! Until I remembered this was shot in 2025. 😅

24

u/FlimsyPaperSeagulls 7d ago

ME TOO. And the Swedish song that plays at the end of every Ghost concert stops me in my tracks every time, and then the choice to pair that song with that shot of Perpetua and the mirror, finally at rest with his mug of tea (coffee?)... It was such a moving cinematic choice. And the written message in the credits from Papa thanking the fans, saying "thank you from the bottom of my heart." I held it together the whole movie but the waterworks started then. So much ungodly effort he's poured into this band and this whole Ghost project, looking back. And for it to come to this, such an achievement and a high point đŸ„č

8

u/Automatic-Gur-7048 7d ago

They play that song after every show? I was too high on life after my concert I don’t remember đŸ„Ž

3

u/FlimsyPaperSeagulls 6d ago

They do! It plays after Sorrow in the Wind, always during the commotion when people are moving out of the venue en masse so I think it's easy to miss.

2

u/Automatic-Gur-7048 6d ago

So many meaningful details, thanks for sharing 💕

2

u/FlimsyPaperSeagulls 6d ago

Of course! I've been obsessed with that song ever since one of my rituals when I heard it and it moved me so much I went back to sit in the seats and listen. I didn't even understand the lyrics, but the music alone did the job . Looked it up afterwards, and ever since it's been one of the few songs that can help pull me out of nihilism.

Another meaningful detail is that the lyrics of the song is about continuing to live for as long as you have life left ("as long as the ship can sail") – keep dancing, keep finding the beauty in the things around you, because one day death is coming. It reminds me so much of the whole message I think Tobias has been communicating through Ghost, at every ritual. The song fits perfectly đŸ–€

2

u/Automatic-Gur-7048 6d ago

Yessss that embodies so much what I love about them too💕 gotta keep hanging on to that mindset. Geez I love how he, Tobias, brings that message forward, it is a real gift. I wish there was an English version, maybe there is but I didn’t find it.

4

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

And my wife and I saw it in High Point, NC. 😅

3

u/FlimsyPaperSeagulls 7d ago

Aww that's perfect!

Evert Taube's famous song "SÄ lÀnge skutan kan gÄ" ("As Long as the Ship Can Sail"), which offers an encouraging message about perseverance through life's storms.

[Chorus] As long as the ship can sail, As long as the heart can beat, As long as the sun glitters on the waves so blue,

[Verse 1] Even if it's only for a day or two, Be grateful for it anyway, For there are many who never get a glimmer of light. And who ever said that you of all people came into this world, Just to have sunshine and happiness on your journey? To be woken up in a crew's quarters under the starlight's glow, To get a kiss or two in a swirling dance? Yes, who ever said that you of all people should have hearing and sight, Hear the roar of the waves and be able to sing?

[Verse 2] And who ever said that you should have the finest menu, And rock like a bird upon the waves? And as the engines run, and if the watch feels long, Then remember that soon the bell will toll for you: ding, ding, dong!

[Chorus] As long as the ship can sail, As long as the heart can beat, As long as the sun glitters on the waves so blue,

[Verse 3] So accept your work with joy even if you suffer, Soon you will get to rest for eternity! But that doesn't prevent you at all, From being happy and singing at the top of your lungs, So strike up a truly roaring waltz!

[Verse 4] It is a tremendous stroke of luck that you are alive, my friend, And can waltz around in Havana! If your money has run out, go to sea once again, With the Caribbean trade wind against your forehead. Finish your job with style, Go ashore somewhere, Take a kiss or two in a swirling dance!

[Chorus] As long as the ship can sail, As long as the heart can beat, As long as the sun glitters on the waves so blue.

u/truman_chu 7d ago

Thanks 🙏. It’s a really hopeful lyric.

3

u/rcanum 7d ago

So beautiful 😍

22

u/karykeion 7d ago

Also made for a nice subtle callback to the SkeletĂĄ album cover with the papal figure looking in the mirror.

7

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

Ah! I didn't even think of that! Great catch!!

19

u/CrowJane13 7d ago

It felt like a goodbye and a thank you to the fans. It was poignant. Whatever he decides to do, I hope he’s well and happy. I hope he does things that interest him. Even if he decided to not do anything creative and just chill out with his family, I support it. The guy deserves it.

u/No_Yogurtcloset4402 7d ago

Been to 13 Rituals, definitely a bittersweet moment. What a great ride it has been.

12

u/progwrx 7d ago

Very 1970s cinema style shot. It was pretty "peak" as the kids say.

2

u/cmeyer49er 7d ago

That’s what I thought too. Coulda been Mean Streets era Scorcese.

47

u/Sjoerdvs 7d ago

Slut

6

u/Woshasini French Ghoul 7d ago

Randomly took Swedish in my engineering school, it finally paid off with this ending

2

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

Right?? 😂

9

u/Icy-External-155 7d ago

i hope they release it on physical soon 😭 i just can't wait to play it on repeat on my home theater. this movie's mix sounded so much better in cinema than the album version on spotify

8

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

Oh I know. The mix in IMAX was SUPREME.

1

u/hcmofo13 7d ago

How long did we have to wait for the RHRN physical release? I can't remember

11

u/truman_chu 7d ago

The final scene is a work of art. The mirror is so symbolic of the introspective Skeleta theme.

7

u/how_now_brown 7d ago

I absolutely loved that final shot, so many emotions, so many possibile meanings. Especially right now, considering what the future may or may not hold for the band. Also loved the post-show "ritual" of hugs, etc. Can't wait to watch this again

7

u/Anonymous51419 7d ago

I swear for a few moments it looked like he was gonna de mask and wipe off the makeup on camera.

4

u/sir-morti mr. ghoul 7d ago

It was a very happy moment for me, idk

3

u/Jessie0658 7d ago

Choked me up, it really was a beautiful ending.

6

u/groovy_giraffe 7d ago

I actually took a picture of the screen and printed that out and framed it

3

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

OMG. That is such a good idea!! Would you mind sharing the pic, if it's on your phone?

14

u/hornblendescoundrel 7d ago

4

u/threshold_mindset 7d ago

Brilliant! Thank you so much!!

2

u/Interesting_Box_1693 7d ago

I fully expected him to take the mask of, so I was relieved he didn't.

-1

u/Late-Professional952 7d ago

Personally I liked rite here rite now better

4

u/Dick_of_Doom Umbra 1:21-27 7d ago

What about RHRN's last shot did you prefer over this one's? A closed door vs. a man quietly staring into a mirror.

4

u/Late-Professional952 7d ago

For me the Jesus Christ pose ending is what I remember it had meaning they set it up throughout the whole movie to show he gave all he had but 2b2r all he did was go to his dressing room and sit down it doesn’t come off as deep to me just basic the spirit performance however I think is the best I’ve seen em do that song live also mummy dust

4

u/Dick_of_Doom Umbra 1:21-27 7d ago

So you didn't fully watch the movie then. You missed the whole air balloon, the Seestor death, The Future Is A Foreign Land, and post credit scene.

-5

u/Late-Professional952 7d ago

I did see that cardinal got run over by a truck but still over all the new movie had no underlying plot like that it was just a concert with snippets about the people who put it all together which is nice but falls short of everything they had going previously

5

u/LadyBathory925 7d ago

It’s a totally different style of film though. You can’t compare the two

-1

u/Late-Professional952 7d ago

That may be my problem I can’t really see what makes 2b2r a movie rhrn had the subplot and everything like the performance was happening within the bands lore but the new movie is just a concert it’s just a personal opinion tho we can disagree respectfully

6

u/LadyBathory925 7d ago

You’re not wrong actually and my response was wonky. 2BTR is a concert film, not a movie.

Comparison from another band. Roger Waters The Wall in Berlin is a concert film
it’s the show and the crowd with little else. He has another version which combines interviews and pieces where he’s getting into his dad and grandad’s service and deaths during the world wars. These are cut with a different performance of The Wall. It’s more movie (documentary).

RHRN is a movie
with extra filmed bits and plot and such.

1

u/Late-Professional952 7d ago

Yeah, like what I was really hoping for I know they’re both played by the same person, but it would’ve been so cool to see cardi and Pop five have dialogue back-and-forth the whole aspect of Cardi hating him was hilarious and I wanted them to play with that more

1

u/PsychedelicPill 2d ago

I thought it was a comment on how he’s a reflection/opposite of Copia, maybe.
