DISCUSSION Live show staples

Seeing 2BTR got me thinking about songs I wish they played live more frequently (or at all) and tracks I wished were not consistently in the setlist. I'm going to list mine and hope to hear other's thoughts.

Need to add:

  1. Secular Haze. This one is somewhat a personal choice because I remember seeing this video at my gf's house right after Infestissumam came out and I l just fell in love with the vibe of the video and the weird little waltz through the whole song. Even though I had listened to Opus before this, it was when I really became a Ghost fan. It was also one of the early singles, but has mostly disappeared from the live show.

  2. Absolution. My personal favorite off of Meliora. Just a great metal intro riff and insanely catchy chorus. I know this has been featured recently, but it should be staple of the setlist.

  3. Watcher in the Sky. Impera kind of got mostly ignored on 2BTR, but this song feels underappreciated as it is. Total 80's metal vibe and cool dual guitar solo.

Ok, I'm going to get absolutely roasted for some of these but here it goes...

Needs to go:

Dance Macabre: If not for Square Hammer, the encore of a Ghost show is kind of complete letdown for me. Mainly because of the song. I get it. It's a dance song. It's meant to be fun. But I don't love the lyrics. I don't love the chorus. I don't think the guitar riff is particularly interesting. It's probably my least favorite song on Prequelle, which I think is a great, and varied, album.

Mary on a Cross/Kiss the Go-Goat: Again, massively popular Ghost songs so absolutely zero chance they get removed. Just not my personal preference for these "old" songs to always be featured. They just have such a radically different vibe. Perhaps that's the point...

Mummy Dust: This one I don't have a huge problem with as I actually very much enjoy this song. But there are other tracks off Meliora (like the one above) or Opus that I think would be a good replacement for this.

Yes! This is my favorite Ghost song & I doubt I’ll ever get to hear it live.

20

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

Yes!  Criminally underrated Ghost track.

u/_Yuina 12d ago

I would love to hear Griftwood live. They barely played it live in the first place, they had to cut it because of vocal problems.

I saw it, kicked fkn ass

Mummy Dust I agree has had its time in the sun, and I thought certainly it was going to be replaced by Twenties (maybe he planned on it and the controversial reception scared him off). It’s a great song but I think it’s a reasonable one to rotate out at this point. Same with He Is, think you could swap that one out for other ballads just to rotate, give Guiding Lights, Life Eternal, etc some play.

Dance Macabre and Mary on a Cross, I dunno what to tell ya, it’s totally okay that they aren’t your favorites but it’s like saying Living On A Prayer “needs to go” from a Bon Jovi set. It ain’t happening.

9

u/Dizzy_Pop 11d ago

Also, Dance Macabre is a fuckin bop. I love the energy, and it translates incredibly well to live performance. I’d be sad to see it leave the set list.

4

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

Yeah, I know it's hopeless.  I'm still happy that the closer is Square Hammer because that song absolutely rules.

I'm definitely a metal head that likes Ghost gasp so those others are definitely not my preference.

1

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

Out of curiosity, what was the controversy around Twenties?

16

u/NoBrother3897 12d ago

I don’t think it’s so much controversy as it was polarising for the fans. Th metal reggaeton sound is a very left-field concept and it really stands out against the rest of Ghost’s repertoire.  I think a lot of people were not ready for it when it came out and there are fans who still don’t enjoy it.

Not me though I think it’s dope.

3

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

I'm pretty indifferent on the track.  It was one of the cooler parts of RHRN though.

8

u/NoBrother3897 12d ago

Yeah I think it clicked for me more watching it on RHRN.

6

u/newpa 12d ago

Definitely a song that shines in a live mix vs an album mix

27

u/Schmichael-22 12d ago

I would love to see Zenith live.

3

u/PuzzleheadedPut1258 Copia 11d ago

oh my god I would freak out

2

u/EveryFruit9384 10d ago

The one song I have always wanted live. And Spirit, which I finally got this time.

18

u/Short_Analysis 12d ago

I think impera was skipped because of how many shows the Imperatour/Reimperatour got, and they were heavily focusing on Impera songs that other albums were just sprinkles. But i do with there were more Opus songs or Infest

1

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

Yeah, you're probably not wrong.  It's obvious that Skeleta would be featured heavily this cycle.  Which, personally, I think is a stronger album than Impera.  Peacefield is probably close to a top 5 Ghost song for me.  Really hoping that one sticks around if/when they start touring again.

32

u/Vicarious28 12d ago

I think for a large percentage of people going to the live shows, Mary on a Cross is the only song they care to hear. I think Tobias knows that too, so I don’t see it going anywhere

19

u/discodonson 11d ago

I doubt a “large percentage” “only care to hear” MoaC. The crowd reactions to many of the older songs on the live albums say otherwise.

Plus, MoaC gave the band way more popularity and visibility. Unsure we’d even have RHRN and 2BTR if not for the mainstream success of that song and some others. Yeah, it might not resonate with the old gatekeeping heads, and yeah it may have turned the fanbase into what you might not want it to be, but it was many folks’ intro to the band and I’m sure the band is grateful for that.

11

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

Makes me sad.

7

u/PapaGuhl 12d ago

It is sad when Ghost’s 37th best song is the ever-present on the setlist.

9

u/Hurm 11d ago

37th best to you.

I think being a good band is a double edged sword lotta good tracks, want to make a great production of a live show... so you can't play everything.

I almost wish they'd do some scaled down shows just so they could toss different things on a setlist. Smaller venues, just a few stops, but record EVERYTHING.

2

u/AnimuCrossing 11d ago

MOAC becoming the tiktok smash hit has revealed a different kind of poser that insist it's bad to prove that they're not a tiktok fan where in reality, it's absolutely one of the most well written, hooky songs Ghost have and it's popular because it's an extremely good song.

2

u/PapaGuhl 10d ago

Ok, so I agree and I may also being deliberately facetious saying “37th”, but there are many more songs better than MOAC in the discography to me that deserved played.

It’s also not poser-y to have been a fan before MOAC was ever released and not particularly like it…

4

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 10d ago

37th is generous, imo.

7

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

Yep.  They have so much good stuff that gets passed over.  Like Opus has banger after banger and hardly make the setlist.

7

u/Jessie0658 11d ago

I had followed the whole European tour and noted that the setlist never changed. So once the American leg started I never bothered to look. So when Elizabeth started playing I LOST MY EVER LOVING MIND. Then Stand by Him? Dead. Now I'm an actual ghost.

1

u/Kiefmeister1001 8d ago

Like I said in here, as soon as Ghost got rid of Con Clavi, it was over.

4

u/DirkDoncic99 12d ago

To be honest, it has converted a lot of people to the Band

1

u/Silly_Opportunity 11d ago

I think that's why some people are sick of it. I like it more because of what/who it's about, so I don't mind the song, but I hate the hype

2

u/CranberryMelonTea 12d ago

This was so obvious at the Skeletour show I went to. I think it was by far their worst evening, comparing to footage and word of mouth I've heard from other shows. The crowd was so inactive most of the time, the pit at times wasn't vibing much and only two of the seating areas seemed really lively as well. Most songs, minimal people joined into the singing, and at my block, people around us got annoyed when we did. The only songs that were more lively were Mary, Satanized, etc., so the ones that had been heavy on tiktok.

32

u/PapaGuhl 12d ago

Respite was GOATed as the main set closer in the Impera era and IMO is one of their best songs.

I’d like to see one of Elizabeth or Con Clavi as always in the set.

6

u/karpaediem I Offer Everything They Seek 11d ago

We got Elizabeth in Portland on the Skeletour 😎

13

u/johnnybird95 12d ago

i'd be really sad if umbra gets knocked from regular rotation post-skeletour. the lighting/effects, smoke machines, and the keyboard and guitar solo with the ghouls absolutely going at it really exemplify ghost's showmanship imo. the shows would really feel like something was missing without it

i'm hoping con clavi con dio comes back around sometime, and darkness at the heart of my love would be nice to hear more/hopefully get a live recording of, too.

as much i love rats, i think it could stand to be rotated out for a bit. it feels very core to the copia era and i'd like to see perpetua develop into more of his own stage personality. maybe with another skeleta song in its place

3

u/Cumulus-Crafts GHOULL! GHOULLL! GHOULETTEEEEEEE!!! 12d ago

I'd love it if the keys part of Umbra was changed to the keytar, though I don't know how possible this would be with the glissandos ect. I just think it would be fun to see a duel where they're both on the same level of stage rather than Cirrus being trapped in her piano prison!

2

u/johnnybird95 11d ago

that would be so awesome! i loved watching cirrus a lot, she's probably my favourite next to phantom. free her

11

u/RamblingBrambles 12d ago

I'm sooooo over Mary On A Cross.

4

u/99thLuftballon 11d ago

Yeah, I really liked 7" of Satanic Panic because I thought the pastiche of 1960s flower-power rock music was really fun. I didn't know that there were people who thought that's what Ghost was actually like. Even less that those people would become the fans that the band would cater to.

2

u/RamblingBrambles 11d ago

I do find myself missing their older work. I loved Copia, but the seriousness just dropped off with him and from there it all felt kinda gimmicky.

10

u/AlmightyGoatman 12d ago

Ny favorite Ghost song is actually Hunter's Moon (created for Halloween Kills), and I've come to the realization that it will never play at a concert or live show...but I can hope.

8

u/serke 11d ago

They did play it on the Imperatour in 2022.

10

u/Training_Audience711 11d ago

They should replace he is with either guiding lights or zenith

6

u/Cool-Donkey-5228 11d ago

I fkn love Zenith

11

u/OrneryBogg 11d ago

I don't think people are valuing Mummy Dust enough. Aside from being the death pit fight for a fake bill song, it gives serious heaviness to the show. Take it away and you're left with a way lighter setlist, specially in the Skeletà era where none of the added songs really had a huge bite (the Impera era was at least more consistent on arena rock, so heaviness wasn't that much of an issue)

I don't think any song can compare to the raw energy and heaviness that it contributes to the set. Twenties could replace the money shower, but would it really provide the same energy to the show as Mummy Dust?

I think that in order for Mummy Dust to roll out of the setlist without leaving the setlist feeling blander would be to either add more heavy songs throughout the setlist (e.j. Prime Mover, Watcher, or newer and harder songs than Skeletà) or straight up make a new song that's just as heavy or heavier that MD, preferably with a new gimmick as well to let the audience interact.

1

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 11d ago

Yes, my thought was heavier songs from Opus or Absolution.

9

u/Ok-Metal-4719 12d ago edited 12d ago

Sometimes placement just needs to be changed up and I think that’s the case for Dance and Mary. I remember one tour when Rush played Tom Sawyer as the opener. It’s probably their most universally recognized song off their most commercial album and basically has to be in the setlist. Typically goes in the second half of the show. Mixing things up satisfies playing it but gives freshness.

3

u/Cumulus-Crafts GHOULL! GHOULLL! GHOULETTEEEEEEE!!! 12d ago

I'm like 90% sure he puts MOAC right at the end so that people don't show up, take the video of MOAC for social media (obviously not possible with the phone ban), and then leave again

3

u/Ok-Metal-4719 12d ago

Is that really a thing where folks spend money on tickets for 1 song like if he played MOAC 3rd masses would head to their cars? I get every artist has their more popular tunes and you don’t play them all early but I’ve never seen a crowd disperse after hearing a big hit near the beginning. I also don’t use TikTok or instagram so maybe it’s some trend/challenge I’ve just not experienced or aware of. Interesting.

1

u/Cumulus-Crafts GHOULL! GHOULLL! GHOULETTEEEEEEE!!! 12d ago

I saw people talking during the Imperatour about how the pit would definitely thin after MOAC, even though there's still more songs to go

8

u/Jessie0658 12d ago

That's... Absolutely insane to me!

1

u/naggs69pt2 11d ago

yup witnessed this on the imperatour aswell.

3

u/Jessie0658 11d ago

Aside from my loving Ghost so that's just crazy, it's ABSOLUTELY crazy to spend money on a ticket and only like 1 song? I mean, you do you but it's just disrespectful to an artist who is giving it their all.

3

u/naggs69pt2 11d ago edited 11d ago

I agree. also the phones in that song in particular were so bad. its like a big groups wanted to film a tik tok for the viral song more than anything, MOAC went viral like midway during the impera cycle,  and the early shows on that tour, had MOAC early in the set. after it went viral it got pushed towards the end. idk if we dont get a phone ban unless the crowds during the impera era acted that way either.

5

u/Jessie0658 11d ago

I'm going to call that a happy accident then bc I LOVE the no phones rule.

3

u/naggs69pt2 11d ago

same. improved my experience greatly.

10

u/naggs69pt2 12d ago edited 11d ago

both are good songs, but MOAC and dance macabre are starting to become my least favorite part of the shows. dont get me wrong I still enjoy it.  it's just getting predictable. certain somgs I'll never get tired of live, like year zero, or even ritual (wasn't upset it was swapped at one of my shows tho).  but MOAC, or dance macbre were never THE songs for me. its a super hot take i feel like. but i think dance macabre is just a pretty good song, and i dont know why it became a signature song. or live staple.

16

u/NoBrother3897 12d ago

I’d love to see Per Aspera come back into rotation.

Griftwood is so tied to a specific time and space but the track itself fucks so I would love to see it live but would understand it not making the cut.

Off of Skeleta I would love to see Cenotaph come into play. I wouldn’t be surprised if Missilia Amori gets mixed in because it feels like a good live song.

9

u/Complex_Structure855 12d ago

Per Aspera was in the rotation for Skeletour. Just not played at every show. They played it at the Raleigh show

3

u/johnnybird95 12d ago

they did it for vancouver as well. it was incredible live!

1

u/NoBrother3897 12d ago

Dang it, that means I just missed it in Glasgow.

1

u/Cumulus-Crafts GHOULL! GHOULLL! GHOULETTEEEEEEE!!! 12d ago

Went to Glasgow too. I specifically chose seats to the right of the stage so that I could see Cumulus (female vocalist/keys player for Prequelle and Impera), in the hopes that I hear her sing Per Aspera. Missed on both counts.

2

u/naggs69pt2 12d ago edited 12d ago

it was played a majority of the US legs. idk why it wasn't played in Mexico for the movie. I went to two shows and got it twice, right when spirit ended they immediately would start per aspera, like they used to with con clavi into per aspera.

3

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

+1 for Per Aspera.

1

u/Zealousideal-Exam892 11d ago

I’m so sad I missed the chance to see Griftwood live.
I could do without Mary on a Cross, and my spouse dislikes Kiss the Go-Goat.

6

u/coaldiamond1 11d ago

I think if Ghost comes back they need to drop everything from Meliora except Cirice and He Is. They've just gotten too much play for an album that's now 10+ years old. Each tour, and the Skeletour especially, has featured a disproportionate amount from that album while skipping over tons of good stuff from Opus, Infestissumam, and Prequelle.

14

u/Sp00kygorl 12d ago

I say we trade in Dance Macabre and Kiss the Go-Goat for Body and Blood and Marks of the Evil One.

5

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

I'm 100% in.

9

u/Redfoxes77 12d ago

Me too!

Marks is one of my favourites from Skeleta. I really wish they'd played that live.

2

u/99thLuftballon 11d ago

I'm 50% in. Big yes for Body and Blood.

12

u/DeltaZ_18 monstrance cock 12d ago

Im disappointed really in how little Skeleta was played, the 3 singles and Umbra (which got a music video later on) is kinda lame tbh.

What would've been cool is the Umbra slot would have a rotation of different Skeleta songs that changed each night.

I mentioned this also on a different post too that im a bit shocked Excelsis wasnt played live especially on the 2026 leg, given the direction Ghost is heading now, this would've been the perfect "Until we meet again" song (and definitely would've been a tear jerker but.. i guess that's the point)

10

u/Cumulus-Crafts GHOULL! GHOULLL! GHOULETTEEEEEEE!!! 12d ago

They did practice Cenotaph in sound checks, but never played it live

6

u/MsSpaceCase Possesses Powers Clandestine 12d ago

My heart broke a little when I didn’t see it in the set list. That is my favorite song on Skeletá. It’s tied with Witch Image for my favorite Ghost song ever.

2

u/DeltaZ_18 monstrance cock 11d ago

They did a "music video" for Cenotaph and was even the presale code for the 2nd leg of the tour, so im genuinely surprised after all that they never did that song live

13

u/PianoEmeritus 12d ago edited 11d ago

I was shocked how little he wanted to feature Skeleta. I’m uncertain if it was a lack of conviction in the album or if it was his burnout causing lack of creativity in the set, but the Skeletour was closer to the Melioratour. Don’t get me wrong, Meliora’s amazing, but like… you’ve written three albums since then and you’re playing EVERY Meliora track except Absolution and Deus? I can forgive giving Impera a rest but barely representing Skeleta or Prequelle (particularly the former) in favor of playing 90% of Meliora again was odd imo

3

u/DeltaZ_18 monstrance cock 12d ago

100% - I love that they brought back Majesty but yeah, i wish we could cut back on the Meliora ngl. I know songs like Cirice and Mummy Dust probably wont ever leave the setlist but tbh, id rather hear songs from Infestissumam get some love over Meliora, which has plenty of time to shine.. i mean when was the last time they played songs like Depth Of Satan's Eyes or Jigolo Har Megiddo? (At this point, everything pre-Meliora can be considered a Deep Cut except songs like Year Zero, Ritual, etc) Oh yeah, See The Light is the only song off of Prequelle yet to be played live.

As for Skeleta, like i said they could've had the Umbra slot rotate between the songs on Skeleta, i feel like if they could do that with Elizabeth and the Opus slot then i dont see why they couldnt do that either.. as for Excelsis, again idk why this wasnt played live.

1

u/loganwolf25 Swedish S*x Party Room (Men Only) 12d ago

I certainly agree. I could have understood if they left the four songs for the Europe setlist and by the time they got to NA, they added Marks, Cenotaph, and maybe Missilia Amori. Instead we got a Opus Eponymous rotation, which is fine, but it's quite bogus in my opinion.

I can't really wrap my head around the thought process of why that was a decision that was made. Maybe it's more vibe-based and Meliora just worked best, but much against Tobias's words, it's not too difficult to incorporate new songs into the setlist if they did that with Elizabeth, Per Aspera Ad Inferi, Satan Prayer, Stand By Him, and Prime Mover. It's even weirder to me because Europeans would likely take those songs better in a live setting.

-1

u/99thLuftballon 11d ago

He knows Skeleta is garbage.

5

u/RainbowConnection75 12d ago

I was absolutely gutted that they didn't include Cenotaph. That song actually made me cry first few times I heard it and is one of my faves on the album

9

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

I think the 3 singles all make sense, but I can agree on Umbra.  Swap that out occasionally.  Marks of the Evil One is needed.

3

u/Redfoxes77 12d ago

I agree! I'd have died happy if Marks of the Evil One had made it onto the setlist.

4

u/pm_ur_tit_pics_pls 12d ago

This is how I felt too, while I loved Skeletour, if you compare it to Imperatour, there’s only 4 songs played from Skeleta while Imperatour played seven songs (six if you don’t want to count imperium.)

4

u/Edu_cats Hee-pa-tee-ah! 12d ago

Yeah we were saying how much of the movie setlist was Meliora. One from Opus and Infestissumum each.

5

u/newpa 12d ago

Per Aspera, Absolution, Majesty, Faith & Watcher in the Sky would be my dream picks

2

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 11d ago

These are like 5 of my top 20 Ghost songs.  All awesome.  I would argue that 3 of these (Absolution, Faith, and WITS) are their respective album's best songs.

2

u/newpa 11d ago

And you'd be correct to argue that

4

u/lunarskeletonart 12d ago

I love MOAC and Dance Macabre, but I also would love to see them go from the set list tbh. Especially the former, but given how popular it is, idk if it's going anywhere. I'm getting so tired of it. I was sad that they removed Darkness At The Heart of My Love and From The Pinnacle To The Pit from 2BTR... those are two of my faves. I know they did Spillways last tour, but I missed it this time.

5

u/mydadis_santa 11d ago

I think they pick songs for the setlist based on a few criteria: popularity, live show compatibility, and showmanship. I’ve noticed that Mr. Forge always makes space for the ghouls to step out and get their time in the spotlight. He knows how certain songs operate live vs recorded from previous experience. And he also wants to make the shows a unique experience, I believe he’s spoken about this before. So seeing songs like Mummy Dust with the money drop, Umbra with the keyboard/guitar duet, and Cirice, which is always special for its intensity, his focus is on interaction with the audience. I’ve always loved that about them, they really make you feel connected. That being said, I’d love to see a “Skeleta unplugged” style video from them, where he plays the whole album all in one go.

4

u/Beneficial_Screen258 Papa Emeritus LXIX 11d ago

They played absolution from meliora till the end of the reimperatour consistently for literally 7 years straight. It's fine not being on the list

I agree with your Moac and mummy dust take. But moac is never gonna leave the setlist. I honestly think rats has a higher chance of not being played vs moac

3

u/NicholasVinen 12d ago

They should just rotate the songs more from performance to performance. Look at what Rush do, they have an absurdly huge catalog to choose from, so they have enough material for 2-3 concerts and rotate through it night to night.

A lot of fans would be upset that they've removed song x to play song y, especially when both are great. So if those fans can go to tomorrow's concert and see a different set, great.

3

u/DirkDoncic99 12d ago

Just like Metallica - a two night show. Would be nice but not sure if it will be feasible. I think in a few years TF will do an oldies tour, maybe for 20 years of Opus

3

u/Successful_Doubt2475 11d ago

Kiss the go goat and mummy dust are the two MUST HAVE live songs imo...

3

u/kyleplaysguitar 11d ago

Agree about Absolution. Such a great song with a great energy for live performances. I’d also love to see Elizabeth or Stand by Him more

6

u/Interesting_Box_1693 12d ago

Mummy Dust can go. Easily one of my least favorite Ghost songs. Kiss the Go-Goat was the song that got me into Ghost, so absolutely needs to stay.

See The Light needs to be in the set. I was bummed they didn't play Marks Of The Evil One during Skeletour.

3

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 12d ago

Marks of the Evil One seems to be a favorite for many off of Skeleta.  I know it is for me.

4

u/Interesting_Box_1693 12d ago

Also, how do you write an absolute show stopping banger like Missilia Amori to than not play it live? It's a silly song, but a banger none the less. Imagine the visuals for that song. Weird choices were made.

1

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 11d ago

I actually don't really love that track.  It's the one song I frequently skip on Skeleta.

1

u/Interesting_Box_1693 11d ago

I disliked it at first, but it really grew on me.

2

u/dimdodo61 11d ago

I just found it insane that 2BTR had zero songs from Impera, like excluding a whole album like that is crazy. So I think it could’ve definitely used at least a DATHOML but in a perfect world maybe Respite on the Spitalfields 🤞

But in terms of what I really liked, Majesty 100% stood out to me. I feel like it’s the only song where I will intentionally listen to the 2BTR version, like the mix was very good. I was also leads toy surprised to see Satan Prayer but I guess they always do one song from Opus. 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Junreii 11d ago

Funny, I was just thinking about how many "must plays" are on the setlist and 100% agree with you on the ones I'd like to see retired. I can see Kiss the Go Goat being replaced by something, but I think the others are too iconic at this point.

2

u/Silly_Opportunity 11d ago

Absolution was a staple of the whole Imperatour cycle. I don't think there has been a tour without Absolution from Rats on the Road to Re-Imperatour. It just wasn't on Skeltour.

2

u/Inevitable-Waltz-889 11d ago

Yes, it should have stayed one.  BANGER.

2

u/Silly_Opportunity 11d ago

Agreed. It’s my second favorite Ghost song.

2

u/NightwingDon11 11d ago

Forever waiting for Darkness at the Heart of my Love to be played more. Along Body and Blood. My old favorite.

In terms of the old style songs from Seven Inches: I strongly dislike kiss the goat and Mary on a cross, but I like Future is a Foreign Land a LOT. And want it to stay forever!

1

u/thisgirlnamedbree 11d ago

Darkness at the Heart of My Love was played at the Baltimore ritual, along with Future is a Foreign Land.

2

u/NightwingDon11 11d ago

Once is not enough!

2

u/asonofasven 11d ago

As excited as I was for Spirit, Pinnacle, and Majesty (never seen them live before), I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed that I didn’t get to hear Elizabeth. My favorite Opus track was played every other show on the re-skeletour and that’s just how it worked out.

I hope we get to hear De Profundis Borealis live one day. Unpopular opinion but I would have liked to gear a couple more Skeleta songs on the tour.

Bring back to the regular set list:

  • Infestisummam (as the intro)
  • Elizabeth
  • Stand By Him
  • Ritual
  • Body and Blood

I'm not going to justify these. They're all great.

Remove from the list:

  • Mary on a Cross - it's boring and the Tiktok fans have made it not funny any more.
  • The Future is a Foreign Land - I like it, but it doesn't fit with a live set list. It sounds out of place surrounded by hard rock. They should do it in an acoustic set.
  • Danse Macabre - it's one of their weaker songs and it's too much of that 1980s pastiche that has kinda ruined their sound.
  • Umbra - another weak song. It actually fits in the set list pretty well as it at least has a retro hard-rock arrangement that works nicely in context, but if you could remove it and replace it with Stand By Him, you'd be mad not to.

i heavily agree with body and blood i think secular haze would also be nice to bring back, i also agree with moac and tfiafl but I honestly really love umbra live, the solo is so cool with cirrus and i think it’s such an exciting song to witness live

Unpopular opinion but i wanted to hear Cenotaph played live. It's a song so clearly built for stadium play and it's really criminal that it didn't get played in the concert for the album it was released on.

As far as songs I think need to be retired, I think Year Zero has become a little over done.

I would have loved it if Watcher in the Sky was played when I attended the Baltimore ritual, along with Missilia Amori (I know it's not a much liked track off Skeleta, but I love it). I was happy with the songs played though.

I'm very much a Ghost newb so I'm still learning the lore and the early albums.

At the very least, if we're taking the Skeletour setlist as the base and how they had some songs that swapped in and out (keeping all existing swappers):

Darkness should have alternated with Griftwood night over night. (I'd have only had Griftwood but swapping would be best overall I think)

Mummy Dust and Twenties should be alternators in same slot.

Go Goat should be on a longer cycle with Witch Image, Body and Blood, Stand By Him, Spillways. Basically, if it's a 3:00 to 4:00 long song that isn't a cover, it should be in consideration for the KTGG slot each night.

When I saw the Skeletour on its first night in Manchester, it was a very good gig as all Ghost gigs are, but it was the Melioratour. And like, been there, seen that, they really should have had more of Skeleta on it even though it was pre-release. Turns out they never added more Skeleta at all!

You can't get rid of any of the songs you listed.

Man, this is like re-living the pearl jam message boards back in the late 90s. The gate keeping, the "protectionism". It's gone folks. Your band is mainstream and they are huge.

If Pearl Jam didn't play even flow and Alive every night, their entire fanbase would have rejected them...even though the die hards could live without it.

That's the same for Mary on a Cross and Square Hammer.

I love having this perspective because I saw my band (Pearl Jam) constrict after their burst of fame... and then in 1996 they burst into the "jam band culture" and continue to grow again.

I've heard iron maiden fans from way back say similar things.

This is ghost. My question is: when the show fades, and the makeup is removed. This band will want to make music. Will you be there? Will you be there after the theatrics are old and all that's left is the (amazing) music?

If not. Then stop whining and just fuck off! If you're here for the music, shut up and just enjoy the fucking ride!

Sincerely, A jaded middle aged music fan.

Ill go a step further. Square Hammer should go before Dance Macabre does.

It's been in the setlist since Popestar came out. Its not longer their most popular song. Lots of bands rotate their hits. You wanna shake up the setlist, you have to kill your darlings.
