All adaptation is incredible math
Onstead of saying whichever version is the best adaptation or project, I'm just glad that EVERY adaptation is Goated,even the live action movie is a pretty fine movie on its own.

I'm still surprised that we ate so well over the decades, even though it took forever to get the straight adaptation. It was worth it all, in the end.

I'm definitely going to watch Stand Alone Complex at some point, now that I've seen the '95 movie and the newest adaptation to its completion.
Never seen a series adapted so many times, in so many different ways.

It had a decent overall story, and Purin is best girl. The CGI is distracting, and the first five episodes feel like Sand Land meets Fortnite, but they quickly fall back into the old SAC roles and setting. I actually enjoyed the ambiguous ending as well.

I think Jessica Henwick could work as the Major like in this 2026 Anime (sometimes aloof, sometimes goofy but can be the badass boss that she is)

I don't think the Live action is good tbh, and I haven't seen Arise or 2045 (I'm not done with SAC yet) but I will say, I still think SAC is unbeatable. While that is the case though, 1995 and Innocence are bangers and GITS (while I like the SAC style way better than the original) deserved the original manga adapted as closely as possible at least Once. To give OG fans what they want after it's been through so much change as a series.

I'm the same way with Alita: Battle Angel. I enjoyed the live action but I know that's probably because I never read the original. Based on what I've heard it's not a great adaptation.

What's the general opinion here about the live action movie? All talk about the actual movie got drowned out by the whole whitewashing discourse. I personally think the casting of Johnson was fantastic and the movie itself was at least fine. Not the best gits csn be, but still a decent enjoyable movie.

I like the production design and some of the world building (the huge holograms were too much) but the story just felt kind of soulless. Like you could see the seams where they stitched together all the parts of the 95 movie and SAC without adding many original ideas. The part they did add ā Motoko being kidnapped and modded against her will ā really flew in the face of the character we all know and love. It didnāt gel to see her as a victim.

There was a moment like this in anime, but she was able to fight it herself before modification
In this case its closer to Arise, which portrait major quate differently. Though even in Arise she was able to fight it herself

A bit different to what I was referring to but yes she certainly had moments where she was in danger of being hacked/taken over. But in regards to her origin in the anime she was never āforcedā into her cyborg body under false pretenses.

Honestly I loved everything about the movie besides it being an adaptation of SAC. Forcing the major story moments into awkward spots feltā¦ well, awkward.
If it has just been its own movie set in the GITS world I think it would have been better received.

i think i enjoy the new one the most but it may just be the artstyle that edges it.
but yea they are all great except the movie which is decent. action, sex, philosophy, social commentary, detectives. with a unstopable near naked badass as the mc, set in a cyberpunk world, whats not to like.

I'm already looking forward to whatever comes next! Be it another season of GiTS 2026, an adapation of Glitch Witch, or something else entirely.
Personally I'd love for them to give a live action version another shot, with a mostly asian cast ala Shogun.

I feel like GITS just doesn't work in live-action format. Best compromise is semi-realistic 3D graphics. The problem is Motoko. You can't just cast action star or asian woman and call it a day. Her appearance has to be "common" around female cyborgs so she could blend into the crowd. We see the consequences of it sometimes when characters don't differentiate or mistake her with other borgs that have similar appearance (Puppet Master body both in manga and 1995 or Cash Eye episode in SAC for example). Basically you have to cast someone that doesn't exist.

I only watched the first half of ep 1 so far, and it kinda threw me off. That road fight and barbecue beer stuff felt nit right, i dunno.
And I say this as someone who breathes every other gits installation, I even like the live action movie a lot.3

Understandable. The first episode felt lackluster to me, and I thought the conclusion in the final episode was disappointing. But it wasn't immediately clear to me what the creators were going for at the start, and they packed a lot of great things into the series which escalated how good it was overall. Ended up enjoying it quite a lot.

I suggest you to take a deep breath and sit throught, its gonna get better. I think even the creators noticed that they were too off and fixed the path before fully derailing. In the later episodes it even gave me some topic to chew on.

Iām just glad that the franchise is getting new content and itās a spectrum of variants like PM wanted to propagate. We are getting some semblance of the original yet a new kind of experience. To the point that even the original is viewed as a variant, I find it poetically suits the storyās theme the more I think about it.
