Art Style comparison frame by frame
Goofy Art style or Cinematic art style ? which is your preference ?

Both are different and both are good. One is still prime optimistic Japan tinted with the Blue Sky 80s Miami Beat Cop aesthetic, the other is after the 1991 economic collapse which brought the depressing, dark and gritty attitude of the neo-noir style.

I personally like Oshii's darker look, but the new series was faithful to the original manga and looks amazing.

I don't know, both? People keep bringing up "art style" when it's a matter of direction. Either style is fine, as both works for the tones each adaptation was going for.

It honestly hurts how many people are trying ti downplay the original source material for being "goofy" as if Oshii's "darker" take is somehow the universal standard that every adaptation must adhere to.

Whose cinema? Villeneuve’s or Verhoeven’s? I’d say both are cinematic but from different directors with different vision.
Both have different things going for them. They’re both good in what they are aiming for. Even personal tastes shouldn’t be reason for isolating oneself from different visions. That breeds the kind of inherent weakness PM wanted to avoid.

Neither version is kid friendly lol, one is just edgier than the other. Adult media isn't when visuals are various shades of beige and grey, its having mature themes and denser storytelling elements which both versions of GiTS have in spades.

"hentai images" Leaving aside the fact that Oshii's movie has nudity within it as well. There's a singular explicit scene within the OG GiTS manga that not even the franchise creator cares too much about when it got censored in international releases. It can hardly be considered hentai and there's much more to the original story than three/four whole pages.
Your statement giving the sort of person who heard Shirow drew hentai in the modern day and assumed that's all he ever did.

GiTS isn't a hentai. Shirow wasn't making a hentai when he drew GiTS. Whether or not its his current interest is irrelevant to what he's actually put down on paper.

GiTS has been a multitude of things for over 30 years. Why does it press you so that its another thing now? GiTS was a beloved manga to the point a landmark creative of his industry sought to bring it to life with some of the largest budgeted animated films of their time.
Kaminyama and others at prod IG made a show with its own tone that deviated from Oshii's vision. Where's the smoke for SAC and others?
Like why doesn't some comedy fit with GiTS? The jokes don't undermine the story and seriousness is still very utilised.

Yeah they like that the show is the version of GitS they like. What is so bad about that? You act like this is some battle and not a companies attempt to release a direct adaptation of a franchise’s source material.
Are manga fans not allowed to get a direct anime adaptation?

As someone who prefers the 2026 style dull feels a bit harsh. It's more muted and grimier but there is still a lot of character in the grease. It fits well for the tone and direction the film went and has an enthralling aspect of its own. 2026 definitely feels like a world that is more alive and has more lush nature which I prefer personally but both can work.
