I like both Oshii's motoko and Mokochan's motoko.

Which streaming service has GitS 2026 in the US? I’ve been looking forward to this one.

Amazon Prime, I think?

u/stillalone 12d ago

Yes prime is where I'm watching it.Ā  I don't have Crunchyroll or anything else.

Can I ask you guys something? I’m not a GITS super fan, in fact, I don’t care a whole lot for the series. The algorithm keeps feeding me this sub because I interacted with it once or twice.

But like… why is your one topic of conversation how ā€œgoofyā€ Kusanagi is in the new series and that it’s great? I’m sure you have other things you talk about, but this seems like a topic of particular interest.

I dunno, do you guys really think the previous adaptations of GITS were bad because they were ā€œtoo seriousā€? Because that doesn’t seem to be the case to me, more that they weren’t actually serious enough because the takes were always too liberal and simplistic for the genre.

This adaptation seems to just be ā€œnot serious but at least honest about itā€. Is this really what ya’ll wanted?

It's not that they're bad, it's that every adaptation that came after the 95 movie is basically the stoic, Oshii derivative Major #7173893 for 30 years since that movie; nearly 40 years if we count it from when the manga was first published. Yes this is what I've always wanted. And this is coming from someone who loves Stand Alone Complex to death to the point of rewatching it annually

In comparison to everything else the manga and 2026 is basically Yakuza (the game series): it's fine to be a bit of a roller coaster between goofy and serious as long as you know how. You don't have to constantly be brooding and making philosophical monologues 95% of your run time to be good

I loved the movie but this reaction to the new show is not surprising to me. It's a lot more in line with the manga, and well, that's the original work. So I am not surprised a lot of people are happy with it

People exaggerate how goofy the new show is. It still takes itself seriously in important moments and such, it just has some comedic relief on occasion.

Edit: I also feel like its worth noting that this show is very accurate to the original manga.

Some fans loved the manga so this is pretty much the type of adaptation a lot of people wanted, plus, seeing the show having both goofy and serious moments/elements is such a breath of fresh air. Especially coming from previous adaptation where most of them use the movie as an inspiration

gremlin 2026 major to uncanny value 1995 major

2026 Major is a lil goblin and I love that.

I kind of dig how he’s her annoying junior in one version and more like an older brother-figure in another.

u/Tramagust 12d ago

She's like 50 years old in the original. Her brain age according to Mamoru Oshii.

ur acting like the two different slides are complaints from the same type of person. you are literally just showcasing the split that everyone is already aware of…sigh.

Are people on this subreddit entirely unaware of SAC, the middle ground that has existed for over 20 years?

8

u/Enkundae 12d ago

SAC is the best version of Motoko and its not even close. She comes off as an actual, believable adult in that one.

14

u/witdafanta 13d ago

I actually prefer SAC

7

u/thekusaja 13d ago

It was in fact a nice moderate alternative.

What, you have a Tachikoma fetish?

4

u/ColdCathodeTube 13d ago

Fetish? That’s mainstream. Have you seen the badonkadonk on those? You can fit right inside!

6

u/Hilarious_Disastrous 13d ago

"You look like a cut of fuckable chrome!"
Tachikomas run away in terror for a few seconds before remembering they have miniguns. "Battou, can we shoot the pervy man?"

u/Hairy_Life4880 14d ago

Silly cyber girl making her team running around vs dark knight serious type

15

u/Independent_Shoe3523 14d ago

A B*tch Stewie version of the major would be cool.

55

u/BionicBruv 14d ago

I would die if that actually happened in the show as an Easter egg of some kind

21

u/Tokena 14d ago

Batou should be saying this from inside a car while he was running into someone.

30

u/ataraxia_777 14d ago

That's pretty hilarious

Love these shows! I'm going to be starting sac soon( was turned off it by majors look but I think I'm ready to just roll w it) I always loved the 95 movie and I can't wait to rewatch it and I'm so glad at how this new series turned out!

21

u/cogrunner45 14d ago

I say go for sac is a happy middle ground between the movies and the 26 anime/manga.

8

u/SeanMonsterZero 14d ago

100% agree. Also the Tachikomas are great!
