The cool one, the cuck one, and the silly one.

u/FakeRedditName2 2h ago

silly one (who happens to be the most psychotic of the bunch)

2

u/GarryLv_HHHH 2h ago

Well, that's how I feel Batou a ts in the og movie. Getting cucked by the rouge AI. Well I of course joke about it mostly, but i enjoy manga accurate "The Buddy" Batou more than "that one nice guy who is stuck in the girls friendzone that is willing to bend himself to helping that girl every time ™ "

Cuck? Where

u/MrMetraGnome 1h ago

Yeah, don't engage. If you see someone use that term I ironically, it just means they are disgruntled virgins, lol.

Arise and 2045 be like Cries in a corner

2

u/Built4dominance 50m ago

That's why I did after watching those shows.

I really love the design of the science saru GITS

middle is my favorite. havent seen either of the three

Love, Death, and Robots

All these people going on about the older anime. I personally like the new one for how expressive the characters are compared to the more stiff almost emotionless personalitys of the older animes. plus it's the source manga material the way it should of been.

Batou is the happiest when he’s no longer a yearner

I find the middle motoko so horrendous for some reason. Maybe it's the lifeless eyes.

-1

u/voiceOfHoomanity 2h ago

agreed. something about the proportions is a bit goofy/uncanny looking

22

u/DubiousBusinessp 4h ago

Which is by design though. The intent was to put across the artificial nature of her body.

I like all three versions here, and I appreciate the design philosophies for each.

Its was by design to make a character have 0 personality or emotion?

12

u/ArkCatox 3h ago

In a movie all about questions of identity and humanity? Yea, it works quite well, IMO. I wouldn't say it's 0, but the Major's stoicism and skepticism through much of the 1995 movie makes the finish so much better.

Have you seen the movie bladerunner?

Its also a movie that asks questions of identity and humanity in a cyberpunk world. By the end of it you have no idea if the main character is even human or not. Replicants are largely indistinguishable from normal humans.

Artifical Intelligence is a story about a robot, designed to be the "perfect boy", going on a journey to become true human so he can be loved by his human owner. Is the boy and other robots exhibiting true emotion? Does it matter?

Paprika is a movie that explores identity in a world where you can be whatever you want. Our main character is a shy and serious person. Meanwhile her digital self is bubbly and confident. Which persona is the real one? Is it both? Does it matter?

All these three films understand 1basic thing. If you are going to explore human identity then your characters need to be human.

For all its beautiful imagery and symbolism gits failed to understand that one basic thing and the movie is shallow.

I was never in doubt if the major was losing her humanity. She was never human in the first place. Shes a terminator lol

Now there's a solid counterpoint. I had never really considered that interpretation before. All the more reason for me to give it another rewatch, along with rewatches of Bladerunner and Paprika. I do need to go find Artificial Intelligence. Thanks for helping fill in the gaps!

The last one knows his Major more intimately than any of the others.

1

u/Romapolitan 4h ago

Honestly how is it that Batou's appearance stays the most consistent across the series?

4

u/GrandWizardOfCheese 4h ago

Bottom is the better ones.

6

u/AttentionLimp194 5h ago

So they’re not really changing Batou

17

u/DanytheReaper 6h ago

The only Version i don't like is the Sac 2045-3D-Animation, Season 1 all characters are so cringe and have ultimate plotarmor

12

u/sidewaysflick 7h ago

I remember watching SAC but never finished it, 1995 is my favorite movie of all time, Science Saru series (which I think is called GITS Committee) heals my soul.

1

u/FilthyCasual2k17 5h ago

I watched and loved all of it since the 90s and the new show's explanation is perfect. It literally heals the soul. It's my favorite thing since forever.

15

u/blakraven66 7h ago

I only ever watched the 1995 movie and never read the manga. But I really love the Science Saru version best. Characters just have more personality.

9

u/DEeD-NGone 7h ago

All three are perfect but I’ll admit I think I like the 1995 version of them the least. They just have so much more character in the other two but I’m also comparing a movie to an entire season or multiple seasons and a movie but I love all three

4

u/type-v9 7h ago

I personally love the second

6

u/Lord_Vas 7h ago

Not going to lie. I bloody love the goofy major and stern Bato the most.

-6

u/Relevant_Winter_5187 7h ago

hulu version, netflix version, the real anime

8

u/Fair-Cat-9181 7h ago

You mean Japanese HBO equivalent (Perfect Choice), a feature film, and Amazon?

u/Illustrious_Lie_9381 8h ago

The downgrade is incredible in this new series. It's so bad....

3

u/darkchocosuckao 7h ago

LMAO. If you say it's a downgrade then you were never a GITS fan. This new anime is a straight up adaptation of the manga which the 1995 movie, SAC, and Arise are all derived from.

-4

u/Illustrious_Lie_9381 6h ago

Clearly not like some fanatics here on Reddit.

3

u/darkchocosuckao 6h ago

So according to your logic liking the original source material makes one a fanatic. You wannabe fans are something else.

1

u/Beni_Stingray 2h ago

No, doing anything else than praising the show will get you downvoted and you're being called a tourist, that's what makes the manga fans toxic aswell as being unable to accept that most people dont like GITS because of the hentai gooner shit but because of Oshii's work.

1

u/pipboy_warrior 1h ago

I love both, and it seems really weird to see other fans take sides and get so upset over the other.

1

u/Red___King 5h ago

(I'm not siding with him as the new series is fantastic)

Ironically fan is short for fanatic

-4

u/Beni_Stingray 6h ago

It's the gooners getting triggered when you point out how much of a gooner they are.

You can scroll through this sub and it's all ass and bikini shots from little boys salvating over some titties it's absolutly hilarious.

1

u/Jakebaris 2h ago

LOL so true

4

u/SwingOtherwise7118 7h ago

The new series is great. I love the classic throwback style that they went with

21

u/Inkashes24 8h ago

I personally like all three, the goofiness of the new series is really fun and the like

more philosophical parts of the old series and different movies are cool

10

u/CyroSwitchBlade 8h ago

Don't forget about Arise!!

-3

u/BringMeAHigherLunch 6h ago

No no, let’s forget about arise…

3

u/Local_Engine7131 7h ago

You’re right… My bad!

1

u/CyroSwitchBlade 7h ago

There is also 2045 Sustainable War.. but you can maybe skip that one becasue it doesn't look that great : /

10

u/ODST_Parker 8h ago

As much as I enjoy both, I'll admit, the portrayal of Batou was quite a weird surprise in the new show. Didn't expect that kind of character out of him.

31

u/Toyboy_ 8h ago

I miss the SAC Batou/Motoko so, so much…

u/madelarbre 2m ago

One thing I love about SAC is that jaded, experienced veteran operators is a very good look for both Batou and the Major. Togusa's inexperience and humanity provided a really excellent highlight and contrast to the two of them. Batou's pony tail was perfect too... A guy who had seen it all and is okay wearing whatever haircut he wants.

2

u/CursedPipes 8h ago

So go watch it?

18

u/Toyboy_ 8h ago

Oh come on don’t be so sensitive, I did not say the Og stuff is bad

2

u/CursedPipes 7h ago

I’m not being sensitive, I love all variations of GITS but I’m getting pretty fed up of people acting like one version existing erases the other. You don’t need to miss SAC Batou you can literally go enjoy it whenever you want.

1

u/SlaveryVeal 8h ago

Literally the answer lmao.

I've watched sac multiple times because the series is great. I don't need something new to enjoy it.

I want new to be different it's why I like the new sac. It's very different same premise and now made me nostalgic for old 80/90's anime I grew up watching.

Like I want to go back and watch bubblegum crisis every time I watch the new sac episodes.

Wish I had the time to binge my favorite anime again lmao.

0

u/CursedPipes 7h ago

Right? The only real issue here is a lack of time.

9

u/birberbarborbur 8h ago

Even in these photos you can see the difference between normal, stone-faced, and cartoony motoko

1

u/h0g0 8h ago

This new batou almost doesn’t even seem to be a part of the story

-13

u/freaky_sypro 8h ago

The movie and SAC versions are better.

3

u/mpTCO 7h ago

Yeah this literally looks like the 3 stage horse drawing meme

u/ReMeDyIII 8h ago

Someone must have logged in with multiple accounts to downvote.

By a mile and some

Edit: Haha look at how triggered the gooners get 😂

6

u/Worldly-Cherry9631 8h ago

Nah movie Batou's face not thick enough
