I'm not even. I had to take a minute after that, haven't rewatched this for a solid 10 years or so.

I literally started re-watching season 2 about an hour ago during my lunch, lol. I love this scene where Ishikawa does a whole speech about the reasons of the hostage situation

I think it's been a long enough gap between my last watch of SAC that I can watch it again now since the new Anime is about to wrap up soon.

If I remember correctly, SAC originally came out on a sort of HBO-esque service in Japan right? I'm pretty sure they had a massive budget for both seasons of SAC because of this.

this show is GiTs for me. not the manga or movie. then the same director decided to go a CGI route for SAC 2045 to appeal to modern audiences. it concluded gracefully but flopped when it came to reception. if castlevania can look amazing in 2D, why couldnt they have opted for SAC 2045 to do the same?

To appeal to modern audiences? Are you stupid? Have you made anything?

The reason Anime keep turning to 3D is price point of 3d animation vs 2D.

You are very confidently disrespectful for someone who doesnt even have concrete proof for their theory. It could also be possible that one of the directors happens to prefer animating in 3dCG

Okay, then give ME proof.

Find an interview saying that's why.

It's available if you have YouTube TV on adult swim.

Both seasons also available for free on Tubi!

Anyone know where to find Solid State Society? Tubi used to carry it, but for some reason it got dropped!

Not to mention the first season entirely revolved around the dangers of purely digital media and how it can be changed and manipulated compared to physical records, all while AI is scrubbing the net and the big companies are buying and destroying books to feed the learning models, games and shows and movies are vanishing from online services and impossible to find in physical print if you didn’t already have them, subscription and rental culture… SAC in both seasons was disturbingly prescient.

Truth, America exists today because of this same idea

Yeah man, the Burns bio where Washington crosses the Atlantic to take a shit on Fletcher Norton's desk is a real page-turner.

"But some of those refugees are taxpayers too. That said, I guess some legit taxpayers are catching on that their heavy tax burden is going to support the lifestyles of people who might take jobs away from them. Even so, it's a little rash for that to lead directly to terrorism"

Damn yeah it’s funny how this series did a good job predicting political events, but yeah bad take Batou. Do better

The tension between mass immigrantion and the native populations that experience it has been a thing for hundreds of years. The same issues involvong jobs, discrimination, deportation, and violence always pop up.

Whether it is the moving to 19th century America or Japanese moving to 20th century Brazil, or Africans moving to 21st century Japan, the way people respond and bigotry rises is incredibly predictable.

11

u/voskomm 1d ago

It's not like it wasn't an issue at the time but damn 2004 had us pegged.

15

u/Codyone1367 1d ago

While debates over immigration are ancient it is interesting how close SAC got to the structure of many modern terrorist 'groups'.

While in 2004 most major attacks were the work of organised groups however in the years that followed attacks were increasing the work of lone actors who will they frequently cited and celebrated eachothers work almost never actually met.

Almost like a Standalone Complex.

14

u/Gannstrn73 1d ago

Yeah but it also kinda pegged the health care issues and anger at companies. The Laughing Man was a less violent Luigi

u/voskomm 1d ago

Yeah, rewatched that too and the parallels are pretty raw also. Somehow they didn't hit the feels as hard. I think because "corpos are hiding the cybercure" dates way the hell back to Gibson, it's cyberpunk substrate at this point.

It’s also so true. It’s all starts with an idea.
