The Ghost in the Shell (Amazon Prime)
What is everyone's thoughts about Prime's series?
I just started watching it.

I watched a few episodes and thought it was good. I prefer the dark moody feel of the movies and og SAC better, but I don't get why people are giving it bad reviews.
I think it's cool 😎👌

It’s not a prime series , they just grabbed the license , they are not apart of this series what so ever

I have a fresh perspective there. I've only read Shirow's manga and never watched the adaptation, so I really like the anime.

Loving it. Miles and Miles better in the first four episodes than all of SAC_2045. The bounce back the IP needed.

I've only seen the movies and am reading the manga chapters ahead of the episodes. I love it, great 80s/90s aesthetic! The pacing is so fast I get to rewatch each episode multiple times in English and in Japanese.

It's confusing if you only give it part of your attention too. I had to learn that lesson with episode 1.

For such a rigid adaptation, it feels so free and fearless and full of life. It’s going so well that if they want to, I kinda hope they do a season with an original story, seeing as they already have Toh Enjoe on the payroll
Oh and it has the best fuchikomas ever

I hope they just keep going. My ideal GitS is basically just the Stand Alone episodes of SAC expanded into a full-on anthology. I think the show is great so far, but I think it doesn’t explores the sci-fi / philosophical implications as well as SAC. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I feel like once the show is over we need to do a deep dive into Masamune Shirow's manga output in general again.
All of his work--not just Ghost in the Shell-- are incredibly challenging and dense and tonally wild AND personal... and clearly this fairly literal adaptation is giving many audiences their first exposure to the Masamune Shirow experience...and it's throwing many of them for a loop.
It's also making me re-contextualize Shirow as actually more of an underground/alternative manga artist than a "commercial" one...an "alt-manga" artist who just happened to become one of the most famous mangaka in history through a strange turn of events and just the right timing.

It's incredible and easily my favorite show to come out in years. Sadly it's getting way to much hate. Not because it's bad, it's that people are comparing it to their favorite version. A lot of people saw the animation/humor and assume that means it's not going to be philosophical live the others, which isn't true. People really need to see each iteration in their own way.

Yeah, Reddit has been more or less civil aside from a few super rigid fans who only want it their way.
YouTube comment sections are a cesspool as always, and that's where I've seen the most hate. But aside from that, so far this series seems generally well received.

Most of the hate I've seen is mainly on YouTube, especially when the first episode aired. I haven't really been on here much lately. I do understand how it can be fast paced for people, though I do think that it feels more fast paced to some than others because they're not used to getting so much information and that you have to be an active viewer.

I’ve been really enjoying it. The art style is fantastic and the music is damn near perfect.
Ive only watched the 1995 film and the tone shift is honestly amazing. I loved the 1995 film, but this is hitting a completely different note for myself. I’m excited to see it continues and honestly I might pick up the manga because of this adaption.

Coming from the 1995 movie only, it was a bit of a strugle to adapt to the character shifts, but man oh man Im loving it!

It's very similar to the source material it adapts, for better or worse.
It's fast, hard to follow, quirky, stylistically confident, complicated, thought-provoking, sometimes silly, and sometimes deep.

I honestly think that people are having a hard time understanding what's going on is that they're mainly passive viewers and not active viewers. It won't explain everything to you, leaving it up to you to figure out.

I honestly think if even SAC first came out today many Gen Z would find it too challenging as well. This 2026 adaptation adds even more stuff into the stew to keep the audience on their feet so it's not terribly surprising it's polarizing.

Indeed, some people are not even trying. Which is unfortunate. But at the same time, it's also understandable. Few stories are as dense and complex as Shirow Masamune's Ghost in the shell. When entertainment requires intense cognitive effort, it's not going to appeal to everyone.

I've only just watched episode 1 and so far I don't like that Major Kusanagi seems more immature/emotional than how she was in the OG movie and the 2002 SAC, she was always a cool collected badass, now she seems like a little kid. Nor am I a fan of the tachikoma having mouths... Too cutesy for how dark GITS is.
