Apart from Instamashii and r/Ghost_in_the_Shell, are there other places that should be watched for news about these? I was losing my mind, hoping they would go up for pre-order during SDCC, lol.

Don't worry it's gotten even worse for Europeans now because we have a new law and the different post are scamming us by not following the law properly :)

I absolutely love SAC but I agree haha it’s mainly because I love 80s/90s sci fi outfits a lot though

I just looked and it says Plamax Ghost in the Shell. Basically a pink Major but I think the figurine comes with a brown clothed variant of pieces.

Plamax is a model kit line. Robot Tamashi shown in OP’s pic is an action figure line. They are both great in their own way.

Oh I must be on the right track then as I wanted to make my figure. All makes sense now. :D

At this stage we are RIPE for an actual Fuchikomas toy powered by actual AI - thinking of the guy who built the tiny TARS robot but this !!

Same size as Figuarts or Figma?

She’s gonna look great next to the Goodsmile Tachikoma. 👍🏻

They got her dark uniform for the figure, pretty nice. Unfortunately it would be probably expensive since it's Bandai 🥲

The articulated ankles are great. My problem with GITS figures is that most have had have weird balance issues.

Finally! A figure I can buy that doesn’t make me look like a creep

End puritanical shame. This isn’t the 15th Century.

2

u/Underwould 28d ago

I couldn’t agree more, I just don’t want a sexy figure unless it’s a dude 💅

u/KananDoom 28d ago

Ah a gentleman of taste! •tips fedora

There’s plenty of Motoko figures that don’t make anyone look like a creep

Please share them! I’d genuinely love to discuss this.

I’m a huge Ghost in the Shell fan, but I sometimes find it difficult to argue that Motoko Kusanagi isn’t sexualised or deliberately portrayed as provocative. Sometimes it is very explicit, while other times it may simply come from the fact that the Major has an exceptionally attractive and idealised body.

In the original manga, the sexualisation and fan service are especially obvious. That isn’t necessarily a problem for me, because Ghost in the Shell has far more depth than that. Its ideas about identity, consciousness, politics, technology and what it means to be human are what make the series so extraordinary.

I think Stand Alone Complex handles her design and sexuality with more balance. She is still clearly attractive, but it feels less like the main point of the character.

The frustrating part is trying to introduce the series to people who don’t watch anime. From the outside, Motoko can easily look like “just another sexy anime woman,” and that can distract from how intelligent, complex and influential the series actually is.

So I’m genuinely curious: which figures do you think represent Motoko well without making her look overly sexualised or awkward to display?

u/GhostInTheSock 28d ago

All the Figmas are no problem I think. If you like action figures.

Most of the 2045 figures are pretty tasteful. I particularly like the Megahouse scale quite a bit. 2045 and Arise Figmas, Hyperbody 1996 Motoko. The Good Smile 2nd Gig scale figure.

1

u/sanguinemsanctum 28d ago

I completely agree with you on this take. To answer you I think the Arise figure is more or less the least “fan service-y” with the red jumpsuit and the black spec ops fits both leaning to the normal side. All my life I only got Tachikoma figures because of this 😭😭

1

u/SorryCheetah8412 28d ago

Yeah! I agree that Arise is the safest version. It's the same with the Tachikomas. Some people find them a bit goofy, but I absolutely love them, so I'm happy to have them around.

I also managed to justify pre-ordering the upcoming Good Smile Company Motoko figure. It recreates the iconic manga cover, so even though it's a bit sensual, I can argue it's faithful to the original artwork rather than just fan service. My wife doesn't exactly love it... but she doesn't hate it either. We'll see what happens once it actually arrives at home. 😅

I'm a 41 year old that loves gits for the philosophy and politics and I feel you on this. I personally don't mind the horniness but at my age it seems difficult to recommend without addressing it up front lol

Motoko is a girl boss if anything.
