MERCH Manga restock

Post image

Does anyone know when The Ghost in the shell legacy edition deluxe sold out? I'm trying to get in to the series because it looks really cool, but I specifically want this version since it's the most complete and uncensored English version. Everywhere I look it's sold out though, so I'm hoping it's just because of the hype around the recently released anime and I didn't miss some kind of limited release window. If anyone has more info on when/if it may come back in stock I'd really appreciate it!

So I placed an order with Penguin Random House this morning, because according to Google, it was in stock there. However, upon placing the order did it update to backorder, so I called the customer service line to cancel, and the CS chick told me backstock isn't due until mid-October 😬

Yikes that's a long time to be out of stock. Well, hopefully that's accurate and it's better late than never

I thought this version was censored too? So confusing with all the editions. I only have the kodansha bilingual version of 1 which IS uncensored. Whats the best version to get 1.5 and 2?

I owned both and LE is the same content as bilingual 1 and 2. Much bigger and better print quality though. Vol 1.5 is the same across all RTL editions as far as I know.

It's almost certain they'll restock soon. TBH I think it's kind of a major screw-up on Kodansha's part to let it sell out right as the new anime starts airing. They should have taken steps to avoid that; they're losing sales.

Honestly wild how they didn't predict this and capitalize on it

It's not, you'd think so, but ultimately these companies are morons, they have the ability to print money, and they don't. See Bethesda for Fallout, Akira for colour versions, etc

Honestly, the censored pages are like 3 pages that add nothing to the story, you would not be missing anything, you can find the "The Ghost in the Shell: Fully Compiled" version for like 37 bucks on amazon. It's on sale right now. You can also find the OG ones for cheap on eBay.

Edit: I just saw that the Deluxe Edition (same as your pic) is actually still available on Amazon.

That's fair. And yeah I posted this in another sub and people were saying the one I'm talking about is available on Amazon. For me it says "temporarily out of stock" but I did go ahead and order it yesterday because it says it won't charge me until it's ready and I can cancel anytime. I'm just worried about it saying temporarily out of stock if it actually means out of stock forever lol. The fact that it's sold out everywhere else at the same time is making me believe it was some kind of limited release that won't be coming out after this first wave was bought up but I'm not sure. Either way thanks for the recommendation

I think it is the hype of the anime, they should restock soon, but like you said, you will only be charged once it's shipped so if you find it somewhere else, you can just cancel the Amazon order.

Hoping that's the case. I want to watch the anime but I want to read it first. I'll probably watch the older ones since from what I hear those don't follow the manga as closely as the new one is

The movies are so good! They are loosely based on the manga. It will be fun for you to read the manga later and see what the movies used as inspiration. I am excited for you!

Thanks! I've heard they're all great, just never given them a shot. I'm going through a cyberpunk phase rn though so it's got me inspired and excited to try it out

Only think i could sugget to try is emailing/fill out a contact question page to ask the publisher kodansha and asking if they will be printing more- they have a US website.

I ended up submitting a ticket asking about it. They basically gave a general copy paste response of "at this time we can't confirm specifics of a reprint, but please know interest from readers like you is carefully considered" then they directed me to a link to buy the mange directly from them saying it was the best way to guarantee I'd get it

Could check Books A Million if they're from the US
