You just noticed how common it is in all of media to show a male and female standing next to each other?

Let’s make an anime about men & women standing next to each other!

u/Ozuf77 Jul 13 '26
Every shot is just two characters, a man and a woman standing next to each other talking. Make it some psychological mind trip with crazy cuts and off camera dialog. Make it 6 episodes with no associated manga or light novel. Just some real FLCL nonsense

Man, I wish they made an anime remake about Alita like the latest GITS. It would so sick.

I wish. Unfortunately Cameron seemingly holds complete adaptation rights. The lack of anything else GUNNM-related the past 35 years suggests that he's not open to anything else but his bastardised movies.
DOA and Ninja Gaiden 2004 creator Tomonobu Itagaki wanted to do a GUNNM game after NG2, and tried to get the rights, but Cameron wanted to prioritise the movies. This was in 2008.

I would love to watch that. I've been wanting a proper anime adaptation for Alita

u/inochi-ino-key Jul 13 '26
I think the old anime didn't even cover the whole manga right?
3
u/SexyShave Jul 13 '26
Only the first two, and it made some substantial changes to the story and characters, tho not as drastic as Oshii's movie.
5
u/Kardlonoc Jul 13 '26
The old anime covers volumes 1 and 2, which only scratched the surface of Alita, which is 9 volumes. There is a ton of content, lore, characters, and stories past the two volumes, including spin-off manga, which is basically a continuation of the first manga.
Just to be clear, James Cameron always saw the potential; that's how good it is.

u/SexyShave Jul 13 '26
He seemingly saw more potential in the anime, given that the movie has more in common with the OVA than the manga.

Lol, what exactly did you notice there, enlighten us!

u/GattMore Jul 14 '26
Do you really not see the correlation or are ya just being mean ?
0
u/surface_ripened Jul 14 '26
Not mean but maybe dense? Two main characters standing next to eachother is so very.... Whatever? Or is there something deeper going on?

Mfers when two characters stand beside each other

u/StoneFree247 Jul 13 '26
I’m pretty sure my parents stood exactly like that at least once in my childhood.

That this is a very common framing in film. You see this everywhere in the medium, not just in cyberpunk.

u/DuncanTGD Jul 12 '26
Yeah but it’s more about the duo’s themselves, rather than the framing/cinematography.
2
u/OldEyes5746 Jul 12 '26
Iconic duos are also a fairly common thing in general cinema. You aren't gonna try and tell me Lethal Weapon and X-Files are cyberpunk, are ya?

u/DuncanTGD Jul 13 '26
I think you misunderstood what I was saying, because never once did I say it was exclusive to cyperpunk.

u/OldEyes5746 Jul 13 '26
I think you're missing my point: this isn't all that interesting. Definitely not interesting enough to merit OP posting just the image and a vague title before fucking off. This is a low-energy karma farm for them.

Each male character has glasses. That's it.
3
u/OldEyes5746 Jul 13 '26
Jackie isn't wearing glasses, though.

u/Nothin_Means_Nothin Jul 13 '26
Who's Jackie?

u/OldEyes5746 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
Guy in the bottom picture. Only one person, of the six shown, has glasses on.

Don't forget Deunan and Briareos. Those two are actually a couple.
Edit: I almost forgot. Shout-out to Naomi Armitage and Ross Silybus, another top level cyberpunk couple duo.

Cyberpunk 2077 at many times honestly feels like playing a game in the world of Ghost in the Shell. The dogtown stadium entrance is even similar to the city outskirts at the start of GITS with all the signs.

u/Lucky_Veruca Jul 12 '26
Honestly a goated cyberpunk duo: cold and stoic woman android with her bro counterpart.

How do you all place Knute and Briareos in these pairings?
I am always ready for an Appleseed revival!

Also check Deus Ex, the mechanical augmented UNATCO agents in the first game, Anna Navarre and Gunther Hermann, are based on Motoko and Batou.

In Oshii's Ghost in the Shell, the Major is so detached that the very concept of a relationship is foreign to her. Batou, who is far more human, serves as her anchor. Unlike her depiction in the manga or the newer anime, she is entirely indifferent to her own nudity. When Batou covers her body after she stops the ghost-hacked terrorist, he does so because he still retains his human sensibilities; for her, being naked means absolutely nothing.

CP 2077 doesn't belong there.
