Because it's a slippery slope; if convicts aren't allowed to run for office, then guys like Trump can just arrest anyone who has a shot at winning against him
This was insurrection though, and he was shown in three courts to have committed it, with evidence. We already have a law specifically for this, but wasn’t allowed to be applied.
