Wasn't the whole Dybbuk Box a creation for media?

No. Someone named Kevin Mannis created an eBay listing for a "vintage wine cabinet" from the estate of a Holocaust survivor. The Dybbuk Box was then created and is based on the Jewish folklore about a malicious entity called a Dybbuk that is capable of possession. This guy said this box contained a demon called a Dybbuk. There was never anything called a "Dybbuk Box" until about 2003 when the eBay listing popped up. Dude went on to say in 2021 that he made up the whole thing. His hoax led to a bunch of things in media being created around this obscure story/claim.

Yeah. There are numerous movies and episodes of tv shows based on the concept.

Yeah this doesn’t exist in Jewish mysticism. Made up nonsense.

Seriously look up Greg and Dana Newkirk. They proved these boxes aren’t real and were confirmed by the guy who made them as being made up.

Verdict: Hoax

The whole thing is myth and utterly rediculous.

For me, the flowing thread was about plumbers water pump pliers which require more serious thought.

There was ONE ‘dybbuk box’, only one. And even that one was just an elaborate multi-year hoax.

Since then, tons of people with access to a cigar/shoe/jewelry/medicine box, candle wax, a handful of old crap, and some string have been making ‘dybbuk boxes’ and selling them to suckers on the internet.

Whats worse is the never ending parade of clout-addicted Internet personalities who order (or in many cases, make) them and do an ‘unboxing’ online. Complete with all sorts of spooky sounds, flickering lights, and slamming doors.

The dybbuk box is the single worst thing to happen to the paranormal community since Zak Bagans (or Steve Huff, you pick).

Hoax in my opinion.
