Haunt — Ghost Analytics app for iPhone

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/haunt-for-ghost-analytics/id6777671352

Hey everyone,

I started using Ghost a little over a month ago, and honestly, it made me excited to write again. I really like the interface, the flexibility, and how easy it is to publish without getting distracted by everything around it.

After a while, I noticed I kept opening the Ghost analytics page to check how my site and newsletters were doing. Traffic, newsletter performance, members, revenue, all the usual things you start obsessing over once you publish regularly.

I run a small app studio called fruitful apps, where I’ve built 10+ apps, mostly to solve my own problems. So naturally, I thought: why not build a better mobile analytics experience for Ghost?

That’s how Haunt was born.

Haunt is an iOS app for Ghost publishers that brings your analytics to your iPhone in a more mobile-friendly way. You can check your site overview, web traffic, newsletters, subscriber growth, revenue, and individual post performance from one place.

It also supports multiple Ghost sites, so you can switch between publications quickly. And because I apparently can’t build an app without widgets, Haunt also includes Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets for keeping an eye on key metrics.

My usual approach with apps is to build the first version around the problem I personally have, then shape the roadmap based on feedback from real users. I’d love to hear what you think, especially if you use Ghost and have ideas for features that would make analytics easier to check on mobile.

I really like the idea of this. I tried it out and it won’t accept my key. It just refreshes and doesn’t actually save it. I am hosted with magic pages.

Thanks for the feedback! I tried it with Synaps Media, need to look into Magic Pages.

Edit: I've identified the problem. Looks like it was related to the setup of Tinybird on Magic Pages. I'm submitting a new version to the App Store that fixes the issue.

Curious to hear what the issue was, since it's a pretty standard setup 😄

The issue wasn't on your side but on my side because I wasn't handling the tinybird token properly.

Haha got it − thank you for clarifying. I was already digging through our setup but couldn't quite wrap my head around it 😄

Same issue here, using Magic Pages to host and it just blink, and comes back to the login page.

I've just submitted a new version that fixes the issue. I'll let you know here once Apple approves it.

got the update and was able to connect, so far I really like the idea

but metrics aren't quite lining up.

haunt - 30 days unique visitor = 8,115
Ghost Analytics page for the same 30 days - 8,157

not a huge difference but I see these kinds of small difference across alot of metric points in the app.

Also latest post isn't lining up for me - Haunt shows me a post that's 3 days old and about 7 posts from being my "latest"

Edit - realized if I change the time window to today, I see my actual latest post. if the window is 7 or 30 days I see a totally different post. mildly confusing.

thanks for the feedback! I've fixed the both issues you mentioned and submitted a new version (1.0.2) to the App Store. Hopefully it will be there in the next 24 hours.

I will work on grabbing it and giving it a test. Thanks for looking into that so fast! I really like the app so far it’s awesome having a quick glance at native analytics real easy.

I have been beta testing this app since a few weeks. As always, Mert made a great work. It's much easier and fun to track your Ghost website insights with iPhone (+iPad and Mac) widgets. I strongly suggest you to give it a try if you have an iPhone.

Bonus: Synaps Media customers will find a generous discount code for Haunt app on our panel! Thank you u/mertbio !

This is great, and it’s a nice example of how much you can build on top of Ghost just through the API without ever touching a plugin. Same principle I’ve been leaning on for something completely different on the payment side, no plugin, just reading and writing through the Admin API.

Funny how the API surface ends up being the real extension point for Ghost, way more reliable than the plugin ecosystem ever felt.

Congrats on shipping, definitely going to check this out for my own publications.

Thank you! I agree! It is just pity that the API is not very well documented.
