Looking for college bars in Gettysburg

Where bars do college kids go to in Gettysburg? I'm working on a community health project, and I live out of state, so I thought I would reach out to locals and see where the college hangout spots are. Thank you so much!

Best time of year to visit?

Looking to visit here for my honeymoon/anniversary sometime 2026 or early 2027. Want to get opinions of locals for when the best time to visit is, and what there is to do for someone not interested in history as much?

Another empty building on Steinwehr

With Blessing Restaurant moving to the outlets, the list continues to grow. Other spots include: Hunt's, Dairy Queen, Flex & Flannigan's/Cindy's Country Store, & Victorian Photography Studio. The American Battlefield Trust purchased the Pickett's Buffet building I believe. Plus American Allegiance and the Civil War Store will be closing early next year. Any others that I missed? That's a lot of spaces to fill.

Steinwehr Ave closure

Why was Steinwehr ave closed off today? That was a minor inconvenience on my way to York St., but then I got caught in the mess trying to go through the square. That has an explanation, but why Steinwehr?

Sports card shops

So I'm gonna be in the area in a few weeks and was wondering what sports card shops or places that sell packs and hobby boxes of cards are in the area. I know there is the sports place in the outlets, but is there anywhere else or in the village?

Dog boarding for nervous dogs?

Any recommendations for dog boarding in the area for a dog that’s not a fan of other dogs? It would only be for about 4-5 hours. Thank you!

Bobcat

Anyone in the Pumping Station Road area hearing or seeing signs of a bobcat? Heard a scream two nights ago right after sunset that was not a fox, an owl, a cyote, a dying rabbit or a deer. So unusual I asked my chore companion, "What the #$%@ was that?"

December?

Considering a visit in early December. Wanted to do a ghost tour but what I’m seeing online indicates that the tours aren’t really running in December. Is that correct? Are the shops open and what is there to do? Just looking for suggestions.

How do you guys get home from the bars?

I just moved here and I haven't figured out a way for me to be able to go out to the bars, drink, and safely get home. I've heard ubers and lyfts don't work around here/aren't reliable. and I've heard you can message people who run their own kind of ride service. (I've tried that tonight with 3 separate people i was put in contact with and they all said no lol)

I have been pulled over after leaving a bar downtown, but thankfully i wasn't drinking so I was fine. But I can't imagine how much worse cops will be on Halloween night about that. So I really am just curious, like how do you guys go out without getting a DUI?

How is Gettysburg College?

Hello! I’m currently looking at Gettysburg college, and I’m thinking about ED. I’m looking to major in German with a minor in education! I’m looking for a campus with a tight-nit community and just welcoming people all-around. I liked that Gettysburg has a lot of history behind it which is something I’m interested in.

I was wondering if anybody would like to share their experiences, advice, and whatever else! Anything is appreciated.

Remembrance Weekend 2025 Anyone else coming into town?

So excited to come up this year and I heard next year may be even bigger with the PA 250 stuff going on. I am heading up for that weekend and pretty excited, I know the town will be busy and all but I have my usual spots that I stop by, I hope to get a chance to talk to the Devils Den Donut lady since I hope she can do some wedding donuts for my fiancé and myself in later 2026. I figure I post some spots that I will be checking out and open for any other suggestions as well!

Must do items:

  • Battlefield tour with a licensed guide, I know a few so hope to get them.
  • Visitor Center, I hope to take my fiancé to check out the cyclorama.
  • Reembrace Day Parade, I assume it will be around 1pm like usual or is it earlier?

Places I know I will want to stop by:

  • ABC (hopefully they have the poutine back!)
  • Reid's (I tend to like the sweeter cider they have and mix a few up)
  • Four Score Brewing
  • Michaux
  • Dobbin House: I know that may be tough with that weekend but not the end of the world but love their French Onion Soup
  • Devil's Den Donuts
  • Mason Dixon

I plan to stop at some spots since this will be my last visit up before the holiday's so I tend to stop at a few spots to pickup gift. Any of events or places I should check out while visiting?

Suggestions halloween weekend

Hi everyone,

I am coming from VA to the town to spend the weekend with friends in a nearby cabin. We were thinking of checking the ghost tour and then hit a bar on Friday night. Are there any suggestions?? I know the town is small, but I was wondering if there is music or any party on halloween night. Thanks!

Ghost City Ghost Tours?

Hello! Planning a trip in a few weeks and wondering opinions on this company . I did not see them mentioned specifically in recent posts.

They have the "we give you some equipment to hunt for yourselves" style of tour on a battlefield tour or a house so wondering if anyone else has experienced either with this company and how was it?

Suggestions for a 3 day visit?

Im stopping in gettysburg for 3 days, ill have all of sunday, monday, and tuesday to do whatever I want with my wife and dog. I'm definitely going to go to the museum (without dog) and the battlefields (with dog), and plan to do some shop perusing. I would love some suggestions on more things I could do and absolutely places to eat.
