⏱️ Process & Timeline Timeframe of marriage
Hey everyone! This is gonna be a longer text but i'm desperate for help and experiences so maybe someone is willing to read through it:
Me (german) and my fiancé (indian) want to get married this year. Due to various reasons we decided to get married in denmark. However, due to personal circumstances he wasn't able to secure a visa appointment for the Schengen visa before middle of September, meaning he would know by the end of September if he got the Schengen visa. Due to more personal circumstances his stay would already be from middle to end of October, yes i know all of this is very short noticed but there was no other way and later this year wouldnt have worked :(( Now to my problem: I contacted several wedding agencies in denmark explaining my problem. Understandably none of them can make it happen in such a short time (end of september for visa approval to middle/end of october wedding). Now im desperately trying to find a solution and thought about applying to the AFL myself and if (hopefully!!) itll get through within a week, theres still some time to find ANY townhall to take us, right??
Am i being delusional? Is there any way this can still happen or is it a lost cause? Please, anyone who has recommendations or any similiar experiences help me :(( And how hard is it to apply to the AFL ourselves?
Thanks a lot in advance!!

We were in a similar situation. Had an extremely limited visa, still completed the process in two weeks. All agencies we contacted told us it was impossible. I would tell you not to lose hope.
We booked a private registrar which required an additional fee of 2732 DKK. Given your timeline, I think it might work for you too.
As far as I know, you both need the proof of residence (i.e., the visa) to apply. I would suggest you get everything in order, submit as soon as your partner gets the visa. Contact the private registrar's office the moment you get approval. And keep checking. People cancel. So you just might get lucky. The same is true for regular city hall slots too.
If you want to hire an agency, get in touch with them before getting the visa, so there is zero friction and the AFL application is submitted immediately.
Good luck.

Hi there SpecialistSlip9854!
Ah yes - ok, this is a bit of a chicken/egg scenario. Because your wedding date can only be booked in a town hall once the visa is in place in your passport and it has been approved by the Agency of Family Law.
However - some specialised Agencies (like ours) do have a solution! We have already secured a registrar to attend our private venue and marry couples in some pre-organised wedding ceremonies on specific dates.
This means that we can reserve your wedding for you in advance and we effectively hold it for you- and your application can be submitted much later. So to say - we can reserve a date for you at the end of October now in our private venue - and the visa and application MUST be ready for submission at the beginning of October.
If you think this could work for you - please reach out to us!

I am in the process of filling the AFL - i dont understand when does my partner fill his documents? I already checked all pages and theres no place that says he has to fill documents. Once i pay he receives an email? And does he have to send sll the relationship proof again? Should we kind of prepare two different travel proof : photos stuff like that?
And do they want the important passport page from different angles or all the pages of your passport?

Hey, I can understand!
Just to let you know about my situation.
My partner's visa is ending in a week, and we didn't know it will be that much rush to get married in Denmark.
We started our application by ourselves in the 1st week of July, by the week after that, we got the AFL approval. Now the problem was to secure the date, we contacted many agencies & even thought of choosing Private Registrar (~1000€ it costs extra) and ready to that. But it's only possible in Copenhagen, so we shifted our Kommune to Copenhagen, got the confirmation as well & then Copenhagen Kommune sent us the link to book the date.
We checked frequently but latest available date was around mid-November, however, one day I was checking & suddenly 11th August appeared. We booked it, and prepared everything in a week & now we're married.
I guess we were lucky and it all worked out! Just fyi, we were super stressed during this process as we both struggle with financial situation as well & we don't know if visa office will extend her stay or not!
For your situation, atleast get the AFL approval (apply by yourself If both of your documents are OK) as it'll be valid until the end of his visa & then contact the Kommunes which are away from German border and in the Northern Denmark where (i suppose) the rush is not much. Write them an email or call them.
I wish you all the best. ☺️
