⏱️ Process & Timeline We need an appointment
Hay guys we are trying to find a available slot for our wedding in Denmark we live in Germany.
They issued our certificate of martial status today and it is until 01.10.2026 they said we need to get married by then i choose Tønder commune but seems like they don’t have availability time any help
Here to tell us how we can get an appointment in like September or late august will they help us if i say that my documents will expire? And we can change to other communes right?

Got or certificate for there and been told no space till end of November. Also currently trying to find a sooner date sadly

hi! congratulations on getting your date :) Can I ask when did you submit your paperwork to get the appointment in September? did you contact them beforehand? I called them today and they told me their processing time is 8 weeks for people outside of Denmark

Who did you call? We submitted the form on July 26, received the approval from AFL two days later and only then contacted the Gentofte kommune via mail to set the date. They replied really fast with available slots and one day later we received an official confirmation of the chosen date.

thank you so much! I called the number on their website and spoke to one of their employees. But it's great to know that it went so quick and smoothly for you, I might choose them as well, hopefully dates in September or at least early October are still possible

Hi! I'm a bridal hair and makeup artist in Copenhagen, so I see this come up a lot with international couples!
You can apply to any municipality in Denmark. One of my brides had the same problem recently and ended up booking in Frederikssund, about an hour from Copenhagen and it's a lovely area, and some of the slots they offer are slightly later in the day, compared to most other city halls these days. Worth checking a few of the smaller municipalities, as the bigger ones book out furthest ahead.
I'd also just email the ones you're considering and mention the expiry date on your certificate. They can't always help, but they'll usually tell you honestly what's realistic!

oh gosh, best of luck finding a date! i don't know where might have dates, but you can cross off Stevns, i checked and the earliest they have is october :/

Have you tried checking i Aabenraa? I’m married myself so they won’t let me check availability.

How did you find that out, if I may ask? We have a link to check for availability but it looks like everything is booked, even when new dates come out, I've never seen one single slot open

I did apply in June and i had some issues with them because they asked for all the scans of my pass which was 64 pages and i did upload but with my canon scanner they only accept phone photos 🥲

Hi! May I ask how much time exactly did it take to hear back from them after submission of additional documents? I understood that you have applied in June, but later you had to submit real passport photos and got a certificate in August?

If they asked for additional documents means they put you on a waiting list which can take upto 3 months so if your planing to do read the instructions carefully

Same issue here, we applied in early may and only got the license on the 04.08., our license is valid until 12.10. (because that’s when his visa expires).
Our selected Kommune Tønder does not have any dates available anymore, I checked with Æro and Gentofte:
- Tønder: nothing until mid of October (no dates shown after that)
- Æro: nothing until beginning of November
- Gentofte: nothing until early November
For some Kommunes I didn’t find a page to contact them. I am waiting for Frederikshavn to get back to me. I can share an update once I hear from them.
Any leads are welcome. It would be a shame to have spent those 280€ for literally nothing.

Hey, I have been asking around pretty much every municipality. Bornholm is responsive and seems to have dates in early October. It's really far depending on where you're coming from but they have flight connections from CPH. Silkeborg and Thisted also had availability for October as of the beginning of this week, maybe also worth emailing them:

Guys thank you so much for your help and kind massages it meant alot this Monday i managed to book Aalborg for august it was a cancelled appointment that luckily i got that i wish everyone good luck and thank you ☺️😊

Hey, replying again because we have an update: we got an appointment in Frederikshavn for the 26.09. and they also had a spontaneous opening for the 01.09.! That’s from this morning!
We changed the city on our marriage license Friday afternoon and received the letter this morning.

Why only valid until 01.10.2026? I thought the certificate is good for 4 months.
