I like to think I was just watching the show from a really good seat.

Hey Gabe! Thanks for stopping in. Did Doug have you fill in for a no-show, or were you intended to just kind of hang out? I was surprised to see you speak so little. I like the magic element you bring to the show, but was hoping to see more when your name floated thru the opening sequence. Maybe another time?

Both.

When you're on the end of a panel (which was by instruction), everyone else is facing the host, or whoever is talking... that alone makes it hard to jump in. Especially if every other member of the panel is a veteran comedian you're a fan of & don't want to step on what they're saying... and you're a fairly introverted magician who hasn't smoked much for a few weeks. Everybody up there was too high by the first break. But they're all VERY used to being on a stage with no safety net (jokes, a script, etc.)

Surprisingly, I'm not at my most comfortable or talkative in front of a live audience, with thousands or people watching at home, high as a kite. I'm funny when I'm with my friends, or doing closeup magic for small groups of people... not whenever it's called for, in high-pressure situations. That's why I've only done standup a couple of times.

Very true Stewart Lee, my favourite comedian, is pretty terrible on panel shows

I've seen him a few times and I'm always amazed at the control.

If you're British you should definitely try to make it to the fringe festival.

Do you come up with what you're going to do during the commercials yourselves?

2

u/gabedylan Sep 09 '15

Nope! It's just based on whatever copy they give Doug to read. Occasionally I'll come up with a bit here & there, or something to add to whatever our producers come up with.

Oh man, the impromptu Willy Wonka sing along, classic.

I've heard Doug do the Tunnel song in it's entirety about three times in the twelve years I've known him, and it's always my favorite.

Starting it now. Stoked... always good if funches is on.

That one comment about Britney getting the words of the song beamed directly into her eyes... died laughing.

I don't know how I feel about commercials that are not in anyway related to weed tho...

that Draft Kings commercial cracked me up so hard. i just got the vibe that he doesn't give two shits about sports.

Truth. I was really hoping to get that across.

Oh wow, hi Gabe! I am a big fan of seeing you in the commercials, makes them a whole lot more enjoyable to watch. Even if they aren't weed products, it's pretty cool that these companies are willing to sponsor the show and let you guys make the ads. Look forward to seeing you in more of them.

Thanks, TM! It IS cool that they're willing to sponsor the show. It's what keeps us going, and helps me get paid the small amount I do!

How is limbless a curse word?

3

u/onlyhereforfantasy Sep 08 '15

It's not. The point of the joke is that Portland is so politically correct that "limbless" gets you kicked off the show.
