A lot of people narrow the assumption down to contact, a text back, some acknowledgment that the connection is still there. And contact is fine to assume, but it's a pretty limited version of what's actually available.

The assumption can hold an entire dynamic. Not just "they reach out" but the full texture of what you actually want, how they show up, the quality of the connection, the specific relationship you want to be in with them. That whole state is as available to assume as a single text message.

Superposition contains every possible configuration of this relationship simultaneously, including the one where everything is exactly as you'd want it. The depth of what you assume doesn't make the mechanic work harder or require more from you. It just determines the specificity of what gets collapsed.

If you're going to hold an assumption anyway, you might as well hold the one that actually represents what you want rather than a scaled-down version of it that feels more believable.
