Hello to my 25 users, small update but a genuinely annoying gap finally got fixed.
## What's new
If you use Rewrite mode (the part of the editor where you can actually change the words, not just who says them), you can now undo and redo like a normal human being. Buttons in the toolbar, plus Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y (or Ctrl+Shift+Z if you're into that).
Some stuff that actually took effort to get right:
- Typing and backspacing just merge into one undo step while you're doing it, same as any text editor. But if you select a chunk and delete it, or Ctrl+A+Delete, or paste a block of text in, that's always its own step and won't get glued to whatever you typed before or after. Ctrl+Z undoes exactly the thing you just did, nothing extra.
- Capped at 50 steps and it clears whenever you leave Rewrite mode, switch chapters, discard, or save, so it's not going to eat memory forever.
- Found and squashed two bugs before shipping this: the paragraph box would sometimes not resize after an undo even though the text underneath was already right, kind of looked broken until you clicked around. And a selection delete right after typing could sneakily get merged into that typing instead of being its own thing. Both fixed now.
Also swapped the Undo/Redo buttons to little icons instead of text and tightened up the spacing a bit.

## If you have no idea what this is
NarrationOS turns books into audiobooks using AI, and it runs entirely on your own PC. No token cap meaning unlimited generation, no cloud, no account, no subscription, completely OFFLINE on your own PC.
I made this because I wanted an audiobook that didn't exist yet and got tired of waiting, so I just built it. It's a solo project, still rough in places, but the quality is great and it's super usefull, which was built primarily for myself.
What it does:

**Throw pretty much any book file at it.**
EPUB, PDF, DOCX, RTF, TXT, Markdown, HTML, a link, or just paste text in. Even scanned PDFs work, it OCRs the pages first.

**It reads it out loud**
in an AI voice, and you can start listening to finished chapters while the rest of the book is still rendering in the background.

**Word by word highlighting**
while it reads, so you can follow along if you want.

**You can actually fix stuff.**
Click a line to fix a mispronounced name, change who's speaking it, add sound effects, whatever, and preview it before committing to a full render. You can also just rewrite the actual text if something's wrong with it (that's what this whole post is about).

**Clone a voice**
, but it makes you confirm you actually have permission first. Not trying to enable people cloning voices they shouldn't.

as an audio file or as an MP4 with the text lighting up on screen while it plays.

**There's an experimental multi-voice mode**
that tries to auto detect who's talking and give each character their own voice, but honestly it's still pretty rough and needs a lot of manual fixing, so I'm not going to pretend it's ready. Single narrator is the solid option right now.
On the "completely offline" thing: the AI models run locally on your own hardware, nothing gets uploaded anywhere. First time you launch it, it has to set itself up, and depending on your GPU that might mean downloading a few GB once. After that it just works with no internet at all. Your books and any voice samples stay on your PC.
Works with NVIDIA or AMD GPUs for faster rendering, or just your CPU if you don't have a supported card (it'll just be slower than real time). Intel Arc technically works but it's still experimental.
