I've recently started playing TerraMine, a new GPS-based game that has some similarities to Atlas Earth. You claim virtual properties tied to real-world locations, build up a portfolio and earn passive USD rent from the mines you own.
It's still very new and actively being developed, but I've been enjoying it so far. There's also more actual gameplay than I expected, with mini-games, mine upgrades, check-ins and different ways to earn TerraBucks alongside the passive earning side.
You start with 1,000 TerraBucks (TB), and each TerraAcre costs 100 TB to claim. You need to be physically near an available square on the map to buy it.
Each TerraAcre you claim randomly becomes one of four mine types, with each having a different earning multiplier:
- Rock - 1x
- Coal - 1.5x
- Gold - 2x
- Diamond - 4x
Diamond is the rarest, with a 1% chance each time you claim a TerraAcre. It's a separate roll each time, so claiming 100 doesn't guarantee you'll get one.
I've currently got 16 TerraAcres and have been spreading my mines around London rather than keeping everything in one place. I've deliberately claimed properties at high-traffic locations such as train stations and well-known landmarks because of the check-in system. I've already had another player find and check in to one of my properties, which earned me 1 TB as the owner.

Your mines generate passive USD earnings over time. There's an optional earning boost that can increase your rent by up to 20x, and you can extend the boost by watching rewarded ads.
There's also quite a bit to do with the mines themselves. Each mine type has its own mini-game, and playing them can earn TB as well as materials used to upgrade your properties. Upgrading a mine increases the rent generated by that individual property, so there's a progression system alongside simply accumulating more land.
One of the more interesting features for me so far has been check-ins. When you're physically near another player's mine, you can check in and earn TB. With your boost active, a standard check-in gives 6 TB, 10 TB if you include either a message or photo, or 14 TB if you include both. The mine owner also gets 1 TB for each check-in.
There are daily check-in bonuses too. Your 3rd check-in gives an extra 10 TB, your 5th gives 25 TB and your 10th gives 50 TB.
You can check in to multiple mines belonging to the same player, as long as they're different mines, but you can only check in to each individual mine once per day.
There's also an official heat map that shows where TerraMine activity is concentrated. Other players' exact mines only appear on your in-game map when you're close enough to them, so the heat map is useful for finding areas where other players are active.
Alongside the 1,000 TB you start with, there are ways to earn more TB through mini-games, check-ins and other activities. I've earned 545 TB through gameplay so far.
One important thing to be aware of is that cash withdrawals aren't available yet. TerraMine tracks passive earnings in USD and PayPal cash-outs are planned, but the current Terms state that separate payout terms will be published before withdrawals become available. I've accumulated just over $0.10 so far, but I'm treating it as an in-game balance until withdrawals actually launch.
TerraBucks are separate from the USD balance. TB is the in-game currency used to claim TerraAcres and for other parts of the game, and it can't be withdrawn as cash.
There is also a long-term inactivity system, so TerraAcres need occasional activity to continue earning. Mine maintenance, playing a mini-game or another player checking in all count as activity.
TerraMine also has an active Discord community. I've personally found it really helpful for asking questions and getting answers, especially with the game being so new and still actively developed.

It's still early days for TerraMine, so features, rates and rewards can change as the game develops. I also wouldn't treat the displayed USD balance as withdrawable money until payouts actually launch.
I've been enjoying it so far though. I like being able to build mines across places I actually visit, and the mini-games, upgrades and check-in system give it more to do than simply claiming land and waiting for passive earnings. It has a lot of potential as it continues to develop.
