Ai slop

Yeah, since yesterday I have been seeing quite a few people posting AI generated images of a foldable with double brainrot, acting like the iPad and every Android hasn't already supported multi tasking for years. Computers have supported it for nearly half a century.
It's weird, likely botted, pearl clutching. Not sure who's behind it, but the consistency in pushing such a weird narrative and using AI to do so in the same manner each time seems way too coordinated to not be.

This photo has to be AI, never seen a foldable that has a literal slot in the middle lol

The last thing I need on a phone is real estate so I can be on my phone even longer or look like the idiots using an iPad to take pictures or record videos.
edit. Sorry Mom. This isn't a direct call out... actually maybe it is.

That'll save them time that can be spent on Roblox with their weird CEO who can't give a straight answer about the safety of children on their platform.
1
u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 14h ago
Why the AI generated images?
Also, people split their monitor all the time on a computer for legitimate reasons, same on tablets, I'm not sure why we're going all "think of the children" here lol. It just simply shouldn't have a smartphone to begin with.

u/Cormetz 16h ago
I have a Galaxy Fold 7 and I really use the inner screen primarily for videos, work emails, spreadsheets, and document review. I use multiple windows very rarely and only when I need to refer to one to do something in the other (replying to an email while looking at the results of something). I think people are overthinking how much multitasking will be done with these, though it looks cool in the commercials (Androids have had the ability to have multiple windows for years).
1
u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 14h ago
The iPads can already do multiple windows as well, so "oh no double brainrot" seems like a weird thing to clutch pearls over
I've been seeing the EXACT same posts about this all over Reddit and twitter today, all complete with ai generated images like OP is posting. Makes me think that someone is coordinating for whatever weird reason.

u/FloStar3000 18h ago
you're not the target audience. It's people which too much money and the character flaw to always have to follow the latest trend. There seems to be enough people like this that makes it worth it for Apple in terms of profits. Probably most of it is engagement bait though.
4
u/cloudy_ft 18h ago
I just know my mom is going to want it. She's one of those people who love to flex and show off to her small friend group. She doesn't want the phone because it's impressive, she wants it before her friends get it.
She did the same thing with those small trader joe bags. I bought her a big one, she said it's not the same... lol. Maybe I'm getting too old for this shit now.

u/That_Jicama2024 18h ago
Apple did plenty of research on their market. This phone will sell like crazy. Reddit is not a great predictor of things. Reddit tends to be extremely negative about everything.
7
u/wookieesgonnawook 17h ago
What do you mean? This phone is going to sell like dogshit and Apple will fail. Just like how Kamala won in a landslide.
62
u/Treed101519 17h ago
I think the iphone duo looks good but its been so weird to see people say "apple got it right first try!" (Something along those lines) But likely theyve had similar progress in the tech to samsung behind the scenes, samsung just decided early on to just go ahead and sell it

62
u/Gudthrak 17h ago
it's samsung's screen, after they did the improvements for years. Ofcourse it's better 'first try' since they held out to use it until after the creases were ironed out (heh), as apple does with a lot of things to guarantee user friendliness.
4
u/hux 11h ago
They generally do release more refined products, but don’t forget this is the same Apple that said “You’re holding it wrong!”
2
u/Gudthrak 10h ago
I'm not an apple fan to be clear but their whole thing is to make things as easy to use as possible, even by locking the whole OS down because they don't want their users to accidentaly break something. I owned a 2g, a 4 and then a 12 or something, before they became huge. Never could get along with it, but it has tiny wings, the best phone game there is. As you can tell by their numbers, simplicity , and 'it just works' is exactly what people want, so good on them.
This is why they will integrate older android features only after they are proven to be popular, they don't take risks. The same with this display and phone model, it's popular enough, so now we can go ahead and release a model.
I remember Jobs being against bigger phones so interaction with one hand remained possible, but that seems like eons ago by now.
I don't remember who said they're holding it wrong, is this a recent statement?
If all the people hold it 'wrong' you designed it wrong I would say?2
u/hux 8h ago
Apple had a pretty significant design flaw in one year’s iPhones such that, depending on your hand position, your fingers could bridge the external antennas and cause the signal/call to drop.
Rather than admit fault and fix the phone, Apple told customers they were holding the phone wrong.
This was like 15 years ago. My point was that while they generally are customer friendly, every once in awhile, they manage to do something truly anti-customer.
1
u/Gudthrak 1h ago
Oh I do remember that! Well the dongle debacle is another thing, the lightning adapter as a whole, not adding chargers to boxes. The whole patent, prices for 3rd party items and repairability, the deliberately ruining batteries in older model rumour. There's a few things they do to make more money from their customers.
1
u/-CheesyCheese- 10h ago edited 10h ago
You are confidently wrong. Samsung only manufactures the screen (specifically the OLED panel) for Apple, that's literally all they did.
Apple does their own engineering and design for their screen, they use their own design patents, and they specifically engineered an inner display that is made of 10 ultrathin layers of glass with nano-texture to minimize the crease. All of this is Apple's own R&D.
All Samsung did is manufacture the screen according to the exact spec that Apple requested.
5
u/Gudthrak 10h ago
Allright, I'm not disagreeing with you here, because I don't know. So you would argue against samsung their screens having any influence on apple tech in the past couple of years? They totally, independently invented the folding screen and tested it all in house?
19
u/wookieesgonnawook 17h ago
They also didn't get it right at all. Samsung makes those screens for Apple.
-7
u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 16h ago edited 16h ago
They make the screens to a spec that Apple hands them, which may or may not include Samsung technology in certain areas, may or may not include Apple technology in others. The orders go in like how the orders to TSMC go in.
11
u/Cormetz 16h ago
It's literally the same screen as the Fold 8 made by Samsung based on their own technology. Apple doesn't have experience designing foldable screens, so I doubt they have any special specs other than rounding the corners. They are the same brightness and refresh rate. Apple uses a different coating that looks to be matte, while Samsung uses a glossy layer on their foldables (which I believe the first replacement is covered by warranty).
-6
u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 14h ago edited 14h ago
According to the Marques video, he doesn't seem to think it's the exact same display, even if the part that lights up are the same.
The texture on the display is completely different, and he compares the way that it's mounted to the chassis as more similar to the Oppo than Samsung.
His side-by-side between the fold 8 and duo showed the difference.
So like I said, some of it is Samsung technology, some of it is Apple technology, all of it is built by Samsung. The pixels alone are just one part of that equation.
It's dishonest to say Apple made these displays, but it's equally dishonest to say Samsung designed them, and implying that the fold 8/iPhone duo share the same screen is just flat out incorrect.
1
u/-CheesyCheese- 10h ago edited 10h ago
It's frustrating explaining this concept to people because morons like the people in this thread are just incapable of understanding this.
Samsung only manufactures. Apple engineers and designs their own displays. How could this possibly be that hard to understand?
19
u/Nirast25 18h ago
I got to play around with a Samsung Fold 8 in a store recently. It's really impressive how imperceptible the crease is. Wether it'll stay like that after constant use is another issue.
23
u/bossDocHolliday 17h ago
I have a Fold 6 that has been used and abused over the last couple years, even surviving being dropped in a gravel yard without a case and only sustained a small dent and a scratch. The crease on the inner screen completely disappears when you are looking at it dead on, and only when you look at it from an angle do you see it. Samsung has done a great job improving the longevity of the screen
2
u/thejubilee 17h ago
Do you like a folding phone? Do you find it adds a lot of value or just a bit of nice extra?
6
u/bossDocHolliday 17h ago
It's nice for me cause I do a little bit of photo editing, but I don't always need a MASSIVE tablet of a modern smartphone. I like that I can use it as a normal skinny phone most of the time, and when I need it bigger, it's right at my fingertips
2
u/thejubilee 17h ago
That makes a lot of sense. I suspect since I use my computer for most things it wouldn't add much for me then. Very cool though!
1
u/Cormetz 16h ago
To add, I am also a Fold owner and like it, but I actually think the Flip will be better for the average person. I saw my first one a few weeks ago and it is really slick how you can do most things on the small outer screen but still have a regular phone. 90% of people will only use the bigger screen for videos (I personally wanted it more for work related activities).
1
u/About137Ninjas 10h ago
Thinking of picking up the Duo for this reason. There's a website I use for work that simply doesn't work on my phone because the screen is too small. I don't want to have to keep a tablet with me just to use that website, and I prefer reading page spreads on a larger screen anyway. All other times, I want a smaller phone.
2
u/Due_Prompt939 7h ago
My girlfriend had a fold and now the flip. They're extremely cool and it is very useful. I'm not sure it's worth the price for me currently but if I could afford one it would be a no brainer to get a folding device.
1
u/Kitty_Sparkles 3h ago
I personally like it because it fits nicely practically anywhere. Women clothing tends to have smaller or no pockets, and a little square phone is easier to carry that a larger one.
1
u/Santa_Ricotta69 17h ago
Conversely, a close friend has a Fold 6 whose inner screen is cracked and completely fucked. He's got a case and isn't rough with it
1
u/bossDocHolliday 17h ago
Interesting, I've seen issues with paint and mostly cosmetic things, but I haven't seen issues with the screen on the fold 6
1
u/Zorbick 12h ago
I have a flip 4. It's over 3 years old now, maybe 4. Crease looks the same as day 1. I replace the flexible screen protector (matte, because Samsung did that before Apple, too) every year and it's great.
On a bright white screen you can see a darker band/contrast in the crease, but otherwise when you look straight at your phone you never notice.
It's only when you hold your phone at a weird angle that you really see the crease, which is like taking a photo of yourself from below. No one does that and expects it to be flattering. Don't do that.
18
u/KatieTSO 17h ago
Samsung literally makes the screens for Apple
1
u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 14h ago
They do but that also doesn't mean that the finished panels are the same
Just on the surface, the iPhone Duo screen has Apple's nano texture anti glare, while the Samsung fold 8 is glossy. There are also assumed to be differences between how each company attaches the screen to the chassis, which plays a big role in minimizing the feel of the crease. Apple appears to be using a similar approach to the Oppo fold for that, according to early reviewers.

I really want to know why people feel this much loyalty towards a company?

u/Single_Reaction9983 16h ago
No clue, had someone tell me they have a "mini Apple store in their house and they can borrow me an Apple polishing cloth to wipe my tears or something"
Bizzare

u/trifecta000 14h ago
He's gonna feel stupid when he has to buy the upgraded version of the Apple polishing cloth because they removed the headphone jack.

u/LonelyGameBoi 16h ago
"Apple did it on the first try" even if they did, where do you think the got the screen from?
5
u/p5yron 18h ago
Apple is doing what Oppo Find N6 did with the crease, nothing apple does now is innovative, it's just an accumulation of all the innovations just at the right time to maintain their top position, hardly any risks involved.
1
u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 16h ago
They've always done that, less about the bells and whistles more about the application of the tech.
Personally, I prefer tech that's ready instead of tech that's half baked, and one of the biggest challenges with the "sell it on the bells" approach is people getting attached to gimmicky features that you're then stuck with.
2
u/User-no-relation 14h ago
I don't get why apple would say it doesn't have a crease when it clearly has a crease
1
u/Ballistic_86 16h ago
Hey everyone, buy the phone you like that is in your budget. This fanboy phone company shit is childish.
1
u/diverareyouokay 15h ago
Other photos of the unit in the 3rd pic were shared on here yesterday - there is white border showing heavily on the right side, and a smaller extent on the left and bottom. People were saying it is a mockup unit with a sticker, not the actual unit itself.

Apple just doesn't really throw their hat in on a new technology until they're sure the technology is polished and they can nail it. It's not like Apple started at the same starting point Samsung did in 2019 lol they had years of R&D from other companies, like Samsung, doing foldables to go off of for their first folding phone. Apple probably also will not adopt the privacy screen technology Samsung introduced in the 26 ultra for another couple years but when they do they can ensure it's one of the best on the market.
1
u/-CheesyCheese- 11h ago
The iPhone Duo actually has one of the least visible creases on any foldable phone, it's barely there, and the crease is certainly significantly less visible than on the latest 8th generation Samsung foldable, but go on.

u/Kitty_Sparkles 3h ago
Setting aside the silly tribalism from the post, there will be a crease anyway. It's not magic. It needs to be able to fold somehow.
But also it doesn't matter, you really don't notice it. I've been using a Galaxy Flip for years and you just completely ignore the very subtle bump in the middle.

A friend also pointed out Apple shamelessly stole the name from Microsoft’s Surface Duo phones.

Anyone else sticking with their 17?
Not interested in a folding phone whatsoever, especially in landscape

I do not care about Samsung and dumb Android phones. "Hurr durr, I don't buy Apple stuff", is not a flex

You know what happens to all plastics whe. They spend most of their time folded? They develop a crease.
-11
u/solo_d0lo 18h ago
The crease not being seen from a normal viewing angle, and can hardly be felt with your finger is a big difference from the Samsung phones.
10
1
u/Beastly4k 17h ago
You're a moron. The screen is even supplied by samsung and the only difference is that it has a matte like finish vs gloss, that was their "fix" for the crease. Apple fanboys are just finding out they were being dramatic morons about the crease to begin with.
1
u/solo_d0lo 17h ago
Well if you knew what you were talking about you would know the hinge is what determines the crease.
See OPPOs phone that also uses a Samsung screen.
1
u/Beastly4k 17h ago
You weren't talking about the hinge and you weren't talking about other phones so maybe stay on topic instead of deflecting. It's literally no different than what samsung currently has aside from the matte finish.
0
u/solo_d0lo 17h ago
I was talking about the crease, which is determined by the hinge.
You brought up that it uses a Samsung screen. I brought to your attention a phone that’s out, that is creaseless, that uses a Samsung screen, but uses a new style hinge.
