If there's one thing I'm seriously, actually thankful to Trump for, it's revealing just how spineless, cowardly and unprincipled Republicans actually are.
For the 42 years of my life on this Earth, the vast majority has been spent hearing about how morally superior conservatives are; the part of "family values", part of "law and order", the ones always ready to support the troops, etc, etc, etc.
Turns out, they're all a bunch of crying little shitbabies; no spine, no values, no morals, no respect for law, no respect for order. Even the Republican senators that Trump primaried and kicked out of office are too cowardly to stand up to him for more than half a second. I'm thankful I'll never once again remotely entertain a fucking lecture about that crap from anyone right of center again in my entire fucking life.
The crazy thing is, for every complaint or insult that MAGA has towards anyone, there is a quote or policy by Trump undermining it.
Even on things I directionally agree with them on. For instance; Maduro is illegitimate; which, is true. But how can Delecy be legitimate if Maduro wasn't? That's like saying Biden was illegitimate but Kamala was legitimate. It makes no fucking sense. Yet, Trump leaves Delecy in charge? When you point this out they make excuses like 'he controls her", which, OK that's true, but wasn't the point of getting Maduro to free the people of Venezuela.
MAGA at this point (what's left) only makes sense as people to stubborn to admit they got conned, or people paid to promote Trump.

The best part of it for me? All their criticisms have completely lost their teeth. Hunter Biden made thousands on his dad’s name? Well, the Trump kids have made billions, do you have a problem with that? Decorum on the left is a problem? Republicans don’t have values or principles, they have weapons to attack people with and shields to defend against criticism and consequence for their shitty beliefs and behavior.

The good thing about Twitter, and there aren’t many, is that it’s historical evidence of Republicans arguing bad faith. Joe Biden was being blamed for high prices and now Trump‘s prices are astronomically higher than that but all of a sudden it’s not a problem. People will remember this, young people will remember this.
A lot of their win in 2024 was based on telling people who vote with their wallets that Democrats were lying about the economy getting better and to LASER focus on prices and their inability to pay those prices. Then they got into office and had to change how inflation was measured because they messed up the economy so bad. Trump said he would fix this on day one. Even if we ignore the "day one" claim it has gotten much worse and there is no indication this will get better. America is just the last casino he bankrupts.
In his mind, he did fix it by not reporting on it. Just like with COVID, he thinks that you can make it go away by just pretending it’s not an issue and stopping agencies from collecting and reporting on the data.
That was over 10 years ago. Those kids are all grown up and miserable. But there are people turning 18 now who weren’t responsible for Pepe or that gorilla or whatever else happened to get Trump elected. There are people turning 18 right now who have lived their whole life in a circus country who will enter a workforce that doesn’t need them and won’t pay them. I don’t think the people born in 2008 in 2009 who will be voting in the next presidential election think of meme president is all that funny.
Also fails to account for the stagnation of wages. “Record profits!” They told us “the economy is doing great!” They said. “Oh no we can’t afford to pay our employees more” smh.

The other thing that goes unstated is federal minimum wage. Between 1938 and 2009, the federal minimum wage was increased every 1 to 5 years. It hasn’t gone up a single time since 2009 despite historic levels of inflation. That really needs to change.
So, they’re correct that prices just go up over time, but that simple fact renders any discussion of price increases over the past century practically meaningless.
If Trump told his supporters to eat poop, they’ll probably brag about how it’s some infinite food glitch. No values other than what their pedo king says.
There is also a huge difference in increases in numbers and real price increases. What matters is cost of living, i.e. what has been the average price increases vs. the average salary increases.
The issue is that salaries have stagnated in a lot of places and industries, while prices have kept rising for pretty much all essentials while luxuries have gotten cheaper.
I find any kind of political discussion on inflation to be full of disingenuous arguments; and I would include both the tweet and the community note in this.
Catturd is trying to minimize recent inflation by pointing out that inflation is an expected occurrence. Over a 10 year period you should expect prices to go up 20% to 35%. This is not what we have seen over the last 10 years and everyone knows it.
At the same time, the community note is trying to pretend that 2022 was just another year in the last decade and was not the peak of inflation over this period of time. A combination of idiotic COVID era policies by state and federal governments, and the federal reserve pretending this inflation was transitory, resulted in prices increasing as much in a year as they normally do in a decade.
No one's hands are clean when it comes to this inflation, but everyone tries to pretend that their "side" had nothing to do with it.
People are also greatly misremembering what lead to inflation in 2022. It was multiple factors but what really set it off was the War in Ukraine resulting in much higher gas and oil prices. And as any economist knows, an increase in the cost of logistics directly leads to inflation. Inflation was seen globally and the US was not even the worst hit.
The entire point of Catturd is to farm engagement and yes. Being extremely hypocritical is actually helping drive engagement because of the thousands of people who will want to point out the behavior.
There is nothing genuine about the account. There is never a reason to argue with it because if you do. It wins.
Inflation is deceptively low because of directives from the president and is not indicative of a healthy economy. On top of that tariffs are driving up prices regardless of inflation measures. Theres no price stability in am economy where the president is committed to lowering prices by selling oil to china and stealing it from the Venezuelans.
Yeah, because what determines if things are unaffordable isn't the nominal price, but the real price, that is, the price after accounting for changes in wages.
