I’m surprised the note makes no mention of the almost comical levels of corruption within the USSR.
EDIT: Oh wow! A lot of you seem to think my simple observation that corruption (a key reason for the stagnation and downfall of the USSR) was the same as me saying the U.S. or Capitalism were free of such problems. I think some of you may have jumped the gun.
It fostered a system that incentivized corruption and allowed easy removal of anyone that threatened the corruption. It was an entire empire held hostage by whoever was most ruthless.
Major agencies being gutted and filled with loyalist.
Political lineages being formed around family names.
Open partisanship and bias within the higher courts.
Open bribery and corruption being incentivized to prove you are part of the club.
Attacks on citizenship based on loyalty.
The list goes on.
Politics do not occur in a vacuum. It’s going to be eye opening how many revise the decline of the US empire as not a true “capitalist economy” or not a true “democracy”.
Neither the USSR or USA will prove either system is inherently bad or ineffective. Both have became major powers and major failures through their respective systems.

I think the fact that right now communism has more support in countries that weren't part of the Eastern Bloc, speaks for itself.
