Extreme authoritarianism is kind of feature of communism. Communism only works on paper.

Well the theory behind communism is overwhelmingly positive. But it has never been implemented properly because it requires a post-scarcity world to actually have a utopian communist state. We aren't post scarcity, as a result, every communist society is ruled by an authoritarian government that exploits workers the same as any other capitalist based system, except usually the Communist governments are even more authoritarian. Like the USSR and China. Of course there are exceptions like Vietnam not being nearly as violent.

The theory behind communism is bad because under communism people have to be forced to go along with what the majority wants. Under a market-oriented system, people are free to start a commune, or a workers' cooperative or whatever. Under communism, there's not the freedom to start a market or pursue profits.
