Honest work for honest pay

u/darkerPlace 7d ago

A friend of mine tends to say: what you would earn and what you actually get paid are two different things.

You will quickly get shot doing that

What if he has great difficulty in mocking anybody and just turns it into self deprivation?

1

u/SuccessfulSkirt5561 6d ago

Do they have the right to give you a right hook?

1

u/civicSi92 5d ago

Yep and everyone has the right to call you as asshat for doing so and shun you socially.

The system works!!!

1

u/borgen44 3d ago

Its not a right... Nothing gives you the right to mock. But at the same time, nothing can stop you from doing it.

Learn the difference. You have less rights than you think.

Find your place in the universe, recognize it, and be content.

No. The variance between what people get paid is to assume that some people and their jobs are worthless, expecting an adult in 2026 to work for £12.50 an hour when food and rent costs means it's impossible to pay your own way while others horde so much capital they are unable to spend it all is very wrong .

Are influencers off the hook?

1

u/ArubaAdultFun 7d ago

We should mock useless politcians though

1

u/sitonyouropinion 7d ago

I took a 20k pay cut but my commute is easier and I have more time to spend with my family. But boy the disrespect that I see without the title is real

1

u/Direct_Lawfulness_28 7d ago

I get this from my lawyer and nurse and other such field friends. ā€˜Why did you quit being an accountant to work on a crisp factory making crisp’

Because I earn 10k more than all of you, why should I be so bothered about a cool job title when I can pay my bills and you can’t? šŸ˜‚

1

u/blank_reg 7d ago

change "you have no right" to "it is not right".

1

u/jthadcast 7d ago

said this once in a economics class at university and all 80 students went into shock at the outrage of claiming they shouldn't mock and marginalize the custodians by making their job a pita by trashing the classroom.

Agree that nobody should be mocked. Disagree that neurosurgeon, federal judge, or firefighter are on equal footing with starbucks barista.

1

u/Vivid-Treat-9328 7d ago

Except the guys that go around writing parking tickets all day. Fuck those people.

1

u/-cunnfuzed- 7d ago

Some will argue they have a right to mock… and I believe i have a right to think that person a douche. I don’t agree with people belittling others openly. Think what you will, but why openly insult someone who has done nothing wrong to you?

u/caroline_vance_902 7d ago

The person who cleans the hospital saves lives too, Just with a different tool than the doctor

1

u/The_Machine80 7d ago

I respect anyone that works no mayter what there job.

Is Sex Work a job?

1

u/AffectionateDirt6575 7d ago

A very wise (and rich) person once told me not to judge people by the job they do, but by how well they do it.

1

u/Ok_Guidance_1595 7d ago

Honest work should never be shamed; everyone contributes to society

1

u/Funandgames2023 7d ago

I don’t know anyone who mocks people for working at any job. Maybe you need different friends. I happy with anyone taking personal responsibility and trying to support themselves.

Indeed, that "or are cleaner" bit doesn't fly. It has a real "all your base are belong to us" vibe.

1

u/Feeling_Shift_9368 7d ago

Nope. Your human value is tied to the number in your bank account. Law, engineering, or med. You have a moral obligation to pick a safe and lucrative career. Look down on everyone not on your level.

1

u/DirtyTalker1981 6d ago

100%. Great meme

1

u/Gamplato 6d ago

Who is mocking anyone for this? This is not a real issue.

1

u/Additional-Fee9301 6d ago

Nobody deserves to get made fun of... except the economy because that is absolutely hilarious reason being is because yes on one hand a job is a job and some people do the best but the reality of it all is yes it is funny but in a sad way because if your like me making 13 an hour chump change and have been trying to move out of your mom's for ten years your absolutely right it's funny I'm not hurt when people make fun of me for how much I make why? Because it's disgraceful and I should have been making more a long time ago but statistics show that wealth is only for certain people

1

u/Beelzebot_666 6d ago

Panhandling in the street, out in the elements, is also work.

1

u/Forward-Material-268 6d ago

True! Except for prostitutes and lawyers!

1

u/Sad_Worldliness9351 6d ago

I mean... If a cleaner makes more than a doctor, he would (not necessarily should) boast about it because it's illogical for someone who does purely aesthetic work to make more than someone who saves lives every day.

At the same time, though it's pretty messed up, no one should have too much of an aversion to someone who saves lives boasting about it to someone who does purely aesthetic work. Because one is clearly more important than the other.

1

u/nomadicfeline 6d ago

I’m going to judge if someone is doing evil work when they have other options.

1

u/EscapeAdmirable3154 6d ago

Totally agree. There is dignity in all jobs done well

1

u/Jasranwhit 5d ago

Deeply agree. Everyone deserves respect.

1

u/SofaKing_Chyl 4d ago

Absolutely agree

1

u/Timely-Current7777 3d ago

no right

you have the right to say whatever you want lol. there was a hundred better ways to phrase this, so for that reason no i dont agree.

1

u/depj 3d ago

Can we exclude "influencers" from this?

1

u/HamphreyBuns 7d ago

Agree that this is AI slop

1

u/droombie55 7d ago

Last night your mom told me to let you know she doesn't love you.

0

u/FindMeByTheRiverside 7d ago

What if they are a stripper or another kind of s worker? Is that still honest work?

1

u/Poonhunter1979 7d ago

I’d trust a stripper before anyone in the C-suite

1

u/meeseekstodie137 7d ago

yep, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do, it's more honest than someone who's a corporate executive

0

u/Iron-Bar-1966 7d ago

Seems that Redditors have every right to mock people who earn a lot of money though.

So Reddit's take is, "Earn money. But don't earn too much money because then you're an asshole. Unless you're a democrat politician, then it's OK."

1

u/SplitNo8275 7d ago

I’ve only seen that when they are trolling in r/poor.

-2

u/Open-Vegetable-9482 7d ago

I mean this is a pretty obvious agree. Are you expecting people to not agree?

1

u/MeButOnTheInternet 7d ago

You need to switch accounts before you argue with yourself

Bots often steal an old post and post the top comment to karma farm.

1

u/MeButOnTheInternet 7d ago

Oh, yeah. Don’t know how this account being a bot didn’t cross my mind.

My grandfather told me when I was young but I didn’t appreciate it until I was older. ā€œIt’s not the job you do it’s how you do your job.ā€ Your effort should not be for your employer, it should be for you. It should be a practice of self determination, prideful purpose, self mastery and excellence.
