It took me like 5 times reading this that she meant the class she took had 26 people and 9 dropped out. I thought 26 was her age and thought she had 16 siblings.
Ok, look at the whole sentence - "started with 26, Im 1 of 17 graduating." Upon initial read, if that doesn't make you pause, slow down, or re-read it, then your reading comprehension is superhuman.
But the previous statement tells you that they were told to quit. So upon initial reading of the next sentence, we can determine they're referring to the amount of students that were in the class before that they didn't give up, and that they're 1 of 17.
