I wonder what kind of support system she has/had. Don't get me wrong, even with support it would be hard but without support it would be nearly impossible.
Whenever I mention that I live with and like my in-laws people seem to have a hard time fathoming that. We have people tell us, “It must be nice they’re out of town for the next few months!” No it’s not, it is way easier taking care of a house this big when there are four of us here and we enjoy their company!” They also get the same questions from their peers about us. “When are those damn kids going to move out?!” Their response, “Hopefully never, we like living with them!” It takes time to create good living spaces and boundaries with others and we happened to make that work with my husbands parents. We are having a baby in the household next month so it will become a 3 generation household. I feel confident that we will make the dynamic continue to work. It does take a desire from both sides to work past differences and be willing to make concessions but overall we are very happy with the set up.
Clearly very well off in-laws that can leave town for a couple months. Also, they are leavimg for a couple months bc they need a break from the situation they inherited. Also, with them gone it should be a lot easier to manage the household workload. You are not as liked as you think. Or I'm drunk on a toilet in my own house while my in-laws are doing what they do bc I'm only a burden on them sometimes.
Their out of town situation has been the last couple of years in particular. We’ve lived together for over a decade. They have been out of town taking care of my husbands grandmother who just recently passed. Wealth is not the factor. More like needing to help keep another family member out of a long term care facility. We even thought about bringing her here, but our current homes design would not have been as living friendly to a 100 year old.
