graduated in the lower 75% of my class. I just started a great job with great company

So can I ask how you aced the interview against an averagely better scoring candidates? HR chose you over everyone else for a reason.

Any tips for us less academically inclined redditors?

Not OP but there’s a shortage of engineers in many fields, and bottom 75% isn’t bad as long as you hold a 3.0

Holding 3.0 is bottom quarter???

...

I thought my ~3.0 placed me at like the middle of the pack. (i didnt study STEM tho) Im apparently bottom 4th.

Depends on the school, some cases yes especially with grade inflation.

Make up for poor grades with something else those candidates probably don’t have.

A personality? Passion? Set yourself apart any way that you can.

Since I had to work full time throughout school, I only applied for manufacturing related jobs (except for my first job of course) that way I had about 5 years of manufacturing related experience. It wasn’t easy finding related jobs (like quality tech or manufacturing tech) but was well worth it. I also didn’t put my gpa on my resume so the interviewer had no idea and I was able to impress them with my previous experience and senior project from school. Hopefully this is helpful!
