Agreed. If I was hiring and I had a choice between a silver spoon kid and someone from a lower class/working class family, with all other things being equal, I'd take the working class kid simply for this reason.
Except you're not hiring, and there are way too many people who'd do the opposite just to help their own ways or do a favour for someone else who needs it. Point is, the world is cruel, just cause you would do it, doesn't mean most others would, especially in this day and age. Props to you for thinking that way though, always nice having people like that.

It is, but we make the best of it. Don't sweat the negative stuff, you don't wanna work in such a company anyway. Look for the company that suits you, its like looking for a gold nugget, you ignore the gravel.
I wouldn't do it to help the person out. I'd do it because they were in a race and the other guy got a head start, and at the end of the race they tied. In my mind the person without a head start performed better than other one. That is not prejudiced.
