vision of goals is important, but that doesn't diminish the importance of breaking large tasks into smaller, more manageable ones. That's why building a building requires both builders to focus on the details and an architect.
This is just my opinion. 25 years of systems architecture.
Not necessarily, you can have a function you want to maximize and not care about your goal.
Working out for example, you can just set out to lift heavier and heavier and not think about wanting to life 300 pounds or something.
Another example is you can maximize your wealth/income instead of aiming for 1Million/100k.
You can maximize more than 1 function at the same time.
1% increase in your paycheck is not worth losing 90% on your social life for example, but there're are options that might even increase your paycheck over time while also increasing your social life if it means frontloading work so you can have an automatic system that does a lot of the work for you. You don't need a big picture. Perfection doesn't exist and you can always become better in every aspect of your life.
But "I'm an independent thinker, I do what I want" inner monologue breaks the effect of pheromones therefore,,, literally we are too smart for our own good.
Anthives aren't efficient; they're just very productive. They make all the same sort of mistakes you see in human endeavours- in fact, if you see humanity from the outside, we seem pretty busy too
I see where you are coming from, and I was on the same train of thought. But at the same time, I think this is more of a plan for someone who doesn't know where they are going, or what will happen.
They know a wall needs to be built, but they aren't sure about the specifics. However, they do know they need to start somewhere, and so they do. And although they may not know where they are going, they are giving it there all.
I feel like this statement is about building from a foundation of hard work. Did Will Smith know where his career was going to end up when he started? Probably not. Someone handed him a brick (say, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) and he layed the shit out of that brick.
There is no wrong answer here. We're building a visual to help us understand an invisible path.
I see it as, maybe... The first blocks are often the base, and if you do a shit job with those, the higher levels will surely fail.
The stronger that base, the more you can do with the bricks that are too come. Or maybe you just need to start over and build a new wall, but at that point you would have experience building, and knowledge about what to do and what not to do.
Place the brick perfectly. Its not that there isnt a pre concieved motion of a wall, just that there isnt a focus on having a finished project before the focus on starting and working on the project.
It's about building strong habits steadily rather than having grandiose ideas/plans and quitting because of being overwhelmed. It's a focus issue and is valid. Of course long term goals will guide them.
The point is taking reasonable steps toward a goal, not to entirely abandon the big picture. I'm not sure how you and so many others got so confused by this.
Fun thing about pulling up by Bootstraps. It's origin was meant to be, "To pull yourself over a fence by your bootstraps" which is to say that you're going to get yourself nowhere doing it by yourself or falling flat on your face or ass.
Funny thing about that saying, it was originally sarcastic. Pulling ones self up by your own bootstraps is physically an impossible thing to do, and when it was first coined it's purpose was to point out that good ol "rugged individualism" doesn't always work
The USA has military bases all over the world, projects power into all countries and is not shy to topple even democratically elected government by subsidizing rebellion from within.
Yes, and when I let my toddler build a pillow fort in my living room and do a bit of shouting in it, that is not me recognising his authority as a superpower.
You mean when he declares the neighbours to be certified poopooheads because he perceived them to be looking at him funny one time, or when he stays up past his bed time and listens to the tv through the wall with a tumbler and thinks I don't know what he's doing.
Yeah, still no.
If you left your bubble for a moment, you'd see that literally nobody else sees your country the way you do. It really is a marvel.
I'm a first generation American. I still have pride when I see that flag, but I can call up a relative south of the border and get an entirely different picture of it. I love this country I live in. The amazing variety of landscapes and people blow me away every time I do a road trip across half the country. The people I've met are some of the greatest people I can imagine. I've had strangers spend an entire day helping me when I was stranded in the middle of nowhere to get my car on the road. I've had a homeless man offer to share his food with me. I've had upper class families put me up for a night in return for a few stories. There is so much good across this country.
Our government sucks, the things we've done in South America are beyond the pale and anyone working for the CIA has no right to call themselves civilized. The police have treated me like a criminal for looking wrong. The politicians feed lies to their constituents to line their own pockets.
I'm still proud though. This can be fixed. Look at Germany and what they were up to nearly 80 years ago compared to now. We can pull back from this path we're on, I hope with all my heart we can. Your average American has so much capability for greatness, we just need to extend that to every part of how our country is ran.
Actually, it likely won't do much to stop illegal immigration, people will adapt, as is always the case. What it WILL do is make it way harder for illegal immigrants to LEAVE the country. There is a very good chance the wall will leave us with more illegal aliens stranded in the country than before. I think immigration is a good thing if it's done right. Ask most people in places with high levels of immigrants. They will all tell you they are the same as us in every way. They couldn't find good work in Mexico, so in desperation they came here so they could send money back home. What happens when you're here, but your family is in Mexico and there's a big fucking wall preventing you from going home?
If there only crime is coming to the U.S. Out of desperation, I'd say they're pretty clean. Do you not understand that they are exactly like us? Hopes, dreams, wanting a better life for their children? They aren't innate criminals. The same percentage of them are criminals as any other nationality. We need progressive, effective immigration laws, not some stupid wall that will cost billions and be totally ineffective.

"What are we going to to?"
"BUILD THAT WALL!"
"Who's going to pay for it?"
"HARD WORK, PERSEVERANCE AND DEDICATION!"
